Can someone explain to me what the difference is between the myriad of different hair styling products? How does one know whether to use a gel, wax, pomade, or any of the other number of compounds? Is anyone here stylin' enough to have any idea? robertsan?? :D

Pomade is ok thats what I use. After a while you get really tired of it though it pulls your hair as you comb it and unless you are sporting a pomp ( like me) you don't really need pomade. Which way are you doing your hair? (ie what style?)

Pomade isn't really like the others. Gel and wax are meant to "hold". Pomade just makes your hair look a bit more "worn", less fluffy/frizzy/whatever. You're really supposed to only use a tiny amount of it, though, so I suppose if you used more it might do the same job as gel/wax.

What's best if you want to slick your hair back?
For me Pomade..it gets really hard and holds it well. When Im not in the mood to do my hair up I usually just slick it back.

another negative of pomade is when it's cold its impossible to comb and if it gets hot it melts on to your forehead....

I don't use this for crazy spikes or anything, but it manages my hair well enough without making it greasy or anything. It smells amazing too.

I've tried some of the other Fructis stuff and like it well enough when my hair isn't too long, it's just when my hair gets longer it's not enough to hold it up, I have pretty thick and heavy hair. I generally keep mine medium to short length, but I let it grow out and pretty much spike/messy it up as it gets longer. I've never seen this "Manga" stuff in the store though, I'll have to check it out, might just be up my alley - it doesn't make your hair feel like cardboard though does it? I've found the Fructis extra strong hold gel does that.

That website is pretty funny by the way! :lol

I like using a little bit of wax because it gives a lot of control without making your hair crunchy and stiff like some gels, and it's really good for the semi-messy look I like.

The waxes, puttys and pomades are more viscous, and offfer stronger holds and are longer lasting than gels. They also ten to work better with thicker, more, and curlier hair.

I have rather thick hair, I guess I should use pomade. Clean up must be messy, though.

Thats why I use that Garnier Manga head stuff. As my hair gets longer the volume gets rediculous, and it starts going curly. So it basically starts turning into a curly afro. I can keep it looking thinner and shape it however I want with this.

Oh and it doesn't make it feel like cardboard btw, but it will go quite hard if you use lots and twist them into spikes. You feel as though you could snap em. If you've just rubbed a bit in and done a once over on your hair, it stays in shape but still feels.. like hair. Some days I use lots. Some days I dont. I only use it more than generously at the fringe really.

Just shampoo like normal.

Yeah it can get hard if you use lots, but you should only use about the size of a m&m, peanut if you have longer hair. If ypu comb/brush out after it dries it leaves you with really nice looking and feeling hair.

What I use when my hair short (don't really fix up my hair when it becomes medium to above medium length) is gel to give it that wet and shiny kind of look, and then I use fructis wax because gel alone doesn't hold my hair up.
