Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

This article brings up a point I brought up before, that the dynamic events seem to rely on a steady flow of people. I'm a little worried about this, but at the same time I can't see ANet not thinking of this potential problem. It kind of interests me to find out what they do to get people to go back to these areas. Maybe daily and weekly achievements? Not sure, I hope they do it in an interesting way.

Shouldn't be an issue. GW1 always had a good player population spreadout through all the areas.

Anyone know what the population cap is on the servers? They could keep these areas flowing by simply stuffing more people together instead of tons and tons of little servers.

There will always be a point where everyone is hovering around 80 or so.

I think there is some kind of content scaling where the more people in an area the harder the events are.

Except for group events most of them should be soloable.

The UI scale is the same as guild wars 1

On the beta forums they said the next beta event wont be till after pre purchase and this is the only weekend to yest cash shop.

There will be a wipe before release.

If u got into the beta just gone u are not guaranteed entry into the next but u will have a chance like everyone else.

Before full release they want a feature so u can save trait builds n things. Bit like like saving skill builds from first.

The podcast has been recorded. Thanks to everyone who participated today. I'll be editing it and uploading it somewhere sometime soon.

Yeah, this was definitely fun and I can see this being an on-going thing. It just sucks that Max is ill and Jira and BrettWeir couldn't make it. Should be fun for next time.

I kinda felt like the third wheel though, everyone else involved had a chance to play.

I can do that but I might miss it since I'll be off and on

Yeah, and honestly, if people submit their questions, they can be answered in the next podcast as well. We dicussed having people send in questions towards the end.

Can't wait for you guys to hear it.

Well, after watching TB's Thief video, I may say that this will be the first class I play. It looks so intuitive and dynamic.

I played WAR which had a smaller, set-piece event system and after 1 month it was hard to ever complete a low level one. It is a definite concern the other poster brings up.
Well, even without any assistance, Total Biscuit managed to complete a few chaining events on his own (Level 30 or so I think) in his most recent video.

Can you not rebind keys? I haven't seen rebound action bar keys in a video yet and I HATE clicking so that is kind of a big deal to me.

For any skills your rebound the keybind actually didn't show up on the bars. Probably will be fixed eventually.

GW2 reminds me of WAR a lot in the way the area events work. It's kind of a legit concern, imo. I think they need to introduce some kind of scaling for the amount of people in an area. Or pop in AI players to help out.

Probably the hardest class to play in the game. Kind of a blast in PvP if you read the situation you put yourself in right.

From what I saw, it's scaled fine. If anything is a concern it's the respawn timing. Also, I'd say that the Mesmer is the most difficult class to play.

I was speaking in PvP terms, which I noticed in your article you said you hadn't gotten to experience.

I really liked Mesmer for the short time I was able to play one, but as others have mentioned it's the least complete of any class and it showed.

I played a Thief and Necromancer the most. Both classes were pretty fun.

My main gripe is feeling underleveled all the time. Even if you do every single area quest, you can't keep up with the main quest. That's a numbers thing though, and that will probably change thanks to good feedback (I know I left a ton).

I did buy an exp boost on my Necromancer at level 1, and basically bought one every single time it expired, and was able to keep up that way. My necromancer play through was much less stressful thanks to that.

Uhh... edit your post. You broke NDA.

Here's the podcast! Sorry about how horrible my mic quality is. I put some GW2 music in the background to make it more tolerable.

GAF Wars 2 Podcast Episode 1: March Beta Impressions

There's a video version being rendered right now and I'll add the link as soon as it's uploaded to YouTube.

If anyone's wondering how I got to play the game, my friend who was invited was very generous and allowed me to play for a few hours on a couple of his characters. Hope you uh... "enjoy" listening to us talk.

It's okay. My mic quality is not good either. Rofl.

Listening to the podcast now, good work guys :) Grizz, get a new mic! :p Glad the music was added, too many podcasts feel kind of empty if they're done via skype/online without that face to face interaction. It's a little touch, but it definitely adds a lot.

Also it was funny to hear Retro talk with his voice being so different and deeper, lol.

Awesome that you're enjoying it.

This is really the first time I've heard my own voice and I never realized it was quite so deep. In the past I've always had people say I sound like Batman / the Devil in vent, but I always thought they were being funny. I would guess it's even worse when it's late at night and I'm keeping my voice down.

I also noticed that my volume drops quite a bit, I have a shitty old Logitec headset that I will be replacing shortly. The microphone isn't sensitive enough so I think just the natural movement during talking causes it to drop out.

Yeah, I know it's really bad. Gonna get a new one before our next recording session.

Just tell everyone you're reporting for the Weather Channel from the eye of the storm.

good job on the podcast, pretty cool idea. kinda disappointed with the information from the second beta, was expecting more footage but i guess there will be more over the next couple days.

I have antibiotics now, and I'm taking all the meds the doctor gave me for right now to feel better.

Sleeping has been a terrible experience today though.

Great job on the podcast guys, I'm listening right now and Arken is a great substitute host :)

Dude, glad to hear you're doing better. How's it coming along?

Awesome that you're enjoying it.

Yeah, it's a blast, helps that we'll all eventually be playing the game together :p

I'm still using some cheap thing I bought from Wal-mart years ago, lol. Never had any complaints, so it's not bad.

Haha, it's all good man, just nice to put a voice to the name. I had the same issues when I had roommates and used voice chat, it would be annoying to try and just whisper stuff, etc. Not a problem now in my own place.

Abscessed tooth? I literally just got home from the dentist after surgical extraction for this reason. Was on a week of antibiotics leading up to today; in my case the antibiotics killed the pain within 48 hours or so. Which was good because the kind of pain it was generating seemed completely unnatural. I've never felt anything like that in my life.
