This is a good day.

I hope Yuuki Hayashi back as composer for S2, the OST is bloody amazing.

And Reiji definitely will wear mask for S2, they totally setting up for that lol

I'll probably check it out on there then, thanks.

There will be a blu-ray soon though, right?
A Japanese Blu Ray release is happening but with no English options. With Bandai Entertainment gone, nobody knows when or if it'll be brought elsewhere.

The first scene should be the new protag just finishing the last episode of GBF S1 on Youtube before he LOOKS AT HIS OWN GUNPLA WISTFULLY.

Cue opening credits.

Aoty 2015 already on lockdown. Thank you based sunrise. Mr. Ral and old pervert gunpla master dude old man gunpla adventure oav plz.

Just take your pick from these Sunrise great 2nd halves:

Seed Destiny
Code Geass S2
00 Season 2
Second half of Tiger and Bunny

etc etc,

Cautiously optimistic is how we should receive this news. Do you know if all these shows have their timeslots changed? I know 00 and Geass S2 did, and figured their change in direction/pacing was due to it

I know Geass went from late night to prime time, but I thought 00 was always a prime time TBS/MBS show?

Outside of just generally being wary about sequels to anything as a rule, which isn't restricted to Sunrise...I don't think any of those cases are particularly relevant to what could possibly happen here, to be honest, considering the circumstances and subject matters are largely unrelated. Gundam Build Fighters has a simple, unambitious plot with likable characters that safely plays to what people want to see and the true focus is still showcasing the robot fights. As long as they don't try to make it into a standard Gundam story, with all the good and bad that implies, there's not much of a risk involved. If anything, the most radical shift I expect to see is a mostly new cast of characters. Otherwise, the guy who wrote all of 00 also wrote GBF but his approach clearly wasn't the same.

Likewise, I will say that the respective positives and negatives of those previous examples vary greatly. The only one of those sequels that I'd actively tell people to not watch would be SEED Destiny. Well, that and the last arcs of Gundam AGE, which you didn't mention but are essentially sequels by design. The rest can be divisive and controversial enough at times, yet it's far from impossible to say anything good about them (despite what the harshest individual viewers might think, it's possible to come around to honestly enjoy parts of 00 S2 and Geass S2 for instance). Either way, in spite of not having the opportunity to talk much about Gundam Build Fighters here during the original broadcast, I'm quite alright with the prospect of more of the same.

It may be digitally composited but much of it is still hand drawn

It's the end result that I don't like as much, it just looks too clean and the movement is too precise that it makes it stand out to me. It's totally trivial and not a big deal it's just a preference thing. I still think the end result looks great btw, the fights in Unicorn were really enjoyable to watch.

This show was really fun, had a nice number of kickass battles and is more proof that being "child-friendly" doesn't mean a work has an excuse to be mediocre.

I really look forward to another season!

Give me more of the best character:

NIELSEN NIEEEEEEEEEEEELSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN

When I first heard this show was announced I initially wrote it off like AGE.

Seeing the unanimous praise here has me thinking that I may have missed something.

Indeed. It was nothing like AGE. It was an ode to Gundam fandom, and Gunpla. Luckily, you can watch it right now in it's entirety on YT.

I did the same but got around to watching some and I just couldn't get into it after five episodes.
Could not stand the main character.

Stick with it. It gets really good, and doesn't let up for the most part. The first several episodes are slow. Once they go to the Gunpla tourney, things pick up considerably.

Nils changing moniker from EARLY GENIUS SAMURAI BOY to SUPER GENIUS KENPO KAN.

And of course he's freaking chairing the new Gunpla tournament. Moving on up Nils!

Just got into this earlier this week even though I don't have much Gundam experience. Really enjoying it right now! Really digging the lighthearted tone and the battles have been awesome so far. Just finished episode 15 and love Ricardo Fellini.

Also the soundtrack is killer.

Does Sunrise have a good track of "season 2"s tho

I loved Seed Destiny
or at least the final few episodes when Kira became God again
, and Code Geass S2 rocked hard. 00 S2 had some great moments too, splattered across inconsistence and bullshit.

But then again, it is all worth it for the music alone. I mean...Ignited > any other Seed opening. And the endings were glorious as well.

Well, that's... something.

Don't overthinking for the S2 expectation, the only thing this would totally destroy me is if they shifted to CG for the mech.

I generally have not liked Sunrise second seasons, so I am not setting my hopes too high. However, I did enjoy Build Fighters and am looking forward to the second season.

It's easy to be cautiously optimistic about a second season simply because there's not a lot of loose storylines from the first season to screw up. Just throw in some new characters, establish some new problem, add a bunch of mecha fanservice and we're good to go.
