Half-Life 3 is in the Final Phase of Development – Rumour

According to Valve insider Tyler McVicker, a recent update to the Source 2 engine that powers Counter-Strike 2 has some indications of progress for the development of HLX.

According to McVicker, one key line of code in the update makes references to the thumper machines that we last saw in Half-Life 2 that can be used to drive away hostile antlions. The line of code is believed to be a direct message to dataminers, and has been taken as a sign that progress on HLX has been continuing at a steady pace.

The report indicates that progress on the project has been so good that the game is seemingly in the final phase of development. Another major update to Source 2 indicates that the game will make use of a new style of NPC scripting. Through this new system, whenever a player gets close to an NPC, rather than offering up canned voice lines or simple gestures, the NPCs will now offer more complex reactions. Datamining has indicated that this new feature being present in the recent update to the engine means that it might be close to finished.

Another leaker, Gabe Follower, has also indicated that Half-Life 3's development has progressed to the point where it is currently in the polishing stage. According to the leaker, developers at Valve have already started moving on to other projects since the majority of the work on HLX is reportedly finished.

The timetable for these rumours lines up quite well with a report from back in May that indicated that Half-Life 3 was internally playable at Valve "end-to-end". This means that, at the time, the core development work was completed, and that the studio was busy with other aspects of game development, which tends to include polishing up art assets, and figuring out game balance through vigorous playtesting.

I feel that "Half-Life 3 is coming soon, guys" has been said by these "leakers" for years now. Maybe I am crazy, but "soon" to me does not mean years.

It's been 21 years. Gabe has to leave off to retirement with a bang.

Although I have my doubts. They didn't do shit during the 20th anniversary of hl2.

It's like they would rather hl didn't exist and instead favor gaas BS and mobas or anything with micro transactions and not single player.

Valve has no need to make this anymore. They have 0 chance of remotely living up to the hype. The rumors of it and theories will be better than anything they can make.

If this thing is real and actually releases, they 100% need to release remakes of HL1 & 2 to coincide, it's been fucking decades, you're talking nearly 30 years since the first and 21 since hl2. If you were a teen when playing the first you'd be on the fast track to 50. I played the second in uni, and am in my early 40s. They need to introduce a new audience so they actually know what the fuck is going on.

They could include a 5–10 minute video at the beginning of the game to explain that
Also didn't Half-Life 1 already get a semi-official remake?

Lol, what?
It's like me going through my ex's trash and convincing myself that the way she arranged her used tampons is FOR SURE a sign that she's still madly in love with me... 😅

Black Mesa is a HL1 remake on par with an FPS from ~2011.

HL2:RTX is close to being a remake, but apparently it's only like two levels, and it's not clear if they're going to develop it further.

Btw, the fan-made HL 1 & 2 VR mods are legit, and they made me feel close to how I did when I played the games upon their original release.

It's been so long since I last played a Half-Life game, and honestly, with Half-Life 2 probably being my least favorite in the series, it's hard to feel excited about Half-Life 3. At this point, it's mostly just a meme. Even if it does come out, I'm not sure I'm invested in the story anymore.
I'd actually be more interested in replaying Half-Life 1, but rebuilt with a modern engine and updated mechanics. I think someone already did that, I think it was called Black Mesa. Guess I am all set.

There's 0 point in making half-life 3 at this juncture because it'll never live up to the hype and it'll be a complete disappointment. It should've been made years and years ago.

I mean, HL Alyx definitely lived up to the hype. Granted, that's in part because of how revolutionary it was as a VR game. But I have faith that Valve has still got it.

To repeat myself to match the repeating HL3 rumors:

My thinking is that Half Life 3 will be released when direct neural interfaces become a reality. Otherwise, I don't know what video games can do to live up to the insanely high expectations HL3 has.

So I did a little bit of digging and... well, I found something else. It's glorious, and a sign of what is to come for Valve.

Click at your own risk.. prepare for the beauty.
