Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

I know it's beta and all, but my biggest gripe to come out of this latest beta round is probably the uninteresting armor sets. Everyone seems to be donning the same ugly flowing robes, and the terrible dye jobs don't do much to help the matter. I was actually surprised to see a thief rolling around in what appeared to be a dressing gown...I don't want my sneaky thief wearing long flowing robes! Tighten that shit up.

It can also be tough to distinguish between classes at a glance, especially in PVP when all your enemies are wearing the same color gear. I guess I'm used to WoW and other MMOs that distinguish classes so clearly by gear.

FUCK.

I was going to pick Sylvari Female already... and was happy that there wouldn't be that many. Now everyone is going to jump on the bandwagon.

Like there weren't going to be a ton already. :lol

But yeah, consider me sold on the Sylvari if they got Hale. Shieeeet.

There's a class icon on the players bar when you click on them that tells you what they are. I see your point though.

@Keasar

Daaaaaaaw.

Why do all the press people seem to be Charr anyway. Enough of the evil race! =(
I strongly disagree with the statement of Charr being naturally evil.

My evidence: Adorable Charr cub.

Charr ain't evil, they're just misunderstood. They were essentially driven out of their lands by humans and have had to deal with centuries of internal strife and discord. I'm probably not going to main a charr, but I'm giving serious through to going Charr Engineer as an alt.

If you're looking at PVP videos, they put everyone in a sort of generic uniform that looks rather robe-ish, and they are dyed bright red or blue. The actual in-game armor looks leaps and bounds better.

So, anybody else plan to try playing the game with a gamepad?

The best part is that Ascalon in Prophecies was actually the Charr capital back in the day, humans fucked them up and took it, and now the new Charr Capital is on the site of Rin, which you lose to the Charr in a story mission in GW.

Ah ok, makes sense. Do you know if the generic PVP garb will be in the final game as well? Do you not carry over your PVE equipment into PVP?

In structured pvp everyone is put in the same gear and same weapons so it leaves it.up to skill and play and not gear. WvW it will transfer over that im aware.

Edit:excuse horrible spelling and grammar. On phone.

Don't you unlock additional structured pvp cosmetic gear as you win more matches and rank up? I remember reading something about pvp rewards, but I am not entirely sure.

Edit: yeah, its glory you earn and can trade for better looking pvp gear. I haven't seen anything about this from the betas though.

Glory is a currency you gain through winning PvP and allows you to unlock better looking gear.

So, the Thead title says that the closed beta will be at the end of March, which is this weekend. Was that moved back, or have beta invites already gone out?

Last weekend was a beta weekend.

There may be more scheduled.

Sheesh, do people just love to bitch and not think things through at all. That gladosrev2 guy nailed it. You could have 1 billion gold on you from selling money bought gems, but if you don't have the supply, the blueprints aren't worth a thing....Cutting off supply lines in WvW's is going to be incredibly important.

I couldn't even imagine what a nightmare this would be. 10 skill keys, a weapon swap key, F1 - F3 skill keys, if you're a pet user, then the number increases for an additional 5 keys. And basic movement would be 7 keys. Maybe I'm just ignorant to the way a gamepad would be beneficial in this game, but it seems like such a PITA and would hinder more than help. It sure as hell would be comfortable though.

Go play Tera

The only thing preventing gamepad controls in GW2 is lack of interest and time from the devs, nothing more

Blow ALL the cooldowns, use NO Virtues. /facepalm.

Has there been any talk of some kind of rank in structured PvP? Cause videos like these make me think a lot of teams will just steam roll a lot of people after release. That can get pretty bad and boring for both parties.

Looks like GW2tools.com is in the process of updating their site with the new traits.

Bout damn time.

Edit:Also for those that are coming from GW1 it looks like there is a series to show the differences that took place between GW1 and GW2, the first one is on Temple of the Ages.

Don't you guys who play the beta intensively find it a shame that when the actual release is here, almost nothing will be fresh for you ?

I stay away from most GW2 sites/topics because I want to be awed when finally playing the retail.

This is why when I played my friends game, I only chose Human (Asura was not available anyhow), and I think the highest level the toons on his account got to was 12. Not much spoiled there at all. Will do the same with pre-purchase betas.

I guess this doesn't qualify as "intensively" though.

Eh dynamic event stuff I am starting to get to the point where I want to avoid more info. But for everything else I feel it's no big deal, but I will be avoiding my two main races when they do become available. But for now that is made easy.

Tournaments weekly/monthly etc

I get that there will be that. But on a day to day basis the jumping in randoms with no real rankings could kind of get boring. Unless they try to pair teams against like sized teams and stuff like that. Also I am hoping with the ability to make your own private game that this will make for a good customs community for competitive play.

Also GW2tools.com is up and available with the new traits. They say abilities(guessing they mean skills) will be up soon.

For competitive PvP, are they going to have a filter that separates pre-mades and PUGs? Although I don't see myself taking part in much competitive PvP at all (as I absolutely HATED this in Rift....was basically feeding points/wins to pre-mades), I may do some just for armor sets.

I read there is some matchmaking based on glory, don't know what else though :(

Not at all. (Not stating if I was in the GW2 beta or not, just saying from experience in the many betas I've been in the past)

I doubt it. Your best bet would just to do PvP early on so you won't have to deal with them.

Might get some news, might not...

Twitter said:
Monday April 2, we’ll be hosting an #EUFanDay in sunny Brighton for #GW2 European community sites. More info to come :)

Guild Wars has a huge following in Europe, maybe they'll make a big deal out of letting them hear the release date first? Probably not, but still; it's a little bit of info between now and the 10th.

awesome find. it would be nice if it is the release date. wishful thinking I suppose.

Saw this earlier today, the player isn't amazing but it does give you an idea what kind of wicked nasties are out roaming around:
http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/guild-wars-2-bam-hunter-beta-edition-day1/

These are some pretty complex enemies for such low levels; the Rotting Ancient Oakheart (level 11)...
  • ... spawns adds (which poison and appear to have a ranged attack),
  • ... drops pods that heal her if she's near them (I didn't see anyone trying to destroy the pods, dunno if that's possible or not),
  • ... roots quite a bit, and not at random; she roots and then bears down on people.
A level 11 elite in other games would just be slightly bigger, maybe a different color, and have more HP. This sumbitch is pulling off tricks that some raid bosses would be envious of. At level 11.

I doubt we'll be so lucky. And I hardly had to go looking, I just look at Twitter once or twice a day and see if there's any news.

i still think they will reveal the date @ 10 april. they cant go mass market with their pre purchase thingie without a release date.

Yeah, that's what we're all leaning towards now. I dunno if we said it during or after the podcast, but I think a lot of us are thinking they have to give a release date when they start taking money for it, otherwise they're setting themselves up for a shitload of nerdrage (not that they don't have plenty of that already) but more importantly, a lot of bad PR.

Yup. This logic makes complete sense. If they don't give a release date then the only reason they're doing the pre-order is for beta, which I don't think is a very good reason.

They will definitely give us the date by then. You don't make people buy the game and then give them no date for what they just fully paid for. It's one thing when a third party like Gamestop offers pre-orders way in advance but the company themselves couldn't possibly pull such a horrendous move. They would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Anyone know when they start sending out beta invites?

They sent out invites for the last event quite a while ago, and the next Beta will likely be for those who Pre-Purchase (which starts April 10th). I dunno if they're also going to let people who signed up in there or not. Either way, I wouldn't expect much news before the 10th.
