Half Life 2 (XBOX) Screens

You skipped a great game because you refuse to support a system that gives the developer control [and protection] over their own content, and that also allows for the developer to add to and update their games at will? Sounds real smart.

And Halo 2 sure as hell doesn't stand well "above" this. Ever get a look at the Halo 2 face models?

WHY IS HIS LAB COAT GLOWING.

If it weren't for the low-quality textures on the character models, the game would look great. As a whole, if the game runs at a stable 30, they didn't do that bad a job considering the hardware.

:lol @ sporks.

Looks like a faithful port at medium PC settings. What's the problem here?

I'm pretty sure some of these textures are below the low setting on the PC.

Not that I'd expect anything else from the hardware. Not bad.

So why does it seem the comments for every 360, Xbox game is "It looks like crap" "Looks meh" I'm not excited" Then someone will post some crappy GC or PS2 tripe and people "Looks good" "This is going to fcking rule sales+1"

Beware, when PS3 launches any and everything betta be graphically mind blowing or It's going to get destroyed. Some of these 360 and Xbox games getting ripped look stunning. Kameo has come so far and is looking gorgeous. DOA is looking like it could end up being some the best graphics on the console at launch. I even think FCK has been judged harsh. GOW nuff said. It's not even a thing against Sony, but with all the BS comments about Xbox 360 you guys are setting the Rev and PS3 up for a hard fall. Well maybe not Rev because nobodys expects much. I hope Sony doesn't release any extremely early screens.

Gentlemen, I think we know which is the superior version.

Off-topic much?

This is about comparing a gorgeous pc game to a somewhat subpar Xbox port.

I haven't seen anyone saying gamecube HL2 is going to ownxxor Xbox

Hell, I played HL2 on my PC, and it looked worse than that, and I managed. You guys are fucking ridiculous. Some of the textures do look a bit "meh" but overall, for XBox, that's pretty good (if it has a solid framerate).

People were saying the same shit about screenshots of the Xbox version of Doom 3, and that turned out to be a pretty damn nice port. I'm sure it will be the same for the Xbox version of HL2.

If that second shot is PC I can barely see a difference. Not exactly a huge gap in detail.
Shots taken at 1600x1200 or whatever isn`t really a fair comparison.

I`m impressed.

What the fuck is up with those textures? Pretty much every one of em is ruined. Eww.

But anyway, I guess those that didn't get it for the PC can try and enjoy it on the 'box, even though the controls would be best on PC.

Retarded, that's all there is to it.

you barely see a difference??

whoa.

Some of you must have some pretty crummy monitors if you cant see how crap this looks. Jaggies, blurred washed out textures, low poly models. Half Life 2 on PC looked poor when not being played at a high res or with maxed AA, and this is faaar worse.

I think it has more to do with some of us understanding that XBox isn`t a 3Ghz PC.

Don't need a 3ghz pc. Those Xbox shots aren't even medium quality. I ran the game in medium quality the entire way and it looks much sharper than the Xbox pics. But the Xbox version does look decent for the hardware involved.

Boy, some of yall PC guys are acting like a bunch of bitches. Look, sorry your precious Half Life 2 is going to get played by Xbox owners.
Don't worry though, i'm sure it'll turn out completely unplayable just like Doom 3 did, right?

The orange stuff are reflections on the glasses. The stuff in that room shows some great effects.

I need to start hanging out on a forum where people actually enjoy games.

Did they really remove Counter Strike? Unlike RE4 this doesnt seem like a great port.

Hmmm. I'm fairly sure HL2 looks *worse* than this on my computer on all low settings, but I'd also say the textures and model details are also lower than the low-settings on my computer. So I guess there's some Xbox optimisation going on. To state the obvious. It looks good for an Xbox game though. I remember being pretty happy with HL and Deus Ex on the PS2 since I didn't have a comp that could play those at the time, and this looks like it might be a superior porting job than those were. So yay for Xbox owners, I guess.

I know nobody likes the word but I'd swear place holder textures are arbitrarily being thrown around on the current xbox build. I think Valve had a version with medium PC level textures up before but most websites complained the game was pretty choppy. Mayhaps they are trying to tinker it excessivly to get it running at a solid albeit less detailed clip.

The only reason I think this is becuase most of the backround textures look fine enough, especially in klieners lab there. It's just the textures on the combine's outfits that look really bad.

Also some dumbass mentioned the "why not 360?" comment. What makes more sence? finished an allready started port onto a console with a user base of 20 million+ world wide or spending a whole lot of extra cash and possibly another year making an xbox 360 version when even a year from now it won't have more then 3-5 million users world wide. I'm sure they are also planning on a 360 version as well on top of all this, wouldnt' be suprised it the 360 version comes with half life 2 + aftermath and CS source either with support for downloadable levels and such.

Much like how I also foresee a 360 version of doom 3 + it's expansion and 16 player deathmatch support or something. I'm sure some people would buy all of this stuff.

I think the textures on the wall and floor look pretty decent considering the hardware.

I also don't think it's very fair to judge this game, with a fair amount of natural environs, to a game like Doom3 which has very few natural settings IMO. In D3 there are less visual cues or reference points to everyday life.

Plus, D3 is a dark game on the PC and the Xbox.

Never played Half Life2 but man this looks pretty good on Xbox. I didn't read the first page to this but umm,is this releasing this year? Doom3 made for an excellent Xbox console game,Half Life 2 will probably turn out well to.:)

My computer can run HL2 at max settings no sweat, but I'm still buying this port. I like to support Valve; they make good games, and I would like to play this in a more comfortable environment.

Ohh good lord.

'Good lord' what?

Personally, I think Steam is shit. It's a bloated, buggy mess. I didn't go out of my way to tweak my PC just to have Steam park its fat ass in the background and suck up CPU cycles. :p More to the point, I think what Steam represents is shitty. As I've said in other threads, I want my games on media, in a box, with a proper manual. None of this 'download only' crap that Valve wants to make the new industry standard. I also want to be able to play them without having to worry about nonsense like online authentication. ('Look! I just bought a new game, but I can't play it yet because the release day crowds crashed the authentication servers!') I want to be able to walk into a store, buy my game in a box, get it home, put the disc into my console/PC, install (if necessary), and play. That's it. Steam's intended to make that arrangement 'obsolete', so I don't have any desire to support it with my money. I don't want it to succeed, because it means an end to how I like to buy and play my games. The Xbox version isn't forcing Steam on me, so I'm willing to purchase it.

Now is that justification enough for you, or do you have any more snarky remarks and obligatory eye-rolling to share with the audience?

As far as I'm concerned, it is 'real smart'. What would be stupid is if I supported something I personally dislike just because it makes life easier for developers. Unlike some people here, I can bring myself to pass up a great game over a matter of principle. There are lots of other great games out there. It's more important for me to vote against Steam with my wallet. If I'm expected to pay for a product, I have every right to insist on getting the kind of product that's best for me. I shouldn't have to accept a system that I feel is inferior to the current distribution model just because it makes life easier for the guys at Valve. As a consumer, that isn't my problem. Point blank, if Valve wants my money, they need to distribute their products through means other than Steam.

Is there still hope for a PS3 port of Half-Life 2, or will this likely be the only console version we see?

No hope. Don`t worry though, an XBox will cost you less than a PS3.

I already have a box, that isn't the problem. I was just hoping to enjoy this game with the level of visuals seen on the PC, but I've no intention of upgrading my PC just for this game (I have a very old, outdated comp).

Ah well, no choice I guess. Gotta go with this port.
