Oh bugger all. The company making my guitar said that they're not going to install the bridge posts because apparently 'the hole we drill will not match your bridge perfectly', when all I asked for was a straight bridge alignment instead of a slanted alignment.

wtf that's a huge red flag

Looks awesome though

Well, the reviews and impressions I've seen of this company indicate that they're perfectly playable and don't suffer from any major flaws, so I don't know what the fuck that little exchange was all about. I think they're just trying to save money and time and hand it over to me without extra work.

To be fair, I did say that I didn't need a bridge, but apparently that translates to not drilling the holes whatsoever.

It does indeed look awesome though. And hey, it's a custom semi hollow built guitar with a belly contour. For 700 bucks. Can't even be mad

so recieved my ibanez RGIR38FE 8 string. first impressions, actually smaller than i thought it would be. 27inch scale doesn't seem that unwieldy when you've been playing bass for a while and the neck is about as small as it could be. kind of weird how many strings actually fit on the neck though, compared to playing a 5 string bass. practising my string hopping is going to be the goal for a while, haha.
my only disappointment is that the killswitch is a latching switch so more of an on-off thing rather than a useable effect, though i imagine swapping it for a non-latching or a button would be easy enough.

They did send me a couple of more pics though.

Fingers crossed that I'm not just getting a nice looking plank of wood..

That looks tasty.

I got some new strings for the guitar.
"Hi-Def NEON Multi-Color Medium Light Acoustic Guitar Strings (11-50) 2 Pack" They're $6.99 at Musician's friend and I had $7.20 in points from buying the guitar so they were free.

They look really cool and they should help with Rocksmith. Has anyone here used these?

Well, me and my friends have been trying to jam recently. Might be good incentive to practice harder.

I was interested in trying them out myself but wasn't sure how good they were.

One thing that annoys me about Rocksmith is the coloring of the strings. The B string should be blue and the G string should be green!

I bought an Electro-Harmonix Switchblade+ A/B/Y pedal yesterday. I was swapping my guitar lead back and forth between a VOX AV30 and a Fender SuperChamp X2 and realized I should finally get a pedal, saw a Craigslist ad that had just been listed a few hours earlier, from someone who lived a couple miles away, I had $25 in my wallet which he accepted, so it seems like it was kismet.

Nice! I could use one of those channel switchers - I'd rather have a set distortion sound on one amp and a clean sound on the other instead of just clicking the distortion off then having to adjust everything for a nice clean.

Yeah those color strings are weird. Seeing them a lot more these days. I don't like the plasticy feeling on them.

Finally got my Aerodyne Japan Strat.

Only thing I might change is the tremolo arm if possible (would prefer an all chrome one) or failing that go hardtail by blocking the bridge.
But she's real pretty and very playable.

Haven't really played in a while and I figured I sold my ESP to somebody who actually uses it. It was Snow White when I put it in case and it's never been in cigarette smoke or anything, but the yellowing has started to kick in. I tried to take pictures of it and it's most apparent when you compare the color of the binding and the top.

https://m.imgur.com/gallery/Nv5QX

Is there any way to make it go away?

It doesn't bother me, but the prospective buyer might see it as a bad thing.

Nope. Nothing you can do besides stripping and repainting. However, people actually look for white guitars that are turning ivory - it's a desired vintage look.

That happens to off-white poly finishes, they eventually go yellow. Call it "vintage" like other poster said.

Hey guitar bros, is $799 for a gibson SG high performance a good price? Guitar center is lowering the prices on their unsold 2016 models, and I've always wanted an SG. Though I'm wondering if they'll keep lowering it if no one buys it.

Cheapest on reverb is a used one for $825 with most new over $1000. I hate big box guitar stores but that's a decent deal, and you might be able to finagle an extra 10% if it's the last one or if you see any scuffs from being a floor model.

Sad to see that price, at one point in my life I passed on an early 80s SG for $500...I wanted my birth year and it was one year off. Le sigh.

Crossposting from the other guitar thread:

Bit of a specific question but I've been playing somewhat seriously for almost a year now, trying to get the hang of the basics. I've found out that the stuff I've enjoyed the most playing are songs where the lead plays a lot of single notes. Think Interpol and (early) Arctic Monkeys, like Death Ramps, Specialist, 12:51 (Strokes). Except now I'm running out of new songs to learn that are in this style, and are on that level of difficulty. Any suggestions?

Have a Greco Les Paul a year younger than I am. Matches my partner's birth year. I bought it due to the combination of price and colour, so just a silly coincidence.

Just cleaned and restrung my three babies.
Have to say, the PRS tuners are are joy to work with.

Feels so nice having a clean guitar with an oiled fretboard and new strings.
I'm going thru the three like I'm in a shop deciding which one to buy :D

Have a Schecter C-1 Plus from about ten years ago, absolutely love the guitar but it's had a pair of "Duncan Design" pups since I got it (cheap Asian-made equivalent of Duncans). I recently picked up guitar again after taking a break for a couple years so I decided to finally make the jump to the real Duncan hot rodded set.

