Episode 1

So far, this has all the things I liked about the previous series. It's not just the great fights, it's the tone finding the right balance of, "This is a fun toy for people to play with," and, "This is a serious, important battle as vital as any fought with fists." We're in a school with two clubs devoted to Gunpla. Sekai mocks them as toys at first, but before too long he's diving headlong to the ground to save his adopted suit from hitting the floor. If I ever had any doubt, once he's using obscure martial arts techniques on his opponents through the medium of plastic models of anime robots, with the music raging and everyone looking on in awe, I knew I was in the right place.

The real test will be how the character dynamics work out over the long run, but I like the idea of a more central female character with a sincere love for Gundam and Gunpla battling. Definitely speaks better to the diversity of the fanbase than the previous series.

I do like how they are already Sekai Kamiki a distinct identity with the martial arts gimmick and the big sister.

Gundam Build Fighters TRY 1

Here we go!

Just caught up with Season 1 the other day and loved it. Overall, a very solid first episode that was mostly similar to last season's, mostly by setting up the characters. I like Sekai, but hope he evolves past being Reiji MkII. Although his martial arts background (his master better be
Mao
I don't care.) and his big sister go a long way in doing that.

Also, Ral returned

God's in His heaven, all's right with the world

Yeah I think one thing the new season has done really well here is that the characters all feel like they're actual characters instead of just carbon copies of personalities which existed in the first season. The character dynamics here seem fairly different from the stuff we saw previously, and presumably they're meant to play into the team-based tournament format in this season, so it should be fun if they keep at it.

I'm in tears I'm so happy with how that episode went. I have to say I didn't forsee that ending at all. Really great start to the season so far.

I wonder how many episodes until we see Sei again. Or will he be the surprise final boss ala Pokemon Gold/Silver

He's clearly the senpai that our lead female girl is trying to battle with so I imagine they won't battle until the end

Episode 1

God damn this is just as incredible as last season, looking forward to more hot blooded gunpla action.

lol this pic is just awesome

First episode was great. Hoping we get a burning finger instead of super punch though. Also here's hoping that his rival uses a custom Spiegel Gundam.

Episode 1

Picking up right where they left off. So, so good. I like all the characters so far.

That Build Burning reveal and the G Gundam reference was nice. I'm going to miss that GM as well.

Also was that a Sinanju Stein at the very beginning?

Episode 1
I got a huge smirk seeing that giant Musha Gundam Mark 1, seeing as I have one myself. Battle was pretty good for just an opener. I'm looking forward to season 2 unless it gets stricken by the second season turning super dark curse.

Also, maybe its just me but Sekai's hairstyle just ripping off Reiji.

Oh shit I hadn't noticed this. I guess this season will be the same with me seemingly missing a bunchf of stuff like last time. Thank you DS hahaha.

Sheittttt

we're G-Gundam sequel now?

This is what I was hoping for this entire time. I can't wait, it's going to be so good. All it'll be missing are the hilariously stereotypical culture based Gundams.

Wait people hate G Gundam? What manner of bullshit is this?

Yeah the Build Knuckle is bullshit, but it reminds me more of SEED than G Gundam as far as it appears anyway.

People with awful taste do! Also, the Build Knuckle didn't have as good an impact as the Burning Finger. No awesome line like this hand of mine is burning red etc. Hoping Build Burning Gundam does the signature move too.

Off to a great start. Ending was so good. The new boy sounds just like reiji, but I like that they went with a full-on martial arts (and "normal" human) this time around.

I don't think he's entirely normal. He must have some special connection with the Plavsky like Aila did, because he did the same "particle wind" gimmick Reiji used to overwhelm Aila's sensitivity.

Or maybe that's just his burning heart.

By far the best part. Dude is just randomly walking by the goddamn club room. DOES HE HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH HIS DAYS? HAS HE NOT AGED AT ALL?!

And no one cares! No one's like... this old dude spends way too much time around our kids. They're all just "Yep, Ral-san is doing his thing again!"

The twist is that he is a ghost and only true hot blooded Gunpla fighters can see him

So far so good. I'm not sure how martial art skills translate to uber piloting skills though. At least in G Gundam, Domon uses actual body to move his gundam.

01

Ugh, I can already tell I'm not going to enjoy this season as much as the first. MC comes off as the atypical genki girl that so many female MCs in anime end of being. They couldn't even wait one episode before they made it obvious her and Reiji2 are going to be a couple by the end of it by going for the tropey "Ahh I fell on you and now we're both blushing!" Oh look Reiji2 just did at least 4 asspulls on his very first battle. Oh look Yuuma is the cold blue haired rival character!

Gundam designs show thus far are pretty damn lackluster as well.

Overall a complete misfire of a first episode compared the the first season. Sadly I don't think this will improve much based on the preview. How can both gundam shows this season be so god damn bad?

