I wonder how much of the population actually plays fractals frequently, like doing one at least once a week. I'd wager it's pretty small. It's true that you can go into fractals at any level but I'd guess that most parties are 5 level 80s, even at levels 1-9. I would also wager that a lot of players haven't reached 80. I remember seeing these numbers for World of Warcraft and being shocked by how few players reached max level.
It's nice to see that there will be a brand new one added along with the old living story dungeons but first I would love to see a reward revamp for fractals. That's a big reason I don't do fractals anymore. One, because I've done every fractal a couple dozen times by now, and two, the rewards aren't worth it to me.
Once you do enough fractals, you will have nearly no use for fractal relics and pristine fractal relics, especially in higher levels where, if you get the right ring, you save 10 pristine fractal relics on the spot. You do have a chance for lodestones and a very remote chance at a fractal weapon but if you want lodestones there are better ways to get them, and fractal weapons are more like winning a lottery than making steady progress towards an item.
Compare this to dungeons, and the fast, popular ones take ~10-30min to complete: tokens are useful for much longer because you can purchase entire sets of armor and weapons, instead of just two ring slots from fractals. And if somehow you gear up every one of your characters via tokens you can still buy rares to salvage. 26s (plus money from the bosses, which fractal bosses do not drop) and 70% of the next level are nothing to scoff at either.
Because cof1 farming exists, from a rewards standopint, everything in the game has to be compared to the opportunity cost of doing cof1 instead. I don't have any particular problem with cof1. Players flock to the most profitable area, and if it wasn't cof1 it would be something else. However, it's up to Arenanet to decrease the gulf in rewards between doing the fastest, most profitable dungeon and doing some other, more difficult dungeon, like TA F/U, Arah 4, or even cof3. It doesn't matter whether it's by making cof1 longer and more difficult or making those other dungeons easier, the disparity in rewards between cof1 and other group PvE activities in the game is not in a healthy place.
I don't do cof1 anymore because I've done it so much already, but it would be nice if the rewards for reward:time ratio in the game would be spread out more evenly. I feel like they are starting to recognize this, since you are now getting ~10s, karma, and a random item for completing a Sanctum Sprint. There were similar rewards for doing Crab Toss as well.