I got guitar center to do it - looked into doing it myself but at the end of the day I didn't want to mess with soldering my own guitar, and surprisingly they were cheaper than any local store. Anyway I'd been reading recently that this guitar held up extremely well compared to other recent Korean made Schecters so I decided to try a few while I was in there. I paid $500 when I got it and boy it felt & looked so much better than the Schecters in the store that cost $1000, I gotta say I'm not surprised that they discontinued the C-1 Plus now after feeling the difference (if you know what I'm saying). I wanted to try that because I was debating if paying for the pups and the replacement was worth it but I definitely felt satisfied after playing the other more expensive options.

This is a pic with the duncan design pickups still on them, the real duncans are of course pure black which will suit the look of the guitar a bit better for me

Also got gifted a G&L Tribute JB-2 Bass and it seriously kicks ass. My buddy has a G&L USA Legacy and it's made me really consider picking up a used one down the road having now owned this G&L bass. Fret ends stick a LITTLE bit not enough to worry about it.

goddamn!! do want! I want an Earthquaker pedal so bad. I was looking at some of their distortion/fuzz pedals earlier. a bit pricey but man they sure do sound nice.

I've been thinking about getting a multi effects pedal. I primarily use stomp boxes but have been wanting to get a multi effects pedal for a while. anyone have any recommendations between the 300-400 range? I was looking at this Boss GT-100 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal but it's $499.99...just don't think I can justify spending that much on one right now but she sure is pretty

What do you primarily want from an effects pedal? And what pedals do you currently have and/or use most?

I've been really happy with my Line 6 M13. Look up scene mode for it as well.

Right now I primarily use my hall of fame reverb and my flashback delay. I have a Big Muff fuzz pedal that I've never been too thrilled with to be honest. My Boss Distortion pedal broke last night so I was thinking about just getting another stomp box, something like a tube screamer but then started thinking of the possibilities that could come with a mutli fx pedal. Are they good for different types of distortion? I want something with nice sounding distortion/fuzz but I want options for chorus, tremolo, phaser, etc. Would like to be able to customize my own sounds as well. I was actually looking at that Line 6 earlier too. 399.99 so that's definitely within my price range.

Multifx tend to be bad at distortion... and Line 6 is a pretty bad offender here. For delays and reverbs I love it. I don't use tons of modulation type effects but they are great on the M13 as well. If you really need some distortion pedals maybe look into going to the M9 to fit another pedal in your budget.

I use mine with a Maxon OD808 and Fulltone Fulldrive 2.

ah shit, appreciate the heads up on that. I think I'm gonna stick with individual stomp boxes for now then. I absolutely love the reverb/delay combo I've got with the TC stuff. Probably gonna get me a fuzz/distortion pedal from Earthquaker.

Just got these over the break. I'm really digging the booster. I feel like it adds some weight to my sound, makes it fuller somehow. I'm still messing around with the Crayon, primarily going to use it as a low gain overdrive.

HjzKPaT.jpg

I learned using only electrics.

When I tried a typical fat-body acoustic for the first time, it was horrible. The strings were stiffer and much higher off the frets.

I had trouble playing cords without a lot of buzzing.

Thankfully, someone had a thinner acoustic that was more akin to an electric and I could play that fine.

I'm going to a dealer today that has Schecters and typically have a couple of G&Ls. Im seriously considering the G&L Tribute ASAT Deluxe (tele with humbuckers and coil tap). I've played just the regular Legacy and love its feel.

I'll probably come home with a new guitar today. Or at least have one on layaway.

Edit: forgot to mention I love that guitar. Ive liked Schecters for 12 years and never owned one.

I have quite a few Schecters. One is a C-1 Classic -
Has a Seymour Duncan JB SH-4B in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan Jazz SH-2N in the neck. Very nice clean sound thanks to a 5 way switch. Pretty too.
Also have a Banshee Elite 6 FR-S -
Very professional guitar with Schecters own US made custom pup along with a Sustainiac.
Plus I have a Hellraiser C-1 FR-S and a Blackjack SLS (Tele shape) which I don't think they make anymore.
They're all made in South Korea but they're all very good.

generally stay away from multi fx. for 400 you can def get a pretty good combo of individual pedals that do the job better.

check out the following for dirt:

way huge swollen pickle - p much a big muff+ that's usuable in a live setting
ehx east river drive - great tubescreamer clone for 60 bucks
proco rat - you want 90s alt rock distortion, it's right here--you can get these for ~50 used

It's beautiful!!!! Played with it for about 20 minutes at guitar center and couldn't leave without it. Going from a fucking boss distortion/big muff combo to this is fucking mind blowing. I need a pedal board stat.

I've been getting an itching for a G&L as well. Kinda want a Comanche. The ASAT looks really cool too - a rocker tele. I hear the difference between a Tribute and a Made in USA G&L is not that noticeable.

