I'm more frustrated with a lot of Bungie's decisions with the game rather than the game itself. Sure, the melee is the ultimate problem. I don't like how Bungie keeps passing it off like it's nothing. I've been able to compensate, somewhat, by just back-peddling and shooting more instead of going for the melee. But in many instances, the melee is the only option. I don't care what the apologists say, it's broken.

Couldn't agree more with this. The beta's melee felt *perfect*. I remember Lars saying in one of the vidocs "We're bringing back the golden three of Halo which is weapons, grenades and melee". You overdid the grenades (frag grenades specifically), not much shooting of the weapon, and the melee ... *sigh*. It's more like a golden cripple.

I remember when Forge was announced and how it was trumpeted as changing matchmaking as we know it. There'd be forge variant maps in matchmaking. There'd be all kinds of insane gametypes to go with those maps. There'd be a whole new level of matchmaking like we didn't see in Halo 2.

I feel the exact same way. Sometimes I pop into the Bnet boards to see if anything new is being discussed, and a lot of times it's about people's (legitamite) complaints about map design, matchmaking, etc.. and all I hear from Achronos is "Why don't you just Forge it?" Well Achronos, if the maps ended up meaning something then I would (i.e. get some community maps into matchmaking just as you said). Not to mention that I don't have 15 friends just waiting for me to make a custom game every single day. I was so devistated to know the maps I spent quite some time on (Chaos Ground and H2 Zanzibar on Last Resort) were both destroyed by the awful way "File sharing" on Bnet has become (that's for another arguement) Chaos reached 20 downloads then vanished. H2 Zanzibar reached 14 then died.

Two months after launch...we're still sitting on the same gametypes we were using, with the exception of Rocket Race. And what's so great about rocket race? One, maybe two, teams actually play it. The others get off Mongeese and try to assassinate everyone. Why do we still not have a ranked BTB? It's one of the more popular playlists. Yeah, apologists say it's because of the guests. Why not rank it, while the population is at its highest, and see what happens?

Ranked BTB would be amazing. Rocket Race is actually a breath of fresh air from all the other junk gametypes. I usually go to Rocket Race in order to calm myself down after cussing my lungs out in massive frustration from the reasons I stated a couple posts back.

Bungie made the mistake of adding playlists like Actionsack into Halo 2 after the population died down. Don't do that with Halo 3. The game is booming right now. This is when we should be seeing experimentation. Instead, it's the same stuff.

Agreed. We should be seeing new gametypes (custom gametypes as well) added almost every week into matchmaking.

With the addition of all these new weapons, why aren't we using them? Where's the trip mine in Valhalla? Why can't we use it on Last Resort? Where are the flame grenades? Where are the prowlers? Where are the flamethrowers? Construct is actually one of the worst maps to have a flamethrower on because it just breeds camping. Trust me, I'm one of those who uses it. Why so many maulers? Why the lack of spike grenades? Plasma turrets, fuel rod guns, etc.

This is probably the next big issue that I'd complain about. I got SO MAD when I played Halo 3 the first day only to discover that I wasn't able to use the firebomb grenades. What a waste of an inch on the HUD if it's not being used. There are 3 maulers on Guardian. THREE. A map like Guardian should have only 1. Mauler either needs to be nerfed, or severely limited on all maps. Don't even get me started on the utter trash that is Construct. I remember people complaining to me about how the Carbine in the beta was overpowered. No it wasn't. It was the perfect (and much needed) leap from Halo 2. The only problem with it in the beta was that there were too many of them on a given map. Sure Valhalla had none to begin with, but High Ground had 7. SEVEN. And a map like Snowbound had 5. FIVE. The Carbine's problem rested in its quantity, not its quality.

I love the game, it's a lot of fun. But it's nowhere near as fun as it used to be. That's why I'm not playing it as much. When there's some better playlists and more variety. I'll come back full-force.

It certainly doesn't play like Halo.

While we're on playlist discussion, why isn't a well populated BTB ranked? I played it couple days ago and there was 36,000 players in it.

But wait, I read on Gaf by some people who claim it isn't popular...

I agree with Fox. The problems I see aren't really related to the game itself, but moreso on Bungie's decisions or lack thereof.

I just don't understand how Bungie is not tapping into the huge pile of already existing gametypes, I feel like it's 90% slayer and the rest is either vip/assault/ctf. I really love playing the game, but content wise in the multiplayer department it is seriously lacking.

