What happens when someone uses a PG? :O

Wouldn't it just be a matter of size? It would actually be a huge disadvantage in one on one fights, since the mech will lack manoeuvrability in the environment, and be a huge walking target. Not to mention the issue of cost. If you lose with a HG model and a few parts get broken, that's a few bucks worth of replacement parts, or 15-20 bucks for a new model. If you fuck a PG up, that's going to be really costly, especially since for smaller units to take down a PG, they'll probably have to wreck it into pieces.

Conceptually, I think the issue of cost is the main reason why 1/144 kits are the ideal balance for most participants. There's also the fact that if you're going to customize your gunpla, that scale gives the widest range of options.

So what you're saying is... GBF is pay2win.

Go bigger.

A shop that sells eyeglasses near me has that huge Zaku II, albeit a slightly different one. They also have a RX-78-2 Gundam of the same size. The Zaku II at the shop is wearing a monocle.

Episode 4 was fun. The main fight was pretty one-note for a while, but the end was awesome. Great music there, even though the idol song is appropriately terrible.

I kind of love that
this is the sort of world where prospective dreamers have to fanatically study Gunpla in order to become a top idol.

Am I remembering wrong, or did the end refer to horse-riding dude from the OVA?

I don't think Build Fighters has anything to do with Gunpla Builders storywise. It's set like 50 years later.

Ah, I double checked and I confused Meijin with Gundam Meister Boris Schauer. The OVA was kinda forgettable except for Beargguy, so I didn't really remember names.

Speaking of which, still waiting on that Beargguy-san. Probably not gonna show up until episode 6 at this rate.

LOL, Gunpla is serious business.
Gotta give up dem last names to become the the true Gunpla master or something like that, lol.

Can't wait to see the SD Gundams come into the show soon. :D Still have to build my SD Perfect Strike...

The "meijin" just refers to their master, presumably someone who Adam works with at PPSE. But the specific use of the term is probably also a pun which pays homage to Katsumi Kawaguchi, better known as Meijin Kawaguchi - the master gunpla builder who eventually got a job in Bandai and works directly in their Gunpla devision on development and promotion.

This episode was pretty hilarious, and it was awesome seeing the Gerbera Tetra animated.

Also, Ramba Ral is EVERYWHERE

Of course, in these types of shows the game is always hilariously one of the most important things in the world.

I remember an episode of Yugioh where one of the bad guys looking to conquer the world said he needed to control the three more important things in that world, "politics, financial markets and card games"

EDIT:
next week! EXCITE EXCITE EXCITE

Gundam Build Fighters Episode 4:

At the very least this certainly is the second most visually impressive title this season, Second only to Kyousougiga. I really do love the Gunpla battles as they are works of art in motion. Anyway, this is probably the worst episode thus far mainly because of some truly harem show worth love triangle bullshit.
I am glad that all the Kirara fangirling over Gunpla and her hanging around Sei was just one tactical ruse to win the match and win the tournament.
Okay, I have to ask, do idol singers actually enter into second jobs basically to further their careers? I want to call bullshit on this, but I legitimately do not know enough about the idol scene to do so. Anyway, I think the reason Kirara fails as an idol is is her song is pretty disgusting trash, but then again, this is pop music. Also, I have a feeling glasses girls is going to become the biggest heel in Gundam Build Fighter as she is trying to interfere with The One True Pairing.

Meijin makes me think of 16-Shot Takahashi Meijin of Hudson Soft shooter fame.

I don't know anything about actual gunpla, but it'd probably be neat if that Kawaguchi dude made a cameo.

Haha this is AOTY for me easily, so good. I loved that Mihoshi dressed somewhat like Marida during her sabotage mission. This show just makes me want to build Gunpla that i'll never be able to take into real battles.

As soon as Sei said "Reiji, slot 12" i hoping he was going to follow it up with something cool like "destroy her" for fucking with his livelihood. Ramba Ral is hilarious.

I wonder what the upgrade from the Strike will be for the World Championship.

I just got back from Disneyland. Missed Gundam on TV this evening..
Guess it's time to use a VPN on youtube.

Good episode, I take it?

I hope that Iori sits Reiji down and makes him watch some Gundam shows at some point, maybe have him build a GM. Having Reiji develop and understanding of why these folks are so into Gunpla outside of just battling would be cool.

I think Reiji needs more fundamental education about their world first. He doesn't even know what a school is.

You know, I've had this thought in my mind that this was set in 2061. I was even sure I read it in a description somewhere. But now that I check the official site, it just says "near future". I thought about it a bit more, and it seems I confused it with Galilei Donna, which takes place in 2061. My brain is all messed up. FML.

I've always assumed that Build Fighters takes place relatively close to 2013, seeing how Unicorn is the most recent series in their universe.

edit: It would be kinda cool if there was a "fake" Gundam show within the show.

Build Fighters Episode 4

This show has no business being this good.

That last portion of the fight with the booster part was great, especially the music.

Idol song was hilariously awful though.

This is what happens when you watch Galilei Donna.

Watching this show while also catching up with Valvrave has provided me the perfect mecha balance of earnestness and nonsense.

Wow, GBF is so AWESOME!! Lovable characters, humors, fast flowing stories etc. 4 episodes and still going strong. Way to redeem yourself, Bandai.

Weakest episode yet, all these random characters no one cares about interrupting the true stars of the show made things a bit hard to watch
especially considering the payout could have been avoided. Surely she ought to have pryed more into the backpack or something while sitting their with the strike instead of chitchatting with whats her face. Thankfully Sei left her in customer only status so I could breath a sigh of relief

Vocal song was good even if it could barely be heard.

Did he honestly say listen to me soberly? Is that really the translation?

The silhouettes should all be supporting character battles during stock units. There are 8 in total.

So far we've seen:
- Gyan
- Sumo
- Gerbera Tetra

That leaves:
- Tallgeese
- SD Knight Gundam
- Abigor
- Apsalus III
- Kämpfer

This is such an awesome show. Granted didnt get to see any GMs in action but at least there was a bunch of talk of the various models for a little while in Ep 04! :D Esp the mention of my personal favorite the GM Command.

Gundam Build Fighters - 05
Ranba Ral should go to jail.
Always hanging out to children, taking them to bars, and now he breaks into their houses while they have mind battles?

I don't really like the new kansai kid..

Best ep so far.

Also, I just realised that Sei is a huge SEED fanboy. And that makes me sad.

Double also, I bought the Build Strike in Singapore because of this show. I didn't buy the Amazing Zaku because Zaku a shit.

Triple also, if I put a HG Unicorn Gundam into the battle simulator, would it let me switch between modes? Because the HG's can't do that.

So glad for the time change, I could see it right as its added instead of days later. Anyway, Reiji and Sei's bed scene was the best part and really pumped me up for them to just go ahead and take on all challenges.

Had a good laugh at the power of imagination going on
and to think even Reiji was able to step in there, felt predictable when I thought no way would Strike just be destroyed like that especially after he was so impressed by it. Looking forward to an official battle

Probably the best episode yet at highlighting reasons why people Gunpla and such, Id probably side with Reiji on just battling if I was in universe...than recreating anime scenes (diorama)

Wing Fenice and X Maoh looked awesome in this episode, especially with the Wing Gundam intro call back on the Fenice head zoom in sequence. Oh man, controlling Plavsky particles...? Shadow Gunpla battling. Ral with that classic line. And Italian dude almost pulled using an HG Victory model.

Dis show xD

I just realized how evil this show is. Build Strike's new rifle is actually included in the HG kit, but it's grey in the kit instead of white. After this episode, everyone's going to need to actually paint the rifle to make it accurate. LOL.
