Yes, they're considered a guest. Like Odysseus said you can play in unranked Matchmaking playlists or custom games.

no kidding. im in the same exact boat.

i had 2 friends over for some Halo 2 the other night and i made them take the bottom 2 screens while i took the top half. sucked for me, but torture for them.

i really want to play some Halo system link. cheapass friends need to buy some fucking games for a change!

Yeah, lots of people don't seem to know this. Additional players can also use their headset microphones when playing in any playlist if they have their own XBL account.
