Guild Wars 2 Press Beta [Prepurchase Is Live]

So after realizing I have a ton of un-used gift cards for both Best Buy and Gamestop. Going Best Buy most likely. So is it correct that I should expect a "box" from them with the code, and not a code via email? Just so I get this sorted out after the debacle I had with the last few preorders from there.

since you are probably going to the store(bestbuy.com does not have the option yet) they should give you the code or a box with the code.

I don't get how they justify the digital deluxe version for 20 more dollars.

Yeah, just a bunch of 1 use items, one pet and one new skill. No soundtrack even, char slots or extra goodies. Just buy the regular ed. unless you are pretty hardcore about some wolf summons which will probably be useless.

Having issues, as expected, with GameStop in-store. The lady didn't know anything and neither did the managers she called.

I have a related but unrelated question, though. My friend wants the game but wants to order the CE online. If he does use GameStop.com, does anyone know how fast he'll get his pre-purcahse key?

Gamestop.com doesn't have a system in place, yet, to send out prepurchase keys. In fact, the website doesn't even differentiate pre-orders and pre-purchases.

:lol

Brilliant!

Just called my local Gamestop, the clerk had no idea what I was talking about. He said there was a Guild Wars 2 beta entry in the system, but when he tried printing it, there was no code.

As expected, only ArenaNet is secure on what's going on. Better wait it out a day or two for the pre-purchase in full at GameStop.

It's all a ploy to get you to order from Guildwars2.com!

I seriously doubt that. They realistically want you to get the Collector's Edition, as it will yield them tons of monay.

I imagine, like always with GameStop, their systems are a day behind. Meaning, that Pre-purchase starts today, but only TOMORROW will their systems have the beta codes loaded in to print on the receipt.

Just got back from GS. Like I said in an earlier post I made while I was there, they have no idea what's going on. I waited there 30 minutes while the manager called all kinds of people, all who had no idea what I was talking about. I even got the guy to go to the GW2 site and look it all up, and it was the first time he heard about any of this.

He finally sent an email to the district manager and said he'll call me when he hears something. I'm not expecting him to know anything, either.

This is why I didn't want to deal with them. We've know they were a retailer for the CE pre-purchase for, what, a week now? How the hell is it not in their system?

Honestly, at this point I'm not expecting GS to come through.

Any success stories from Best Buy? I'm curious if they manged to get their shit in order, since they were only revealed as a retailer for the CE pre-purchase yesterday.

Because if I know from GameStop, they rigidly adhere to whatever the companies they work with tell them to do - ie, if pre-purchase starts today, they won't do anything until stuff is in the system/pipeline - meaning instead of being on the ball, they wait until it's officially open, THEN get items/codes a day or two after. It's really dumb.

So it appears from this that Amazon pre-order does not qualify for Beta because they don't take your money up-front? That's OK, I guess I'll just play D3 in the meantime.

Huh. If I had know that I wouldn't have gone today. I should have just called instead of wasting the gas.

@Gamestop Any word on whether us Guild Wars 2 CE pre-purchase/pre-order people will get a game key? Or is this ArenaNet's fluke?

@theorangegamer we're looking into it :) ^AT

At least Anet knows there's an issue with the Gamestop problems.

Alright. Just got home from Gamestop after ordering the Collector's Edition (My Wife and Arken talked me into it). No information attached to the receipt at all, was on hold with Gamestop's 1800 number when my local store called me.

Seems that 5 minutes after I walked out of the store, an e-mail went out about the CE Pre-purchase program and that my code is in the system now. I'm still out and about, so I'm headed back to pick it up.

SO, Anyone ordering the CE in-store at Gamestop, if you did not get any kind of Pre-purchase code, call your local store and check again because it's apparently working now.

Also, the clerk was adamant that this will be coming out June 26th because "They are legally obligated to Gamestop to release on that date or we will sue them if it gets pushed back." Lulz.

Well, GS called me back and just randomly gave me a code. Despite me not paying for the CE yet, because I wasn't going to give them money without getting a code. Hmm.

Do you have to go back to the store to get the goodies on launch day or do you get them when you prepurchase.

Weird.

It's funny, there was a woman in front of me getting a CE for her husband and a DD for herself. We tried to figure out what the hell was going on and the clerk seemed completely clueless on the whole thing.

Gamestop... >_<

On launch day. You watch, that sumbitch is gonna be opened or smashed or something. With Gamestop, it's never easy or over when you think it is.

So... Who wants to start betting on whether the event is the weekend of the 21st and 22nd, or the 28th and 29th? The former would be preferable because I'd lose many hours of valuable playtime to a Magic prerelease on the latter.

I wonder if the system will assign me a new code when I go to pre-purchase it now. It kind of makes me nervous. I don't want to use this one, since it's a retail key apparently. At the same time I don't want them to run out. I just don't want things to get screwed up somehow. I can't get back down there today because I have to work in a couple hours.

One interesting thing is he told me the code expires 6/26.

Prepurchased and registered.

Despite spending 60$ on a game that has no release date, I was really surprised we still don't have a concrete date on the first BWE. Anet is a joke.

Fuck i dont know if i should get the CE.....fuuuuuuuuuu!!!!! Its really not worth it for me.....
I think i have some coupons from best buy but i hate going there....

Totally going to hit them up on my way home to see if I can snag a code. Would be great if I could save my money right now.

That's what pre-ordering/purchasing is after all.

Fuckin' software development, how does it work? If they knew they would tell you but the problem is if they lay out a concrete date and can't make it then people throw a fit.

Per your first comment, no, pre-ordering is a couple bucks down on something. And yes I know that's what prepurchasing is, I just think its interesting that Anet can make so many people (including me) buy a game which has no release date, and play coy with the community about even a window of when it could come out.

There are two possible days, cool your jets. ANet doesn't do big scheduled hype.

Anet doesn't do big scheduled hype like a scheduled prepurchase (which, let's be honest is a total nonevent which they hyped) for a game that has no release date?

Why not just get it from ANet. Unless you're buying the CE or you have credit with any other retailers, people should just save themselves the hassle and get it off the guild wars 2 website.

I was thinking the exact same thing, there's no real reason not to unless you've got an absolutely horrible internet connection.

Are the ncplatform.net sites official (ie. gemstore.ncplatform.net)? Whois doesn't display any useful info (WhoisGuard).

I'm getting the CE for the lady, cant order it directly from Anet or I would have hours ago and trust me I wish I could, would rather give them all my money any day.

That depends on where, maybe that's true at Gamestop but there's no standard definition for what constitutes a 'pre-order'.

and again, they aren't making you do anything. You pre-purchased knowing there was no release date or beta date information. They don't have a release date because they don't know when it will be ready, that's not being coy, that's being a realistic developer.

only gamestop and bestbuy have the option of CE

I am also waiting for amazon since I have 20 dollars in gift card(amazon will be pre purchase digital only unless you preorder the standard edition)

If you pre-purchase anytime in the future (let's say a month from now) will you still get beta access or is it only for early pre-purchasers? I ask because I am convincing a friend to come play with me but he doesn't have money atm.

Edit: reading the FAQ but they don't give any time frame on pre-purchase.

I guess you could pre purchase the game a month or two later, we have no info about this.
Probably more people will buy it once we have a solid beta day so at least have to the end of the month.
