The description for Strikers in the US web eshop is something else.

GAME DETAILS
Psikyo Revival! Play the arcade classic!

A revolution broke out in shooting games in 1995. The Japanese brand "Psikyo" introduced a new enemy's attack, "Spread bullets" not seen before then, and the history of a new shooting game began.

If you are a shooting game fan, "Psikyo shooting" that everyone knows is revived! Shoot!

I guess you are ignoring their recent PC releases?

Which wouldn't have happened if not for Degica pushing for more content like that on Steam and helping them out with publishing. Hell, even the Xbox 360 ports like Saidaioujou only happened because Microsoft helped pay for the development costs.

They are just using 3 or 4 people to port the Xbox 360 code, these aren't fresh ports specifically tailored to pc. And as a result they are not even as good as the ports they are based on in a lot of instances.

So yes, Cave are now primarily a mobile phone game producer, they shut down the console development division four years ago and guys like Makoto Asada jumped ship. If any of their games come out on other platforms then it will be with the help of external companies, they don't have the capacity to do it by themselves anymore.

ZeroDiv seems to be a company that hasn't done anything major, except for some lowkey acquire games and the website wasn't updated since 2015. Really interesting to see this coming out of nowhere. Also the Penguin Wars game. Wth?

Bought gunbarish!

It's fun even if the visuals are a fucking mess. I can barely see some things.

I played it vertically, with the screen on my belly against a coffin lol. That works!

It's a shame they don't let you reverse use the vertical control buttons when the joycons are plugged actually, cause i tried and well.. i would totally play it like that, vertically, with the joycons attached to the screen. it seems the best!

Namco Museum doesn't let you rotate the controls with the screen either. I imagine Nintendo don't want the Switch held like that with joycons attached.

Would still like the option though.

I would have thought with its weight it would be bad but i tried and it feels super comfortable actually

Excuse me?

edit: and I know I am just going to have to accept that "portrait" is what it will be known by. It is a stupid battle to fight otherwise, but goddamn does it give me heart burn to call it that.

That's what they have it labeled in the options screen :)

Sounds a bit silly to call it 'tate mode, right?

I know. I know. It's fine. I'M FINE.

Though your use of apostrophe gives the impression that it has been shortened from rotate? Which is not the case, it is the Japanese tate.

Thanks for the correction, I'm not quite versed in the lingo, but that was my guess to what i remembered sounding the most natural. So it's actually not pronounced "tate" like the english spelling then I imagine, didn't realize that.

FWIW in pretty much all spoken conversation I'm probably gonna say 'taet' as well, just because that is how I heard it growing up so it sounds the most natural. But the proper pronunciation should be 'tah-te', though I'd never correct someone for saying it one way or the other. Just seemed a good opportunity to point out that, from our current understanding of poorly documented early arcade terminology so take it for what you will, is it was always Japanese tate and best guess is the ro-tate thing comes from Westerners unfamiliarity with Japanese.

Kind of annoyed they only put these on sale in the japan store, wtf, everyone else can fuck off I guess. I know it's 7.99 but in their store it winds up being like 4.50 USD. If you're gonna do that, do that for all territories.

Edit: I know I can just buy it from there, but I'm weird I like everything linked to one account. In the event something breaks I'm not swapping multiple accounts over

Xevious is on 3DS and the game is probably worse than you remember.

I have Xevious on just about every single system it was released for, sometimes in multiple forms.
And no, I can still play it all day long actually, same with Elevator Action 1.
It's still as brilliant as it was back in 1983 when I first fell in love with it.

My god Strikers 1945 is fantastic. It's considerably better than any of the aca NeoGeo shooters released so far.

I can't believe how good it looks too.

^ Nah. It feels a bit weird playing with the Joycons, but that's due to the lack of a d-pad.
When playing with a Pro controller it's clear that the game plays pretty much perfect.
Can't wait to finally get the Hori RAP stick soon.

Yeah, Psikyo was something special. Strikers 1945 II is also brilliant.
And just wait till they release Dragon Blaze. :)

I went and bought them both and they are very fun. I just tilt the tablet on a cup and it seems to work fine for me. I totally stink at Strikers 1 and I haven't played these games in a while. I used to be able to get to level 5 or 6 on one-credit in Strikers 2 but that was in like 2003 lol. It's just a shame Strikers doesn't show up in the Activity Log or anything but that's just me.

The Switch certainly seems to have the potential to beat out the 360 for an ideal shmup machine and I really, really hope it continues.

Yo, if you set controls to "rotate" you can play in TATE with the 'cons attached.

The "bottom" controller moves you, both the analog and the "dpad" and the "top" controller is the buttons.

Its not ideal, but it works!

Cool, thanks! Gonna' pick up both games.

Is 19XX ever coming out? I'll be sure to check this one out as well but that's the game I threw many a quarters at.

European release PR. They're up now.

I loved Strikers 1945 to bits in its arcade heyday, but golly, they did not invest in a minimal localization/copy-editing pass over the eShop blurb.

Glad to see support for vertical orientation; it's a bit stand/accessory-dependent on the hardware side, but that could be a worthwhile investment if the shmup library on the Switch continues to grow. Imagine if we get Ikaruga like that someday.

ZeroDiv has confirmed they'll be brining more arcade games to Switch! Start you wishlists!

Awesome...The Switch is awesome for portable arcade emulation. I'm loving the ACA and Namco games, and now this? I find what puts the switch above other portable emulation options is the ease of use thing, the controller options and the fact that it also has lots of other big budget newer games and indie stuff as well.

Finally getting around to checking this out proper. I know it was mentioned earlier that it looks similar to Hamster's Neo Geo output, but I didn't realize it was identical. This has to be the exact same emulator, though it does look like they've done extra work with the added UI bits.

This does have me concerned that the audio delay will exist here as it does in Hamster's releases. I know people have a hard time hearing it. Can anyone confirm? I'll probably just have to buy it to know for sure.

edit: I'm talking about this.

If it's the same emulator (in the sense of shell I mean), they sure ain't using the same filter options, for Gunbarich at least...but Gunbarich doesn't appear to be straight emulation in the first place.

Like a lot of the assets are high res now, there's a bunch of old stuff left over of course, but a lot of it looks brand new, like either redrawn or from original artwork maybe (and not just some fancy upscale).

Strikers 1945 and Gunbarich run on different Psikyo arcade hardware which is completely unrelated to the MVS. If it was the same emulator then both these and the Hamster games would have to be using a licensed version of mame which we know is not the case condidering the various issues with the ACA emulation.

Right. Shell running different cores would be a more accurate way of putting it. I wouldn't be surprised if some emu dev is licensing out to various companies.

I'll download and check it out. My Switch's battery is completely dead so letting it charge up.

Edit: Cool. No audio delay in Strikers 1945. Double checked the ACA stuff to make sure my ears and eyes did not break. Nope. Delay is still there. Thumbs up, Zerodiv.

Edit2: Gunbarich sounds good too. Can't speak to the overall emulation as I'm not super familiar with these games but seems pretty solid at first glance.

I hope as many SHMUPs as possible get ported to the Switch. They're perfect for portable play. I've loved playing this and all the ACA shooters.

Hoping for Karous, Radio Allergy, Under Defeat, Ghost Blade and Chaos Field ports in the near future.

The vertical option doesn't work anymore for me -__- it worked one time lol! Now when i unplugged the joycon, the button mapping doesn't change and i can't use buttons at all actually.
