Half-Life 2 on PS3: will it still happen?

I'm trying to decide if I should wait for the might-happen-might-not PS3 version of HL2, or just snag the Xbox version (though I'd prefer to play it in it's full glory, without having to buy a new PC).

Do you guys think it'll still happen? I know Newell said a while ago that they were planning on releasing it for the PS3 eventually, and the original was also ported to the PS2 despite being older than HL2 will be when the PS3 hits, but I'm wondering if the Xbox version will be the only console version we'll ever see.

The last major hope I have is that Aftermath is releasing this year, so a bundled release for PS3 in the Fall or early next year would still benefit from the hype/praise.

Thoughts?

If sony is serious about online and kb+m support (in game, obviously), then it has a good chance. I guess we'll find out at the Feb event, in regards to online and support.

I was originally going to say that HL3 has a better chance than HL2, but HL3 will probably be released 2010 and Valve put out tons of different versions of HL1. Hell, even PS2 got HL1. I'm not a PC gamer, so what does HL2 run on? PS3 supports openGL and something else right?

Wouldnt CS:S need constant patching? I doubt Valve will dedicate so much resources to a console game.

I could see HL2 Aftermath hitting both PS3 and 360, featuring the original game and new expansion pack or whatever the hell it is.

I hope they still put it on PS3/360 with Aftermath and what not. Might as well pack the original game in there as well. The PlayStation market hasn't seen it yet, so it would probally sell well. Same goes for Doom 3.

the xbox version is excellent I'm still amazed that they pulled off to port the game with so much quality in the audio and graphics, the bad framerate is almost only existant on the first level.

Why would you wait an entire year or two for marginally improved graphics?

Just got it last week and I'm also surprised how good it looks on Xbox. Possibly the best graphics on the console, especially with widescreen mode and anamorphic squeeze enabled on my standard def Sony Flatscreen. It's really an awesome porting achievement.

I wasn't able to force myself to play more then 10 minutes of the game with the framerate issues (I have it for PC so wasn't all that excited anyways). So only the first level is like that? You would think they would want people to like the game and keep playing - but that was an immediate turn off.

I finished it yesterday, and the framerate isn't bad at all (except when you arrive at city 17 and go outdoors for the first time, after you found barney) but after that I swear that the framerate got a lot better it rarely dropped to 20fps even in some taxing chapters like "follow freeman".
Like teddman says the graphics are mindblowing, almost all the shaders effects that I saw on PC are on this port, the textures of the walls and floors are probably the best that I saw on the xbox.

Gabe said that his junior programmers were working with the PS3 dev kit so they might be trying to port HL2 to PS3. Personally I don't think it's worth it, it's an imcomplete game anyway. Just buy the xbox version

They stuck it on the Xbox instead of the 360 because the Xbox already had the userbase. I can't see them bothering to release it on the Xbox 360 and likewise the PS3. I suppose an HDR enabled version that includes the Aftermath expansion might happen for consoles but I highly doubt it.

I strongly doubt that it will see release for the PS3. Especially after those comments made in that exclusive 1UP interview...

It would have been cool if it was released for the X360. Then we might have been able to get the Aftermath add-on through Live. Now, we'll most likely see a $30 disc like the Doom3 expansion.

I've already bought it over Steam, played it on my uber PC and finished it all the way through. Yet I'm still hoping it comes to next-gen consoles with the expansion add-on included.
That would be sweet, sweet, sweet to be sitting on my leather and tearing it up on a large HDTV with thumping surround sound with better graphics than it released with. Mouse and Keyboard support with the PS3, too. :)

I doubt it. Valve is slow as molasses.

I actually think Gabe is still loyal to MS and Gates. I don't think he would have a reason to release something on PS3.

What about HL on PS2.

Or me. :(

I'd just like a proper 16:9 non watered-down version of Half-Life 2 for the PS3 or 360. The Xboxen version sucks, thank you very much. I bought that shit when it came out and sold it back as soon as possible.

Just get it on pc, you would stupid not too. You get like 5 full games in one package(the EA one). Play it the way it was meant to be. If your pc really is that bad then get a new one and play more pc games that have bested everything on console the past year. You are missing out period.
