He only writes and directs a few of the episodes according to what I am reading online. So maybe you can just skip those episodes and give the rest a try? And judging by the trailer nothing I saw there seemed to have his trademark style anyways.

These are almost always universally underwhelming but I'm down.

Best anthology series like this was Masters of Horror because they knew to play to sex, gore, and horror

First two episodes are up, and it's a promising start for the series. Really loved Graveyard Rats in particular, by the director of Cube.

I must say that this is a nice way to release a Horror-themed anthology series - two episodes per night on the last week of October.

Edit: Episode 3 (The Autopsy) is 10/10, from the director of The Empty Man, which was also a quality film (and comic!). 4th episode, on the other hand, is the weakest by a wide margin.

Episode 5 (Pickman's Model) is another 10/10. Probably one of the best Lovecraft adaptations to date. Dreams in the Witch House was a weird one, but then again it's always been a bit of a weird story huh?

I was excited for dreams in The witch house, instead i got ronald Weasley tripping on peyote to satisfy his sister complex.

Really impressed so far. Each had an engaging premise and for the most part different tones/styles thanks to the separate authors/directors. I'm not certain if there is an overarching theme, it looks more so like short stories curated by Del Toro which I think works better with horror. Horror Anthologies seem to cripple themselves or ruin their reveal trying to keep to an ongoing narrative or themes at times. "The Autopsy" is the highlighted for me thus far.

It doesn't look like Del Toro directed any of the episodes but produced/hosted and has written two of the shorts. The only one available at this time is is "Lot 36" with the amazing Tim Blake Nelson which I thought was a lot of fun. Considering the massive spectrum of his work I don't know how anyone could say he "sucks". He certainly has a style if thats not to your liking. Personally I feel like his success is well earned.

The skin cream ep lost me by the end, it was a 20 min Tales from the Crypt ep dragged out to twice that length. Even though I believe it was written by a woman, directed by a woman, stars almost all women, and I think even adapted from a story by a woman, my wife (a woman) thought the dialogue was super cringe though she admitted it was pretty much spot on about how shallow, competitive, and vain they are :p

Pickmans Model was another one that the extended content hurt a bit, IMHO. I get what they were going for and the basic premise has no shock value today in this SFX and gore saturated world, but the added corruption angle didn't quite hit for me. The girl was banging though.

I gotta track down the Shea story they used for "The Autopsy", I like his stuff and that was was dope. I think I've read the Graveyard Rat story before, or at least a very similar one.

I was wondering about Dreams in the Witch House because it's all about going into other dimensions and this and that and something tells me they didn't pull it off for this episode and changed a lot.

The first two episodes were okay at best. Especially the first one has a decent premise but takes too long to get going and the payoff certainly wasn't worth the runtime.

First ep made me want to watch "The Ninth Gate" again. Arcane antique books unlocking hell, sign me up!

And not a single mention of the Necronomicon yet! Impressed by the writers collective restraint...:p

I agree completely. I hope that the rest aren’t a slow plod to a disappointing climax.

It was awful, only kept the names the same. Walter is no longer a curious mathematician, but a guy with an unhealthy obsession with his dead sister.

Episode 7 (The Viewing) may be my favorite so far. Just really cool style and casting choices. I'd love to see more of what happens beyond what we see in the episode. 🔥

Episode 8: Rick Grimes Loves Birdies was really boring in comparison.

I have watched 4 episodes and thought it was really entertaining. Kinda reminds me of tales from the crypt as some are more spooky and serious and some more comedic.
Episode 3 has been my favorite.

The face cream one was my least favorite so far, had some good moments but it was just too long. The autopsy one was my favorite so far, dark and gritty, with a nice pay-off.

Episode 3 was the best and 7 was really style over substance, started off interesting but the finale just felt flat.

2 and 8 are pretty average, everything else is terrible.

I forgot about The Autopsy - It was an amazing episode...although I always have a difficult time watching someone cut into bodies.
