I completely buy in to the old west stuff, I think it's an area that gaming hasn't even come close to exploiting to its fullest potential.

A Free-roaming GTA-style game set in the old west with all the old west-style minutia (hearding, poker, duels, etc)? That ALONE sold me.

The fact that the game looks really good is just an added bonus ;)

The EGM article made it sound awesome. The Western genre has been tragically overlooked, and I'm hoping this game will be good. In the article Neversoft sounded pretty confident about it. They were already talking about sequels.

I'll be picking up the x360 version.

Before that though I'll have to get some old western movie soundtracks (Good, Bad & The Ugly etc) to upload so I can listen to 'em while moseying down the prairie and guning down varmits.
:lol

Neversoft has refined and refined and refined one of the best series out there, and the PSX Spiderman game was great... They really can't do harm in my eyes. I can't wait for this.

I think it looks very promising so far and the idea of a sandbox game set in the Wild West excites me. Apart from Outlaws and Oddworld: Strangers Wrath there hasn't really been any great games based on Westerns which is surprising as it seems like a great setting for a game.

If the Xbox 360 version costs more or isn't significantly upgraded then I'll just get it on PS2 or Xbox since it will probably be cheaper.

I don't think the genre has been overlooked, last year we had Red Dead Revolver and Dead Man's Hand. Both did okay in sales but not great. Publishers have tried but the gaming public have not responded with their wallets. Look at Darkwatch, high cinematic production values, great story, fun game with a new twist and still sold only 88K in August. I doubt Gun is going to reverse that trend. On paper, Westerns sound like a great genre to exploit, but in reality the typical gamer wants to blow up aliens and monsters with their gamma guns and ride around on hover crafts.

I think quality is more of an issue. Red Dead is a pretty good albeit rough game. Dead Man is fairly subpar and Darkwatch is a rather average mishmash of genres. I'm not saying that a western genre game should be expected to get as much consumer attention as some others, but a fairly competent sandbox title with nice polish all around would be a nice (and maybe obvious) addition to the market.

I can't identify with this character - why does he have to be white? </a certain clique of GAF shitheads I can't be bothered to name individually>

I'm a huge sucker for the Western genre - music, movies, you name it. As long as I don't hear about any goddamned flying dragons in this game, I'll be picking it up for Xbox on release.

I haven't figured out which version yet due to the weak xbox360 pics but I am totally onboard for this game. Gameinformer had a huge preview a couple of issues back and the game sounds like it could be really really good.
