People don't get to keep their free gems? Aww...

You might want to edit that post since that's also NDA related. Specifically not even press is supposed to talk about it.

EDIT: I'm not trying to be super anal about NDA btw. I just don't want yall getting in trouble or anything.

EDIT2: Ignore my posts. I don't have sleep so I'm not thinking straight. Anyway, I forget this only applies to testers. Rofl. My bad guys. Sorry.

Abscessed tooth? I literally just got home from the dentist after surgical extraction for this reason. Was on a week of antibiotics leading up to today; in my case the antibiotics killed the pain within 48 hours or so. Which was good because the kind of pain it was generating seemed completely unnatural. I've never felt anything like that in my life.

I was actually at a store the other day and overheard a woman say the same thing. She said the back of her throat swelled up and she had an abscessed tooth back there from what the doctor told her.

Damn guys, this podcast is solid. Good work.

Seems like everyone's enjoying our little conversation/rant/lovefest. We haven't set any kind of schedule for these, but it was discussed that the next likely date would be around the Pre-Purchase event on the 10th, which is actually not that far off.

I was just commenting this morning, March came in like a lion not playing Guild Wars 2 and went out like a lamb still not playing Guild Wars 2. Hopefully April gives us a release date, but I'm not holding my breath.

I proudly take the credit for the music/editing/video stuff. And the absolutely horribly microphone.

Yep, awesome work. I did the little logo on the video though. Leaving my name in caps was an accident. Really.

Very nice job with the editing man. If only we didn't have that NDA looming over us there could be so much more discussion. :(

I'd rather have the NDA keeping the info at a trickle than a balls out media blowout showing me everything I'm not playing immediately. That's why I'm kinda glad I haven't gotten in the Beta; it would just make the waiting feel longer.

I was more specifically talking about discussion amongst us, like finding out who made it in the beta and just chill, talk, and look back on the last event and share our thoughts. Listening to that podcast just multiplied that desire tenfold.

Took me some time to finally get up there, with my dumb 'not staying in the socket' shoulder and all, but with a bunch of help from Retro and a sprinkle of suggestion from Kaotic...the GAFGuild community thread is up. So now we can discuss all the cool guild stuff that we did in here for sometimes multiple pages

Awesome. I mentioned it over there, but it bears repeating; we're not abandoning this thread for general discussion, the community thread (for now) should just be concerned with community-type stuff. Let's try not to have the same conversation going on in two places at once.

I do what i can *pops collar* ;-)

Not sure if anyone noticed but the official UK prices are up for the game on the buy.guildwars2.com website. Previously it only contained the collectors.

Digital: £50, Deluxe: £65, Collectors: £130.

£50. Fuck me that will put a lot of people off the game.

I agree that £50 is above the norm when other retailers are selling it for £30-£35, but with the amount of content and no subscription fee it's kind of hard to dispute that price too. I have a pre-order of the retail version down for £29.99 put i'm gonna have to cancel and but down the extra £20 for the early accsess and beta accsess because i want this game too damn much not to..

Liking the GAFGuild community thread, it's gonna be a lot of fun once things get up and running. :)

Yeah, that's quite a high price (almost $80 for the Digitial, for those in the US). However, that's for the Pre-purchase direct from ANet, as I understand it, and other retailers will sell it closer to the regular price. I'm not sure if ANet is going to work out some kind of pre-purchase deal with them or not, so if getting into the headstart and such is something that interests you, you may just have to bite the bullet.

I haven't heard any explanation why the prices is so high either, maybe there's some kind of legal / trade reason.

i wonder if anet plans to do a joke for April 1st. Time to stay off GAF for that day anyways lol..

In the past, their April Fools jokes were kinda obvious; That's a BIG Chicken.

Holy shit, is that the common European price? In swedish kronors the collectors edition is 400 kronors (which is alot, ~60 USD) more expensive than the American edition. :(

Still shows dollar signs for me. Bet it's going to be a $ = € conversion.

Not sure if I want to go for the deluxe version, or spent that money on gems. All that interests me in the deluxe edition is the summon Mistfire Wolf Elite Skill. Not really worth it. Rather buy a character slot, or bags or something like that.

Deserves to be quoted on a new page :P

I think this might be my first second mmo where I simply don't care about getting to the level cap as fast as possible, but instead spend time exploring and wandering in each new zone. Those environments just look so amazing.

dat ambience.. breathtaking.

