Half Life 2 preload has started.

All I get a is a blank green box when I try to start the preload...

At least some of you can actually see it or start it ;P

I preloaded while i slept. DONE! I gotta say, Steam is amazing in that regard. Any other place it would have taken me 15 hours to download a gig of anything. Steam serves it up in what...6 or so hours. Beautiful.

NOW RELEASE THIS SHIT SO I CAN PLAY

Found out how to fix my problem...DL'ing now.

Ok it's only been a few minutes and I have 12% so far...how big is this file?? I thought it was like a gig?

Says my current DL rate is 952.4 kb/s (That seems WAY fast)

k I downloaded the HLserver update. Which I thought was to register for steam. It appears that I am right but I have no idea what to do.
It says to open a DOS prompt. What's is a DOS prompt? I double click the hlsupdatetool and it doesnt do anything.

It says I'm to do this:
a) Open a DOS prompt.

b) Change to the directory where the HLDS Update Tool is installed.

c) Run the HLDS Update Tool with "-create":

>HldsUpdateTool.exe -create <username> <password> <question> <answer>

e.g.
>HldsUpdateTool.exe -create email@here.com comPlexPass "Your hint" "answer"

d) If the account is created successfully, you'll see the following output:

Checking bootstrapper version ...
Creating Account
Account Created successfully

e) Be sure to record your username, password, question, and answer for future reference.

So can anyone help me out with an explanation? Do I need to download something else first?

HLDS is the "Half-Life Dedicated Server" - I think you wanted something different :P

Try this instead. (Steam)

How about I feel sad, you feel old? Then you can actually teach me something. :)
DOS was the primary operating system that everyone used before windows 95 came along. text-based, no graphics whatsoever.

i'm so old.(

edit: if you want to see what it looks like, go to the start menu, click "run" and type in "command". now just imagine that that window took up your entire screen. that's DOS.
