Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

Isnt the "return within 5 days" just the precaution so you dont get a break in service (access to GW2) at launch? They are giving you a 5 day buffer to pickup your final game (and key), if you miss the buffer then you lose access to the game post launch until you actually go pickup the game and resume your access.

This will be my first MMO launch, how do other MMOs handle prepurchase/early starts with physical releases? Surely they must have something in place to prevent someone from prepurchasing, getting the beta/early access code, and then cancelling the order right?

No idea. Some do, some don't. I pre-purchased Tera for beta access in early February, decided I didn't like it and just this weekend requested and got a refund for the game. I don't really see ANet locking people in, even if they did pre-purchase, received and used their codes.

Kinda up... the complete purchase button is broken. What a tease.

I thought it was a browser problem at first. Broken complete button in IE and my cart keeps emptied itself in chrome.

If all have these problems then I should be heading to work, hopefully it work later today.

It looks like they fixed the currency problem for us Aussies. How much is the std/digital deluxe version for you Americans?

$59.99 for the std / $79.99 deluxe.

EDIT: Looks like the Complete button works for North America now but now the Account Creation times out for me... anyone else? (Prob due to high traffic still.)

Yeah, account creation/registration must be the weak link, because I could purchase just fine. Oh well, I'll finish that tomorrow morning.

Hmmm. No sign of the pre-purchase at Amazon yet. May just get the Digital Download version. Or perhaps go to Best Buy...

Whatahell, seems like no store here in sweden have updated their page so you can pre-purchase the Collectors Edition, just the standard edition. :/

Edit: Except one, and that is GAME, but they started to pre-sell very early which made me worry if they werent ignoring some rule ArenaNet set up about the pre-sale.

From the mouth of the man himself regarding the 502s:

We're working on this error now. Since you're seeing this error during the registration phase, you've already successfully purchased the game, and have a key you can use to complete registration any time. There's no need to stay up tonight waiting. :)

So any idea when is this actually coming out?

Got some no-name error 3 times when I was about to finish my paypal purchase and it doesn't even let me log in to paypal now. When I enter my country/email the price keeps loading and spits a "Error retrieving order information. Try again?" in the end. :(

Congratulations on successfully completing the registration process for Guild Wars 2!

The game client will be available shortly; we will send you an e-mail with a download link.

wub wub ..hands in the air ^^

No release date?

"When it's ready."

You've got people kickstarting products with thousands, if not millions, of dollars that do not have a solid release date. I think the issue of Guild Wars 2 not having a release date is miniscule at best. Granted today's society is quite an impatient one so I'm sure there will be people out there with bite marks in their sofas and such.

I think the point he is making is that the game is £15-20 more than most PC games at full retail price.

Which is entirely understandable. Luckily as a consumer you don't have to exclusively buy it via the website. Some people are content on waiting until the game hits and barely touches the $40 pricepoint.

How is this any different from buying a popular game on Steam or Origin prior to its release date?

It's also a scumbag move from Steam/Origin to charge for a pre-order. It's also £10 more than the Blizzard RRP, and £20 more than the usual PC game.

Okay, screw my country and its poor handling of this.

2 stores sold out their Collectors Editions before the pre-purchase date. 1 just randomly updated their site in the middle of the night and not midnight then ran out before I could even wake up. 1 hasnt even bothered to update their site for this.

Looks like Im just gonna have to deal with the Digital Deluxe, and I was so looking forward to getting the Collectors Edition for this. :(

Buy it somewhere else? This is coming from someone who has 38 items in their current Steam wishlist waiting for seasonal sales because there is no way in hell I will buy The Witcher 2 for anything more than $15-20. I'm trying to provide an alternative viewpoint here.

Unless Amazon has it for like £35 then I might not bother with it at all, not paying £50/$80 for a standard copy of a game.

Seems Play has it for £40, but everywhere else is £50.