Everything about Ral kills me at times. That no one at all questions his very presence save for the one time by China last season is crazy. This is what he'll be known for now. Not being the badass Gouf pilot in MSG but the strange, potentially stranger danger guy that shows up and drops unrequest and maybe unwanted wisdom out of nowhere and is never question about it. How is even allowed on the school grounds!? He's had more screen time in Build Fighters then the show he's a reference to. Has that ever happen before?

I enjoyed the first episode a lot. Glad they got right into things as well. Was hoping he'd win in the Dom though.

Episode 1

[Gundam Build Fighters Try] - 1

Funny, this is how I get all my friends to watch anime!

I actually enjoyed this opening considerably. It was highly entertaining and the fun and whimsy from the original was present. Wahoo! Try to remember this positivity because I'm going to engage in some criticism which some of you may consider to be nitpicking but I only do this because I turly love GBF.

When most people think of GBF the first thing that probably comes to mind is really well animated, well choreographed and exciting fight sequences. However, the original show couldn't have survived on the back of those two ideas alone. It could have simply been a beautiful but hollow marketing exercise in the guise of a TV show. What's worse, it would be a kids TV show! Yet that didn't happen.

Through the grace of decent writing and direction, the core cast of GBF were all extremely likeable and the show celebrated Gundam while still poking fun at it. It featured two leads who actually featured their own distinct arcs and roles ensuring neither of them were redundant. It was even pretty funny!

Now, it's too early to say anything substantial about the quality of the script or scenarios in Try but there a few things that I'm not wild about. First and foremost, the original series was extremely confident and sharp in terms of it's writing, editing and direction. It trusted it's audience to keep up with what was going on and it didn't meander and waste your time. This first episode of Try feels just a tad too slow for my liking, especially with regards to 'How Gunpla Battle Works' sequence which was handled more deftly in the original. This isn't a major indictment of the show, I just wish it was as quick and punchy as the original show.

In addition, I wasn't too fond of the amount of time we spent in school doing school stuff. I know, I know, we're one episode into the show so it's too early to complain about that but the whole "we must save our club" thing is a little overplayed. The original series had a battle-tournament structure but within that structure still found room to be unconventional and creative every episode. You never knew what you were getting. I hope they can keep that freshness up here as well.

In addition, as the workshop and the battlestation are in school I imagine we'll be spending more time here than last season, where Sei's shop served as a base of operations. Basically, I don't want to spend too much time "in anime highschool". Of course, that might not happen and as soon as the introductions are out of the way it might get as varied as the original.

I'm still not in love with the character designs. This episode didn't have particularly good character animation anyway, but Fumina just looked kind of awkward. Sekai looks like a rough draft of Rei, the kind that the designer came up with before he settled on a final design. Blue haired dude is blue haired dude from every anime. Ehhh.

The characterisation, however, seems fine. Sekai does seem a little too much like Rei, except without the quirkiness, but we'll see the dynamics play out as the show progresses. I really won't even attempt to speak to them yet. Except to say that this kind of scene:

]

is something I really don't want to see. One of my favourite parts of the original was seeing all the (obvious) romances play out in their own unique and fun ways. People falling on each other isn't fun, it's lazy and stupid. I can only hope there's no terrible love triangle business.

While the climatic battle sequence was extremely, extremely cool and exciting I don't like seeing super powers in the very first episode of the show. The original series escalated slowly over the course of the series until we hit the point where every fight ended with that God damn knuckle so to see them skip straight to the finisher makes me concerned. I imagine that the team aspect of the battle will actually change the dynamics of combat significantly so that we don't end up with that problem, but we'll have to see. Basically, my favourite kind of combat is ground-based mecha combat. My favourite battle in any Gundam is the street level fight in 08th MS Team and the best battle in the original series was Meijin vs the Snipers. Both of these battles are grounded and feature fairly down to earth weaponry. Hopefully there'll still be a place for this kind of tense, tactical combat in this series because super powers get boring quickly.

Anyway, I remain extremely hopefully for the series and this first episode was far better than I expected. I just hope that the show becomes as confident and unusual as it's predecessor.

It was all planned. The "G" moniker for G-reco was just a diversion. This is the real "G Gundam" spinoff story!

All hail Tomino.

First episode was so good. SO GOOD.

Sekai is pretty Reiji right now but I do like the Ranma/Domon/Martial Artist slant. I like Fumina already as she's different from Rinko and China, Plus she's the gunpla nerd that we need. Yuuma looks angsty in the first ep, lol. Mirai is pretty awesome too.

I had to laugh at that last set of events though. Sei giving shoutouts to Ral was awesome.

oh man gbf is back to save us

mirai and fumina waifu materia

also mr. ral knows what's up. sneaking around schools for the goods

also the music at the beginning when Fumina's GM gets shot up; is that supposed to be a riff on white reflection or is that just me.
