Halo 3 Beta Video

I've got a rather important question.

In the weekly update Bungie mentioned the new "water" to be truly amazing etc. I was wondering if that leaked Beta footage still has the placeholder "water" or the real thing. (cuz it's not amazing at all, comparing to games like Far Cry)

Good question. Anyway, Crysis water>>>>>>>>>all.

Granted it's a shitty vid, but I didn't see any "flowing down and around objects" mentioned in the update either. I'd say it's still placeholder water, just with added splash effects.

It's the recent influx of juniors.

Not all Juniors are bad. Some of us actually contribute to the site with well-thought out responses. It's people like him who give us a bad name, but soon those people will be gone. So no worries, the GAF of old will be back to normal and your universe will be a safe-haven again.:)

In one of the more recent updates (I will link it if you would like me to), Frankie said to make sure and check out the water when you are playing the Beta. This, to me, says that the water will be much improved from the Alpha video we all saw. Granted, I doubt it's the final version, but I'm sure it will be something to definitely check out once in the Beta.

So, almost all of the reaction we read was positive, but there was some grumbling about the graphics. You can decide for yourself if you like the look of the game in a few weeks, and you’ll certainly recognize moments and areas from that footage. All three levels however, have undergone significant improvements since that footage was taken, months ago, including lighting, decorators, textures, and my favorite – water effects. I don’t want to overpromise here and set your expectations too high, so I am deliberately capping the type of language I use to discuss these improvements. A good example however, would be the water in Valhalla.

Yeah well, the engine Crysis uses is far ahead of everything, so Crysis *input effect* >>>>>>>>> all.

But the video of 7 minutes which you could download was good enough to see it was not impressing. But yeah now that you mention that flowing around objects, it should still be a placeholder.

The water is all shader work, so the Halo 3 engine (which is AFAIR an upgraded Halo 2 engine?) could display the same stuff. Theoretically.

Jesus Christ ... just suck it up and get over it.

have your revenge on the first real Killzone media.:lol
What? I'm just questioning a few things, the video was beta footage so it's not like the final result. Also, it was mp footage, and it could be possible (like R6: Vegas, GRAW) that the SP looks much better.

Well let's hope it's in the final version then.

Ill reserve final judgment when the game releases, since Bungie are fans of making sure everyone knows just how early a state their game is in every time they show it, but i wanted more since its supposed to be the biggest game of 2007. I mean i have a 120$ version preordered, hope its worth it.

Yeah, i mean, that's why I'm the only person to comment on how the water was 3D. Not only that, but the waves TAIL at the top, which I've never seen a game do before.

Oh, and in order to see the water you have to wait for an ideal view when he's driving the mongoose, but it was hard as hell trying to spot it at any other time.

So if most people don't even notice the water actually has proper waves this time, what makes you think the footage is good enough to see water motion around objects? Hell, people have a hard enough ****ing time trying to distinguish this from Halo 2 for some reason.

There must be some sort of contagious eye disease roaming around the internet. Possible side effects also include reading comprehension problems, specifically around understanding the term "BETA BUILD".

Seems that on May 11th, Microsoft and Bungie will be holding an exclusive preview of Halo 3 in New York and San Franciso. Just 5 days from the Beta release but I wonder what else they will be showing from the game?

Edit: Hopefully a release date :)

Showing the 3 maps, general weapon positions, giving us an outline of all the features available and how to use them.

Release date probably won't be out until E3, but I could be mistaken.

So you are saying they are gathering media in two major cities just to have a live version of the FAQ that Bungie will post just before the beta releases? It has to be more than that I would hope.

I actually wouldn't mind this myself, If we could get some video walkthroughs and what not before beta I would appreciate it.

well i thought that too, but it's probably a match between press in NY and press in San Fran... didn't they do the same thing with Halo 2 or something. I could have sworn someone did something like that once.

It's real. At least the fact that MS is holding a Halo 3 event that day in NY and SF.

Don't know if that image was actually included with the press release, however.

Wonder what they will be showing off, more multi-player stuff? Seems a bit pointless since it's 5 days before the actual BETA.

If anything I think it would be cool if on the last day of the beta it ended with "Finish the Fight" then the release date on your TV. Suuuuuuper hype train

Looks pretty cheap (ie fake?) and it's on kotaku...

The event itself is probably real though... they never claimed that was the invite. I'm thinking that it was a staffer who quickly (and poorly) photoshopped that so they could have an image to go along with the news post.

I'm referring to the pic, not the event. The actual date of the evet makes sense enough to be real.

Either way, the picture is on that site too. Granted, I did assume you doubted the whole issue which is why I posted the link that showed the same story and picture as evidence. Did you not click the link and see the same picture? As it would be interesting to have a true story accompanied by a bogus picture on each site. I guess that's why I'm confused by your response needing to tell me what you were referring to.
