The plot holes in the script were like Swiss cheese.
There was a lot of behind-the-scenes politicking, which prompted Favreau to give a big "fuck you" to the studio, but in retrospect we were the only ones who suffered.

Extremis is a virus that allows Stark to link his mind to his tech. He uses it to pretty much command nano machines in his skin to form the underbody of his suit at his will, as well as making the suit more responsible and making him more one with the suit (the virus also literally reprograms his organs into new ones). He used a reprogrammed version of the virus on himself to fight Mallen, a member slash test dummy of a terrorist group who stole the virus.
They likely won't do Mandarin, the only reason people are saying Mandarin is because of Ben Kingsley and the Chinese references, which could mainly just be setting. When Shane Black talked about IM3 last year, he mentioned how he still wanted to keep IM3 down to earth, and he used Mandarin as an example, saying "Mandarin? How would we do that? But I think we've found a villain that fits very well." I'm paraphrasing, but it really didn't sound like it was Mandarin. I'm on my phone, but YouTube Shane Black IM3 and there's a series of videos at some convention, during which he discusses IM3. This plus it being co-produced by the Chinese makes it increasingly unlikely to me it will be Mandarin. Wouldn't put it out of the question though.
Plus Firepower looks pretty badass in the comics right now. I just finished catching up on Invincible Iron Man. Wish I could find a picture.

I'd rather they do full on Armor Wars than Extremis, but it does sound like they're blending elements from both.
Hey now... Kingsley has Indian heritage, and he is fucking awesome. I'll gladly see him introduced into this universe.
Probably trying to avoid type casting. Ewan McGregor refuses to play roles that will develop sequels, other than Star Wars which he made an exception.
