Alright, I'm currently runnin' a p4 1.5ghz processor on an Asus p4t-e motherboard with 512megs of RDRAM. The board's old, the ram's obsolete, I'm pickin' up a whole new setup in the not-so-distant future...I'm pretty much done spending $$$ on this machine.
BUT...I wanna keep it as a 2nd box, if only to have a d/l~burn PC around. My last upgrade is a faster processor, mainly for file conversion and crap...and I want it as cheap as humanly possible.
I found a Celeron 2.4ghz for around $70 shipped, but from what I've read, that won't *actually* be a performance increase from my p4 1.5, because of the tiny cache (128 vs. an L2 256).
A Celeron "D" is available w/ an l2 256 cache, for around $75...but it's got a 533mhz fsb.
Here's the question:
What happens when you plop a 533mhz fsb processor into a motherboard that only supports 400mhz fsb?
Any help would be great...I know very, very little about cpu/mb compatibility.