Bruh, that pedal is bonkers. It's so good. Light OD all the way up to wild thick distortion. The built in boost is money also. It's crazy how many overdrive "voices" they put in there.

Bonus: my Palisades

The trio featuring the Schecter with the new real Duncans

The acoustic is a cheap Yamaha Eterna from Costco from like 15 years ago that I got from my dad since he never played it, it plays pretty good and sounds great though! Might upgrade at some point but it does the trick for now :)

Heard great things about the G&L ASATs, can't go wrong with that

Looks like volume knob has been removed and switched and the original Ibanez tuners have been replaced. And I think those are Dimarzios and not stock pickups. Might be better though, since it looks like stock was active (battery compartment). But no tone knob is weird, unless the guy's just a pure burner.

Yeah, I've played several G&Ls. Including the ASAT. Schecter's tele with single coils (not sure of model) is pretty nice too.

The people that used to carry G&Ls around here stopped carrying them and Fender, and it being after Christmas they didn't have much anywhere for me to play around with.

I would say the two highlights were:

Vintage V100PGM
XYAsYMu.jpg

This is the first time I had seen, heard of or played a Vintage. I was pretty impressed. I've got dozens of hours on an Epi Standard LP and it easily beat it out on tone and felt like it was put together better. With a price tag of $649 it better, lol.

Yamaha Pacifica 611HFM

Now that was a nice guitar. Not exactly what I was looking for as far as pickup configuration but I was just playing a couple since I was already there. That P90 was really nice in the neck position and it was push/pull. They had it stickered at $649 as well.

I'll keep looking around. The other guitarist in my band got a new $1000 PRS a couple months ago so it gave me the itch to get something. I've had a Squier Vintage Modified Strat for awhile now and I love it but I never splurge, so I figure it's time :p

Very nice! I got a Vintage V6M24 earlier this month (post#315). I haven't heard much about them before either but got turned onto them recently. Their Fender and Gibson copies are supposed to be very good, even better than Squiers and Epiphones. I did have a slight issue with mine - pickup was installed crooked and I fixed it myself. I've also heard of other QC issues like toggle switches installed upside down and such and yesterday on the Vintage FB group there was a big discussion of crappy fretting. Their factory is in Vietnam, which isn't a bad thing - Southeast Asia is becoming a hotbed for guitar factories - but they could be a bit more careful with the builds it seems. I'm rooting for them though - you can't deny an affordable guitar stocked with killer Trev Wilkinson hardware and nice wood (their wood and paint is pretty amazing for the price). The problem is "Vintage" is a terrible name and very confusing when you look up "Vintage Guitars".

Cool! Thanks for the info. I'm not going to rule it out until I get up to a guitar center and play a few more.

And yes, I agree the brand name is terrible. I didn't think of it until I went to google them and I was thinking "Wow, they didn't think this one through". They are going to need some seriously genius marketing. Right now it is almost like they were once a thing and no longer exist but you can still buy used ones off random sites, haha.

edit: Just checked your link. Man that is a pretty guitar. I saw a Mitchell MD400 on musiciansfriend last night and checked some vids out. It had some pretty hot pickups. I'd like to try one of those out for the price of $280. I really only want 22 frets though. I like a chunky neck and decent sized frets.

So barre chords are fucking my thumb in the worst possible way. Anyone got a solution? Like playing a single chord repeatedly isn't a problem but once I start moving around the neck, it starts cramping up like mad. It it something I'll just get used to as I go on or is this something I'm doing wrong?

I've got a Taylor BT2, by the way.

Hello guitar gaf!

Been playing for 8 years but I started taking it seriously a few months ago. I'm not very good; I don't practice nearly enough but I've made a lot of progress this year, and even made a solo EP.

I learned tremolo picking, trevor picking, and a good bit about music production.
I've also gotten a lot better at chords. I used to not be able to play anything besides G and D maj.

If I could master something, I'd probably want to be a really good blues soloist. Flamenco would be cool too lol.

I just bought rocksmith 2014 remastered and I gotta say it's a great motivator. It's much improved over the original as well. I'd recommend it. Especially at the low price it is now.

My bandmate has some decent combo amps but I usually go straight through my digitech multi pedal into my interface.

When I started out I primarily played bass so I bought a used Dean edge 5 string and a used Warlock knock off

Before I recorded my EP I bought a new sterling SUB bass, new Ibanez Gio, and a used Charvel desolation. The Ibanez is like a cleaner strat for Lead and the Charvel is a more heavy rhythm. I didn't really care for playing single cutaway styles until I picked up the Charvel. I didn't know they could feel like that. It's an ugly glittery yellow color but I love the way it plays and sounds.

I sometimes use my bandmate's Warwick 6 string corvette (sooo damn amazing) and Ibanez hollow body.

I just helped a friend buy a 70s ovation acoustic/electric for his first guitar. I kinda want to buy it off of him.

Anyways that's my story. I kinda want to paint my Charvel and put a Floyd rose in the Ibanez but I don't think there are any shops in my area. Does anyone have experience with this?
