Half Life 2 coming to Xbox soon??

It wouldn't surprise me, but they wouldn't be the first place to take orders on something that didn't end up existing.

While I think HL2 can be done decently on the XBOX, unless they implement a more seamless method of loading in new data, it's gonna be worse than the DC version of HL1. This should be a next-gen deluxe console release on Xenon, IMO.

I can imagine load screens every 2 minutes instead of 5. Why bother ? HL2 isnt going to pull any decent sales as HL2 runs fine on most systems that arent carbon dated.

Unless they put CS:S on the box i dont think its gonna be inviting to many xbox users at all.

XBox is not worthy of this game. No way in hell will it look even remotely as good as most people are playing it on their PC's. Physics would have to be toned down as well, along with geometry, textures, shaders, more loading even (it loads like a bitch on my 1 GB, imagine 64 megs) and a control-pad instead of a mouse keyboard.

Add to the fact, probably no CS:S or HL2DM... I'd say start saving up for a kickass PC

I think it would sell pretty well even if it's released so close to Halo 2. Even though most of the reviews i have seen, from websites/magazines that have reviewed both games, have all agreed that Halo 2 is the superior game, there is always room for another great single player game. I don't see someone only buying Halo 2 just because it is the best out of two awesome games, If you like FPS's, you will get both.

Although a Half-life 2 Xenon launch game would be pretty damn cool. It really doesn't matter to me though cause I'll be getting it regardless of which MS platform it is destined for.

:lol :lol :lol @ entire post

I'd be bad ass if they just throw in the new DM mode from HL2, if they really stepped it up and released HL:S and CS:S with it that'd just be the the cat's pajamas. :)

Having seen and played HL2 I don't think it'd have that hard a time transistioning to Xbox. It won't look amazing, no, but it'd be pretty good I'm willing to bet.

It could be a decent port...

I doubt levels would be reduced in size anymore than they are. They are already extremely tiny...

Load times would be a problem, though, but at least there wouldn't be any stuttering problems.

the xbox can do HL2 easily. physics? gimme a break, like unreal engine games such as deus ex: invisible war or thief: deadly shadows didn't have physics. HL2 on the pc isn't all that graphically intensive.

if xbox can do doom 3, it can easily do HL2. about those load times though...

Yeah, the XBOX won't have any difficulty with the physics in HL2. I don't know where people got THAT idea. They really aren't even that far beyond the stuff that was in Max Payne 2 (which probably even had MORE objects that could be moved around in any one scene). The gravity gun simply puts those physics to use in a unique way. DXIW and Thief DS also made heavy use of physics (even though it didn't look as natural) while also using a unified lighting model and heavy usage of perpixel lighting (bump mapping, for example, is used on virtually every surface).

If XBOX is capable of a respectable version of Doom 3, there is no reason why it couldn't do an even better job with HL2. Framerate should NOT be a problem, if done right. The only issues really seem to be related to the large size of many assets. Those textures are quite massive and the PC version is already filled with heinous loadtimes. I still think they'll be able to pull it off...

I dunno if I'd call that Doom III port respectable...but...

However, Are tehre any screenshots showing similar scenes with and without DX9 shaders?

There have been several articles, here is my favorite:

I like it because it shows you the difference just by mousing over the screenshot.

Edit: As far as the Xbox HL2 port goes, why not just wait and see? Maybe it will be sooner, maybe later. Maybe it will turn out good, maybe not. A lot depends on how much effort is put into the port.

Only simple rigid bodies though - HL2 actually has a fair share of complex objects from the demos I've seen.

I think they'll probably release it on both platforms to maximize sales. They can really gussy it up on Xenon and mabye include TF2 if it's out by then.

The demos of Half-Life 2 suggest a heavier usage of physics than what is actually present in the game, though. The majority of the objects you interact with are rigid bodies.

So all that nifty destructable environment physics stuff has been downgraded? :(

Oh no, it's there, but those demos really led you to believe that it was something that would be used quite often. It doesn't really show up that often...

The most common usage is probably during the boat levels, where they are plenty of piers and other environmental objects that can be knocked over realistically. However, it didn't really seem to be heavily used during most of the other segments (at least, not that I can remember).

Crates, barrels, and other similar objects are what you will see the most of (by far).

Correct me if i am wrong, but doesnt HL2 use the havoc physics engine ?

Halo 2 also uses it correct ?

The physics in Halo 2 were great.
