Gunbarich & Strikers 1945 coming to Switch eShop by Zerodiv (supports portrait mode)

Bought Strikers a few minutes ago and gave it a go. It's pretty eye-opening playing this with joycons detached in portrait/tate mode. I mean, I've enjoyed shooters on other system, but they always felt awkward doing so on PSP, Vita, mobile (due to touchscreen controls), etc. Here, it feels natural, looks terrific, and yeah, this is a great port. Was so used to the longer loading screens on Saturn. Here, everything is so snappy. Very happy with this!

a little offtopic but relevant to this thread:
Does anyone know if there's a TV stand that let's you rotate the TV screen from horizontal to vertical and vice versa?

I flipped my old 42" LCD to tate position yesterday just to play Strikers 1945 on switch and it was just glorious.

Wow, congrats to them on the success. I hope more Psikyo games follow.

If it has a VESA mount on back (or adaptable to it) there's probably big monitor rotating mounts. A lot of stuff is meant for wall mounting, but there's stuff that can anchor to a desk too.

Oh dag, HORI stick arrived already. I guess that 1-2 month thing was extremely conservative. Cool.

Type C adapters indeed work for wired controllers on switch.

Holy shit! I'm genuinely shocked this works. Ordering an adapter pronto.

This mount might be of interest to you. Goes up to 70 inches so 42 should be a snore for it.

Anybody feels like there is some slight input lag playing Strikers with the Pro Controller ? Maybe it is just me.

Playing more intensive games like Strikers and KOF2K makes me realize the Pro Controller is not so great, but I am not sure of the cause (input lag or controller itself).

If you're playing it in wired mode, I heard that there's a weird bug that gives it a frame delay, which will probably be addressed later. I played mine wirelessly and I don't think I saw any input lag on my end.

Fucking great news! Thanks for sharing. Rare moments like this make me proud of this medium.

Sorry for double-posting, but does anybody knows if Gunbarich was originally played in the arcades with a knob/spinner (Arkanoid style) or just normal joystick? That's my make it or break it about buying the Switch port since I'm already disappointed there's no online leaderboards and looking at videos I get this feeling the game was built around those kind of controls... hopefully I'm wrong

It's based off the normal Gunbird mechanics, so as far as I know of that series it's just regular joystick. That said, I don't think Gunbarich actually HAD its own cabinet, it certainly had its own boards, but even those are scarce.

Well yeah it's sort of a spin-off to Gunbird as far as lore but the game plays nothing like GB1/2 ... but I've NEVER seen a Gunbarich cab out in the wild. Even looking online I can't find shit :(
Does Zerodev have an English Twitter? Maybe I should ask that and also about patching in online leaderboards and possible future releases

So does Gunbarich support the pro controller now or not?
I've seen some posts that say it doesn't support it while the official nintendo website of the game days it does support the pro con.
maybe it was patched in later? anyone knows?

I dunno if it has VESA mount. it's one of the first LCD TVs ever and, for a LCD TV, very heavy (30-35kg). thanx for the info anyway

That's exactly what I need. Thank you a ton

I mean for the most part it's been on MAME for ages and I haven't come up with any sort of discussion complaining about not being able to use a ball for it.

Yep, can confirm, stick came in Friday, grabbed the adapter on Saturday to test, and it works like a charm.

Can also confirm that actually the emulation options for Strikers are terrible. No options to reconfigure controls, which I didn't realize until I tried playing with the Hori stick. Especially after going back to Hamster's ACA Neogeo ports, and the berth of options in the menu of those games. Really frustrating, shoot is mapped to second button, buttom row. Bomb is mapped to first button bottom row and second top row, and formation is mapped to first top row. Super weird.

Indeed. My gooseneck arm is way too long so it looks a bit silly and contrived, but with a better mount I think it could work. Holds together well, can pick it up and move it around with no issues. And has built in rotation for changing screen orientation sooo.. now the hunt for a better mount.

Never seen it out in the wild but I have the PCB. AFAIK (or can remember) it's just a plain JAMMA PCB with no special control connectors for anything, it just used the standard stick and buttons...and looking for images of it to make sure I saw a flyer that just showed a regular stick and button, so yeah controls are fine. It even got some little oddities I remember in the movement right, like there's instances where you move faster for whatever reason.

Strikers got an update. It now shows up in your play activity (any previous time spent playing it isn't counted).

But it doesn't fix the issue where you have to manually change the controller grip order to use a single joycon in portrait mode. Gunbarich did this just fine at launch, so it's kinda weird Strikers still doesn't.

I really wish it was possible to reconfigure the controls. I'd like to play in vertical orientation with a single joycon connected to the console. The control rotation option almost works but you still have to use the fire button on the second joycon instead of just using the analog stick and buttons on one side. :/

Yeah, it's asinine... I was hoping that's what the update was for :/

Nintendo doesn't let devs support that particular control scheme.

I kind of figured this is the reason why it wasn't available from the start. Probably don't want to worry about the potential for people messing up their joycon rails if held incorrectly. Still a shame as I think it would be a nice option to have.

I really wish it was possible to reconfigure the controls period, in any way. Game is great, but there are next to no options whatsoever, especially after being spoiled by the ACA NEOGEO releases.

What's the point in having a tate mode if you can't use one joycon?! Just bought this for the tate mode but playing with two joycons in tate mode is plain dumb unless you play it so it scrolls sideways, but then the UI is still flipped to the side.

Get the hori dock for tabletop Tate.

And the one thing I know from the update is that it now shows up in your play log, which was not there from the start.

Picked this up the other day and it's fun. Brings back a lot of memories from when I was a kid. Runs great and is totally snappy. Wish I could turn my TV on it's side and play that way. Heh, heh.
