Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

GAF, I could really use some help. Charity?

I picked up the first Guild Wars a week or two ago in preparation for the sequel. Mostly to see what the whole thing was about and to get an idea of how the world and combat system changes between games. I also wanted to get a few Hall of Monuments points before launch. Specificaly: I WANT THE CAT. THE MEASLY NINE POINT CAT. Serious business.

Since I bought the game, I've been playing as close to nonstop as I can afford yet I've only just finished the Prophecies campaign and bonus objectives. I also grabbed some of the low hanging fruit (M.O.X., a level 20 ranger pet). I'm sitting on seven HoM points, just two away from that stupid cat!

My problem is that getting another two HoM points looks like it's going to take me until well after the launch of Guild Wars 2! Even if I get another two statues by finishing my newly started Nightfall campaign, it still won't be enough. I worked it out and the absolute fastest way for me to get the last two points is to get upgraded armor for three of my heroes. ...but I'm nearly broke and I don't know any of the Guild Wars gold farming tricks.

So GAF. Would any of you handsome and/or beautiful people be willing to part with a few Eye of the North armor upgrade pieces in return for my undying gratitude? I could also use a few Stolen Sunspear Armors for my new Nightfall heroes.

I honestly don't know if this is a ridiculous request since I'm still not clear about high level gold income. I just know that I won't be able to afford three armor sets anytime soon with my ~2K gold.

If you can get yourself the Charm Animal skill, I can get you 2 easy HoM points in about 30 minutes. The Black Widow spider is worth 2 HoM points (20th level pet statue and the Black Widow statue)

Thats the only client you need.

Also I read something about names being reserved for 24 hours. Does this mean if I make a random character, reserve my name, then I can delete it and have 24 hours to make my final character with that name, or does it mean that after I delete the character I can't remake with the reserved name until 24 hours have expired?

Nobody else can make a character with that name except you, for 24 hours.
 
I'll be waking up at 4am BST on Saturday morning myself >_> My guild is having a pre-launch party in GW1 before hand.

To make sure I get plenty of sleep, going to be in bed early on Friday but still, will be worth it :D Pre-launch party followed by lots of Guild Wars 2 :D

Gonna basically come home from class on Friday and just pass out until about 7PM in order to prepare for the inevitable all nighter.

I already have a common lvl20 pet, unfortunately. But getting a few of those rare pets would be just as good as hero armor! I can't do them myself since I've only finished Prophecies and I have no travel points unlocked in Nightfall or Factions.

You could do it yourself. To get the Black Widow you go to the Underworld. Easily reachable by anyone who's finished any of the campaigns. (Actually, you don't even need to do that)
 
Wait, the Black Widow only seems to spawn after completing certain quests, and only in an area which is not easily accessible, and you have to pay more money if you wipe during the attempt.. I should have known better. Almost all of this HoM stuff is ridiculously time-intensive.

It's about 30 minutes to get the spider. You only do 3 quests. :/

GW2 also has a function that other games don't have, and it's one button language swap (I think it defaults to left-alt when you enable it). All you do is hit that one key anywhere on-the-go and all of the dialog and UI turns to the secondary language you set, then back again when you hit alt. Great for practicing foreign languages.

Middle one is alright, though the skull needs to look a little more integrated into the armor instead of just hanging there. The other two are pretty ugly, though. Especially the one on the right. What the hell is with the shoulder wings?

I think the heavy set looks fine, it's supposed to mimic this set from GW1. Middle looks great, but yeah that Profane one is BUTT UGLY - something tells me that has to do with the fact that they are modeling it on a male norn though, might look better on a smaller frame like, well anything other than Norn :\

If only... But seriouls after a few months we would experience buttons getting stuck, it seems to be an issue with this mouse. For an example in bf2 and mw2 whenever i tried to aim with the right click , it would just go in and out repeatedly making it impossible to aim

I'll try it for sure. I will admit that I'm a little worried about all the "SUPER DIFFICULT AREA" warnings about the Underworld.

I'm thinking that it might just be faster to go through the campaigns after all. I was hopeful that hero armor was easy to come by for people who have been playing for ages but it sounds like a significant expense for anyone.

At least the campaigns will keep gold rolling in so I can think about buying the armor myself!

Here's my Internet speed (I've been suffering with it for five years now).

I don't know what's considered fast Internet anymore but I know mine isn't exactly the best in the world. How fucked am I for WvWvW?

I average 1.07 Mbps (I know, horrible) with a relatively good ping and I run it perfectly. I don't think download speed factors into online play much.

Actually I'm not so sure. But still, geography is going to screw us a bit. We're going to get around 200-400 ping.

Edit: Your local servers should be a somewhat advantage. Gaming doesn't require a ridiculously high DL/UL speed.

Holy crap, not only did I just realize you linked stuff from the "X Days" banners, it turns out that's probably my favorite track as well. Does help that that's what played often while I was venturing out into the human starting zone in BWE1 for the first time.

As a HUGE fan of both Phineas and Ferb and Devil May Cry 3, this was a certainly pleasant surprise.

I don't think I ever bought anything playing through all the campaigns and ended up with about 70k. Probably enough for one armour set :p
