Halo 2.5 packed in with X2 drives tsc tsc bomb bomb

Because most of the people will just settle for Halo 2 instead of buying a game at all.

I'm not sure why any one would do that for a brand new $300 to $400 system unless they are total idiots.

OK, so all the people saying 'OMG BS' ... would it be better to just have to pay for a HD with nothing on it?

It's better to have one standard set of features for developers to base their games on, not have them guess as to how many XBox 2 owners may own a hard drive.

Anyway, a Halo 2 launch for Xenon wouldn't be that big a deal for the system. We're not talking about say, Ocarina of Time, which at least had about 5 years to sit on a shelf before Nintendo gave it away for free. Microsoft's essentially asking everyone who bought Halo 2 and wants a Xenon to buy it *again*.

And that's if this rumor is true, which I doubt, because not even Microsoft would be that daft.

If this turns out to be true, it kind of gives you an idea of what the prices will be for the two XBOX2s.

XBOX2 with out HDD or Halo 2: DC = $300

XBOX2 with HDD and Halo 2: DC = $400 (they would probably have a discount if you turn in your old copy of Halo 2).

That is how I see it going down. Also if this proves true, you can forget the XBOX2 being backward compatible which for me doesn't mean anything, but for some I'm sure they would be pissed.

Seems Microsoft is taking a page out of Nintendo's book - when you don't have unique content to provide, re-release...and include the classic Mario Bros. game everytime, without fail.

Or Sony's book with GT4...

What a load. I don't plan on buying the next Xbox for some re released game I beat a month ago. Ofcourse theres more than likely going to be other good games at the consoles launch so the Halo milking isn't all much of a big deal to me. I think the industry is starting to sink to a new low if we indeed do see Halo 2.5 as the focus with the next Box launch. The Nintendo DS Mario 64 situation is already bad enough.

except that this story is BS and not true.

If true, I don't see how this is a bad thing. The machine comes with Halo 2(.5) built in? Great. Most people who are buying Xenon are probably going to buy whatever Halo game comes out at launch anyway. This sounds to me like they're trying to entice consumers to buy their console by giving away a free game. Money saved by consumer, more consoles sold by Microsoft. And I'd be willing to bet Halo 3 will be available within the first 9 months of Xenon's launch.

I'm the biggest Halo fan i know of, but you'll have to excuse me if i don't get excited about basically the exact same game with only slightly better graphics. What's the fuckin point? Give me new content or just don't bother. I love Halo 2, it's probably the most fun i've had with a game but a prettier bumpmap or shinier laser blast just aren't anything to get excited about.

Now if the game was completely redone using the full graphical ability of Xenon, that might get my attention. Maybe like $30 worth of my attention.

I can understand how it really isn't a bad thing if they are giving it away for free, but it amazes me how anyone could really get that excited about it.

Here's the newsposter FYI.

Wonder if Halo 2.5 users will be able to play online with Halo 2 users. It wouldn't be a bad idea to help bridge the gap between userbases.

I still think it's a bad idea to release multiple versions of Xbox, unless of course simple upgrades are availabel for those who buy the low end version.

multiple versions is happening, sony are doing the same thing. Whats not clear is whether the stuff in more expensive versions will simply be for 'extras' like Media Center, ingame soundtracks, etc or if it will improve the performance of the games. It's only splitting the user base if the extra functionality affects the way the games are played, i doubt it will.

As for the H2.5 thing, it seems like it should be BS, but i dunno, TXB must know some pretty well connected people these days, maybe this is something they are revealing at GDC. If it is real i doubt bungie are making it.

If someone said 'Eternal salvation free w/ XBox HD!' someone would find something to bitch about.

Dude. What do you expect. Where's the missing Arc ange Gabriel level we were shown at E3? :lol

You just walk through the pearly gates...and game over. FU God and your lame ending!

yeah, believe it or not. my sources all but confirmed that the rumor about there being multiple versions of the xenon is indeed true.

from what i heard, apparently one will play only xenon games, and the other will play pc games, movies, tivo, and music, all that stuff. he gave off the impression that it was gonna be marketed as more of a PC kind of thing.

Wait so having Halo 2 enhanced at the Xbox 2 launch is a bad idea? :lol Don't buy it if you don't want to play it again. There will be other games. Correct?

Sounds good to me. If there is only one game that I want BC for, it'd be Halo 2. Port it over and problem solved.

With regards to the whole HDD thing, also a good idea. It's no different from what Sony did with PSX or Panasonic with the Q. It seems like the HDD and extras are there only for additional non-gaming functionality. It really is the best of both worlds, IMO. You can get your simple GC-like purely console device, or you can get your elaborate PC-like multimedia machine. Different features, but same core.

I don't see a problem with the PC/Xenon hybrid-in-a-box thang. If preliminary Xenon specs are true, it is going to have one hell of a CPU beast - I'd certainly pay $500+ for such machine at launch.

Read this quote again and understand why this idea is the most retarded thing in the world. MS wants people to get excited about the NEW generation, they're not going to do that by offering LAST generation's games. To combat PS3 hype they're going to have to show that their machine can make super-hot and exciting visuals to blow everything out of the water. Sorry, but this hokey H2.5 just won't be able to compete with 10000 centillion polygons per gyroscope.

I dont think they'd even have time to make halo 3 in time to compete with the PS3 launch the year after.

But if at this very moment Rare is working on PDZ, I could see the strategy: launch with halo2.5 to drive sales, have a highly polished PDZ to combat the PS3 launch next fall, and then Halo 3 whenever it's ready.

They may also have new games for the Xenon launch. Mabye.

Now when I think about it I'd rather have Perfect Dark Zero at launch and Halo 3 on the PS3 launch. That will hopefully give Bungie the time they need to actually include an ending in Halo 3.

Yeah, I laughed at the whole, gives players what they expected from Halo 2 line as well...

I think this could actually be possible, but I doubt Bungie is going to be doing this. Maybe MSG can get GearBox to screw the pooch on this one like the did the PC port.

I don't understand why in God's name Microsoft would split its userbase. I honestly think that would be the worst mistake they could possibly come up with.
An HD and non-HD model would be similar to what Sony did witih PS2, only not waiting half the system's life before releasing it.

Sho Nuff said:
This sounds retarded, but do Bungie have enough time to make an original Halo 3 for Xenon launch?
Well, if Halo 1 to Halo 2 was 3 years, and the technical difference between Halo 2 and Halo 3 would be much bigger than that... I doubt it. Unless they get sold to EA.
