Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

Opening pre-orders, including up front payment, when they refuse to confirm the release date will only lead to much aggravation with the fanbase.

Not even SWTOR did this, if you pre-ordered they just sent you the pre-order code for the early access without any cost involved, you were only charged when the game was released.

Charging £50 is insane... It feels like some sort of error or something. They should have just made the game P2P...

Just to put it in perspective, I've got Diablo 3 on preorder from Amazon for £21.

Unless Amazon has it for like £35 then I might not bother with it at all, not paying £50/$80 for a standard copy of a game.

Seems Play has it for £40, but everywhere else is £50.

Converting the price to USD is not a valid comparison. There isn't a 20% VAT or any tax at all included in the $60 US price. Any taxes are added to the $60.

I already did this earlier because you UK people keep bitching, but £50 - 20% VAT = £41.67 = $66 USD. You guys want price parity with the US? There you go.

I still think there will be a release date announcement after the first weekend beta, and that it will most likely be August at the latest.

PC games are usually £30 which is like $47. I could understand a £40 RRP (which is standard for console games), but £50 is a complete joke.

Lots of Europeans complain about how we get other stuff cheaper in the US (usually Steam sales or hardware) and that you want the US price. I pretty much never see US people complain about how Europeans get cheaper physical games. You win some, you lose some if there's US price parity.

Diablo 3 is a £45 pre-purchase and around £30 online at Amazon right now. I'm pretty sure GW2 will be around £30 when it comes to the retail sites.

Reporting from Canada...

Bought, Registered and Linked account without any problem.

Now just waiting for that email to download the client. I wonder which will come first, my new PC or a beta weekend.

You can pre purchase at play for £40 or pre order at game for £35

Prepurchased...I think I linked it with my GW1 account successfully, but I have no idea.
I tried to link with my gmail as mail first and it complained then I tried ncsoft and it didn't.
Hope it worked for us both! :)

I choiced googlemail.com as domain for my gmail account, don't want the mail to get stuck like the beta signup.
Got both Registration e-mails within seconds from registration.

How does that work?
Do you have to register with your GW1 email or is there a specific section where you can enter that?

There's a specific sub-section when you have to enter your GW2 code where it asks you your GW1 email and password if you have one.

Digital Deluxe has been mine since midnight :D got my account all successfully regged too. Now waiting for client download link to arrive.

You can have different email addresses for the accounts.

When you pressed the complete purchase button you are guided to create a new Guild Wars 2 account. First question is if you have a GW account.

If you answered yes, you can enter your GW information.

hmm I don't remember if I had an email account associated with my gw1 account, but I can still play gw1, how can I link it with gw2?

debated. didn't buy CE. went with DDE and using the rest of the moniez for a new graphics card.

Anyways. Purchased off GW2.com and linked with GW1 account. ready ready.

How else would they do it, though? You need some form of proof you actually paid for it, and relying on the retailer to get it right isn't a very good plan. I suppose ANet could try to work out some form of printable "I purchased this!" receipt you register your pre-purchase code to for the retailers, so you could just print it off when the release date is announced, but that's a pretty big mess waiting to happen.

Yeah, true, just seems weird is all.

Amazon is a Pre-Purchase partner, just not for the Collector's Edition. If you Pre-purchase from them you'll get into the betas and headstart.

Seriously though, if you want to pre-purchase the game and not fool around with receipts, get it straight from ArenaNet. I seem to recall reading earlier that you can even pay for it with Paypal.

This is what I did. Just bought the Standard Edition!

Better than having to buy Crackdown to get Halo 3 beta access.

Actually I thought that worked out great. They did piggyback but I would have never been exposed to an otherwise awesome game (and probably one of my favorite this gen).

It's too expensive imo for a CE. I've bought two Blizzard CE's for the price of that. :(

Yeah. I get suckered into CE's then usually less than a month later never use the things that it came with. I'm really new to GW so I'm not sure how the 'free moves' or w/e will play out but I can't believe it will be gamebreaking. Warhammer, 2 WoW CE's, Aion CE (I think it was $59.99 though) ... all just did nothing after a few weeks. The only CE that I think I really enjoy(ed) has been Forza 4 because of all the cars.

Is there any way to merge ncsoft accounts yet? My guild wars account is on a seperate account to the rest of my ncsoft games.

hmm still not seeing a prepurchase option on amazon.com (US) this happening with anyone else?
NCSoft is still communicating the amounts of CEs that separate shops are going to get, if Amazon hasn't gotten their quota they won't go online with the pre-order.

Most of my local shops know their amounts so they should notify Amazon soon too.

Whoa, prepurchase is live. CE is out of the question, but man does the digital deluxe version not seem worth an extra $20. I wonder what the numbers will be on these!

Just a little confused about the entire process. I was at my local gamestop yesterday and pre-ordered the CE, which I am still unsure about as I was burned with the SWTOR CE, and the store manager had absolutely no idea about the whole pre-purchase thing. Have Gamestop employees been informed that customers that pre-purchase are to be given boxes with codes in them? Are we to assume that Gamestop and Best Buy will be giving these boxes out starting today, or should we expect a delay before B&M stores catch up with everything?

I'd like to know an update on this as well. I'm dropping some money on the CE but will attempt to go into a GS late this afternoon to find out more information.

The way I understand it, instead of a box, your code is printed on your receipt when you pre-purchase the game