Do the world events have timers or reset automatically like they do in RIFT, or do players have to change things?

Players have to intervene or not and things change based on both of these things, whether positive or negative. Events play in a tug of war with branching events from each.

I mentioned it earlier in the thread, the prices have been up for about a week now, but it was drowned out by a sea of people complaining about the buyable ingame money.

Zavvi has it up for £50 as well, the standard edition that is, though it isn't buyable at the moment.

Unless other retailers put it at a better price, if I do buy it, I'll probably try and import an american copy or something. I'm not paying £50. I thought SWTOR was bad at £40, never mind £50!

That brings up the issue that RIFT and WAR had with player populations and being able to do these dynamic events later down the line. Can a player by himself change things in an area to the positive or are they stuck in negative till a group or a bunch of players can fix it up? In RIFT for example an area of the world will be taken over by invasion event and quest giver npcs would be dead and you couldn't do your turn ins or get new quests for a good chunk of time till it reset the area. As the game aged players were not touching the event stuff since it gave them no incentive anymore (they already earned enough or all they wanted from the events) so players who hadn't yet done them got stuck with no groups, and no way to clear areas to get to important npcs. But at least those were on timers that eventually things would go back to normal.

the player can still affect the results of Event 1 , he would have missed Event 1 but he can still be part of Event 2 (which is the result of Event 1) so on and so forth...

The events scale depending on how many people participate. If you watch TB's video on events, you can see that he's able to do multiple parts of an event chain completely on his own, then as more people join up with him, it turns into a larger battle.

For those of you who haven't checked it out, here's my article on the beta at RPGSite

Nice article. But holy shit @ the comment by Aleph the Hater at the end. Huge facepalm moment when I read what he wrote. Especially the part where ANet somehow isn't "doing their own thing" and is instead focusing on trying to bring down WoW.

Probably doesn't realize that there are undoubtedly ex-Blizzard staff at ArenaNet, let alone Mike O'Brien being the same guy who created the MPQ archive packing process that has been used in every Blizzard game since forever.

watched part of the tb thief footage yesterday. i think i'm going to like the combat based on that... it definitely seems like you can very viably dodge and mitigate incoming damage via movement while staying engaged.

with no cooldowns visible for non-equipped weapons, i'll be counting constantly:) need to find some grand custom soundtrack stuff with a beat on-par with the initiative regen to facilitate.

what *doesn't* look fun is the non-combat stuff: clicking on a stick, run to fire, click on fire to partially fill a bar? um... hopefully there's usually a bit more danger going on to make this a wee bit compelling, because that seemed mind-numbing (and i'm so never returning to an event that involves crisscrossing an area clicking on one thing and then another without something else going on).

those rabbits are going to be taking a *lot* of abuse.

I think that's the good thing about the variety of tasks to do in the events or the hearts. Instead of having 10 quests you have to do, this way you have an area that needs help that has 5 different tasks you could do to help, or you could just go to another area. As for me I like the small tedious stuff like that sometimes, if for no other reason than it adds to the feeling that the world is alive. If every event or chain required me to fight every single time I would probably still have fun, but the immersion for me would loosen. In that event specifically he could have done the wood gathering, or killing the nests, or using the bomb kits like he was to blow up the stumps. Or he could have just moved on, but he wanted to follow that event chain all the way through, he didn't even have to stay in the area as he was about 5 levels over the area.(actually more than that I think it was a 23 lvl area and he was scaled to 25 but his character was level 33)

I was happy to see he was having fun and was excited doing an event that was well below his level and that he was scaled down even further than he could have been. This was a bit of a concern for me when I first heard there was no real end game. But if the game can be that fun and challenging(he was near death a few times) when you follow one event chain in a lower level, I will be extremely happy with this game.

Was listening to the GAF podcast and heard a few of you talk about how Necro isn't a fun class? Can anyone expand on that? I was hoping to go Necro as my main...

i'm encouraged that the environmental weapons appear useful. they could make some fights lots more interesting if there are some unique environmental-weapon-only skills.

and i don't know how to do it, but it seems like some more "gamey" mechanics for some of the "make the world feel alive" stuff would be cool... i don't know how to do this, but building fires, or even collecting crafting stuff could be made more fun somehow, surely.

and just to remain crotchety, i've decided i want to play a hammer-thief:)
