The level of self-awareness is pretty amazing in this show, it appeals to me so much more than the brooding self-seriousness of the past couple of series.

Episode 2

Oh man, I'm really going to miss Ral's voice when they do the switch. Hope the new guy doesn't sound too different. >_<

I like the different momentum the new series has compared to the first. It keeps the show refreshing, and introduces new character dynamics to play with. It's nice to see a protagonist who is earnest, direct, and capable. Of course being a kids show, he's also a total klutz at anything other than the fighting itself, but that's okay too!

Kinda sad to see that Yuuma turned out to be the scrub instead of the team carry. Lolz. So much for haly's theory! I wonder if the guy who wiped the floor with him will show up later. Would make for a good character milestone for him to defeat the guy and exorcist his past demons.

Fumina's swimsuit battle costume is fucking stupid, and every time it shows up in different forms in the OP and ED I cringe. Awful design. The one lame thing in an otherwise outstanding sequel so far!

Gundam Build Fighters Try Episode 2:

Whatever dark gods they are making the ritual sacrifices to in order to maintain the quality of this show they need to keep up. After a bit of over-dramatization of the Gunpla match, we finally have our first trios match, kinda since the Gunpla Battle Club was short a few members. Anyway, this was some good shit, showcasing the potential of the dynamic range that trios match may give us this season. Seriously, this was one of the best matches this series has ever held and we are just getting started with this season. Also nice to see they are aware of the popularity, and his inexplicable Gunpla powers aside, they have actually formally given him the role of mentor and coach this season.

New detail for this season, the Gunpla matches now have adjustable damage, Chekhov that is a neat gun you have.

Also, we are on episode two and we already have some ship teases because it would not be Gundam with out them.

Nu-Reiji is a bit annoying. He's way too hyper. That said, the rest of the episode was great. The villain in the opening sequence reminded me of Ali al-Saachez from Gundam 00.

I fucking loved how Yu got roped into the team.

Yuuma is my least liked characters so far, but man I do feel bad for him getting trashed like that in the intro. that's the kind of stuff that give kids nightmare. lol

also, I really miss gbf tone of being light hearted while still being overdramatic and how gunpla battle is super serious business, lol.

It's mostly using the body of the Hydra Gundam from the Gundam Wing side story manga Dual Story: G-Unit, but the modder added the wings and beam scythe of Gundam Deathscythe Hell Custom and the dragon fangs from Altron Gundam Custom.

Here's a nice model kit of it. I'm amazed how good it looks considering how old the kit is. One of its sister units, Gundam Aesculapius, was my first model kit. A shame one of my younger cousins broke it.

All I'm doing is smirking watching the episode. I can't believe how great a start we are to this season! Feed me more G Gundam anything and im hook line and sinker.

I know that it's a different show taking a different tone but it felt a bit off. GBF featured similar scenes but it was always making fun of them or putting a new spin on the idea. The only time it played them 'straight' was much later in the show when it had actually earned the right for a little dramatic weight.
