Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Is the book worth reading? I know it's about Destiny's Edge, so it ties into the Personal Story.

Plus it might satisfy my Zojja curiosity.

It is a lot of back story about how all these major characters in Guild Wars 2 know each other. I enjoyed reading it a lot.
I've heard from people on this forum that they don't think it was a very good book and they enjoyed Ghosts of Ascalon more but they are Game Books so they might not be the best written. I just read them for the stories because when these books come out there wasn't much happening in the GW news and wanted to learn anything new that I can about GW2.

thanks!

another question - does anyone have a picture of an Asura wearing the light Heritage armor? That's the only Hall of Monuments reward that I really want, it looks so classy.

I believe the only Heritage armor that has been shown in game, is the in the brief HoM video that ANet released a couple weeks ago. It shows the heavy Heritage armor on Humans. Don't believe there is any screenshots/videos of the light or medium sets, as they have not been accessible by the community.

So on Arena.net twitter.. They state. "Hi GW players! Staring tomorrow, we'll annouce the Weekend events in GW"

Anyone know or can guess what they mean by this??

stress test over weekend?? not just on thur?

I've heard that it very much sucks in terms of caliber of writing. Was happy to read the Cliff's Notes :P

I think that has to do with GW1. Where they do weekend evets such as extra reputation points in certain areas of the game. I guess to help people with HOM completion.

did you just make this up? Can't find anything on twitter.

edit: Also yes, sounds like GW1 to me, too.

Well, you can at least be satisfied that all the Felicia Day haters will have to avoid playing an Asura because she's one of the main voice actors.

JFC, just when I thought the Asura couldn't get any more unappealing...

I really love their story and animations though. If they were gnomes instead of the love child of these two

I'd be all over them. I made a pretty cool looking male necro Asura during the BW though. Tried to get the name Nightmare Fuel, but it didn't go through.

oh, I thought these were the armor sets

Anyone here have experience with the various recording programs and GW2? I'm talking about programs like FRAPS, Dxtory, Bandicam, and MSI afterburner.

I'm getting an SSD within the next couple of weeks and am looking into trying to record videos of GW2 to my spare HDD. I'm curious if anyone here has used any of the above software when recording to a separate HDD, and what the performance impact was.

I used FRAPS for a long time and recently switched to Bandicam at the beginning of this year. Bandicam is the superior solution. I record to a spare 7200RPM HDD and there is no discernible performance loss. I have recorded videos at 1080P at both 60FPS and 30FPS. Everything that FRAPS can do, Bandicam does it infinitely better and has a much nicer user interface to boot.

The great thing about Bandicam is that it can record and compresses HD video on the fly and in a format that is ready to be uploaded straight into Youtube. File sizes are small and the quality is about as high as you can get for a compressed HD video. Bandicam doesn't impose file size limits either so you can record continuously for hours into a single file.

One of the major annoyances with FRAPS was that it would split your recordings into several large 4GB files that cover about 5 minutes of recording time per each video. You would then have to compress and merge the files together using something like Virtual Dub and it was common to run into audio syncing issues.

To FRAPS' credit, they recently released an update that allows longer recordings into single files but I stopped caring about them the minute I tried Bandicam for the first time.

My only complaint with Bandicam is that it doesn't let you create shortcuts that include simultaneous key presses. For example, you can't set a shortcut with function keys or anything like SHIFT+F10 or CTRL+F10. Everything must be set to a single key. Hopefully they will add support for this in the future.

Attention everyone who thinks it is necessary to copy down sliders to achieve names quickly ; it will be far more efficient to just 'Skip to End' five times to poach the names you want as soon as the servers go live on August 25th, and then delete those names to claim them with your real character designs.

Deleted names have a 24 hour period of reservation for your account, meaning that no one else can get the names you delete within 24 hours of that name you delete.

Now if you're just trying to maximize early playing time on August 25th, then proceed.

Has this been tested? Maybe someone can try during the stress test.

If I buy it off Amazon, is it a preorder or a prepurchase? I'm thinking about switching my order from GMG to get into the stress test.

Those look nice, but i think they are concept art, because the wiki shows this as ingame armor, which looks ugly if you ask me.
Good luck finding any other plate looking armor early in the game if you're a warrior or guardian.

Dye it up and it will look fine. It's heritage because it's supposed to look like this armor.

Anyone have any 1st or 2nd year unded common minis laying around they wish to unload? I will pay.

I'M SOO EXCITED TO TRY THE GAME! :D

Not enough time to try all the classes I want to though :(

I suggest playing the one you want most because 4 hours won't be much time to do much of anything since you have to acclimate yourself to the game as well.

If you're in the US Amazon is your best bet.

Green Man isn't doing the 3 day early/beta thing anymore.

"PURCHASES ON OR AFTER 8TH AUGUST WILL NOT INCLUDE THE 3 DAY EARLY ACCESS OR ACCESS TO BETA WEEKENDS!

ACTIVATION KEYS WILL BE SENT OUT IN TIME FOR THE RELEASE DATE OF 28TH AUGUST 2012!"

...or enter the mist to check out all weapon skills and elites for each class.

There are training dummies around.

Where's that vendor with all the dungeon sets located at? Want to see how they look on my character for myself.

Hope the servers open up an hour earlier again.

Here's a blank one if you guys want to make your own

A quickly thrown together one. Some might be hard to get why; I have my reasons.

did you just insult felicia day

All the cool kids are doing it, didn't you get the memo?

Ah thanks for pointing that out, I'll be avoiding Asura like the plague then. A shame they didn't get a proper voice actress that can actually act and who's voice doesn't grate on the nerves as much :(

Asura are actually meant to be grating, and Zojja particularly so (she's kind of a genius even among Asura, so you can imagine the size of her ego).
The irony, of course, being that due to incompetence on the author's part, what is meant to feel grating is actually more like "whatever", while the "actual heroes" (particularly Rytlock and Logan) are obnoxious and childish as all hell. Honestly, if you want to take any of these characters seriously, avoid the book.

It's absolutely horrible. If I had a time machine, I wouldn't kill Hitler, I'd warn my past self not to read it. Seriously, it's terrible EVEN for game-related fiction (quite a feat!).

Instead, read Ghosts of Ascalon; it's reasonably interesting and well written.

It is a lot of back story about how all these major characters in Guild Wars 2 know each other. I enjoyed reading it a lot.

... we can no longer be friends. :(

I don't think throwing himself up against level 80 PvP dummies that can put him into the ground in seconds flat is a good way to have him learn the game. It's like having someone go up against a Demon's Souls boss right when they open the game and say don't die now.

He can fight the golems, they don't even fight back!

Doesn't really tell you much about a profession when he can just stand there and his enemy does nothing. Yeah he can see what each skill does and how it looks, but going up against mobs that are trying to kill you is a completely different ball game.

There are also the two bonus-point PVP mobs to the east of the map.

I made myself a pact that the first classes I would play would only be the ones who could solo those guys, since they're not really meant to be solo'd.

In addition is a group of other mobs that don't hit as hard - good for testing how to pull and check to see if your build can handle multiple mobs at once.

I read somewhere that Amazon had run out of early access keys, and despite still having that blurb on the page, people were not receiving emails with the key as of last night. Maybe I read that here?

that's what I do when I try a new profession - just enter the Heart of the Mist and play around with all the skills