I'd still be playing Halo 3 nightly. I don't have a problem with the melee. I don't have a problem with the maps. Or the playlists. Hell I played 450+ rounds of Halo 3 multiplayer in the first 2-3 weeks of release, and almost NONE of that was Objective. I don't feel like I've come CLOSE to tapping out Halo 3 multiplayer. The problem is...

...all my friends have moved on :(

I was banking on Halo 3 being my GO TO game for pretty much the rest of this generation, but with all my buds playing COD4 nightly, I inevitably end up playing COD4 too. Don't get me wrong, I like COD4 (a lot), but I'd rather be playing Halo.

I've never played capture the flag on narrows, or territories on Zanzibar, or 100s of other map/gametype combinations that seem like fun, dammit!

Is anyone else in my boat, needing some Halo 3 friends? We should exchange gamertags. I know I could jus log on and play some rounds on my own - it's not THAT hard to find cool parties to party up with... but eh.

If anyone else ranked 30-40 (or higher I suppose) feels the same, feel free to add my GT (ErrorJustin).

Call of Duty 4 is the flavor of the month. It happened when Halo 2 was out. Unreal Championship II was big for a while. Then Ghost Recon 2 was big for a while. Halo 2 always was the most-played game.

I'm sure I'll go back and play Halo 3 multiplayer sometime, but it won't be in the near future.

I'd just like to echo this sentiment.

For whatever reason, when I get into a bad streak it brings out the absolute worst in me. My teammates can't stand me. I punch my couch. I scream and curse. My dogs get so scared they jump into the shower - and they hate the shower.

I haven't played in two weeks and its been the most relaxing two weeks I've had since 9/25.

Well pretty much this is the reason I joined here:lol I would like to kind of just join in with some groups and such with Halo. My personal favorite types are Big Team Battle and MultiTeam. So if you have a group, I'm always a bit up for those. Objective, Slayer, etc also. Also I would love to try some more custom games. I use to play with a few from Gamespot GGD forums. But everyone moves on to other games so fast its kind of dissapointing.
So like, Even though I'm new here. Still would like a chance and all. I've always kind of had trouble with people on XBL in general. Either they seem to really rub me the wrong way or I have absolutely no clue who they were again...:lol
My GT is my name here lol. Decided make it simple. Shintoki. I would say I'm decent. Perfer Social matters over Ranked but if you not half bad I wouldn't mind playing ranked lol.

I swear I played about 10 games of Social Slayer the other night and I think 7 of them were Shotty/Snipers, I hate that shit. I wish they'd either take the shotty out and put the Beam Rifle back, or give you BR/Carbine as secondary.

I'm currently a 24 in Team Slayer and would like to start playing some more. If anyone wants to play just add Baby Tang3rine! :D

Also agreed. Even when we win and I wind up having a good k/d spread or being #1 on the team, I feel like I'm still playing like crap. Also getting reallllly tired of winning tons of matches, then losing one match and going down a rank. Out of the past 30 or so TS matches I've only lost like 5 or 6, yet I've gone down from a 40 to a 35. I think I'm pretty much done except for when I get dragged on by friends (like last night).

Pretty much the same situation with me. Only reason I continue to play it every day is because the other 3 people I play with pretty much only own Halo 3. Two of them have The Orange Box, but they don't feel like playing TF2 [anymore]. The four of us are just waiting until we all have the money, then we're going to buy COD4 and migrate there for a long time.

I hope they do a major update when the new maps roll out. This was hinted at in the b.net story, and it's about time. I'd like to see the maps really changed for each gametype - really different stuff on Valhalla for CTF and Assault, for example. There's a huge opportunity to mix things up.

I just played my first two games of Rocket Race last night. It's a fun mode, but I ran into what you described in both of them; it was my team and one other racing around, and the other two teams trying to kill us. Part of the second game was fun, but alas. People.

It did feel like the game type belonged in a larger set, though. I remember reading about Hammer Time in EGM and thinking it should be in Team Action Sack. Those kinds of crazy game types are the ones I have the most fun with, but I have never found anyone else to make or play them with. The clan I was a part of for a while did mostly straight-up slayer and the odd CTF game, which gets old pretty fast for me. I need different stuff in matchmaking, or I'll never get to play it.

Bungie made the mistake of adding playlists like Actionsack into Halo 2 after the population died down. Don't do that with Halo 3. The game is booming right now. This is when we should be seeing experimentation. Instead, it's the same stuff.
Yup. The custom game options seem made for these kinds of crazy games. Where are they?

Yup. I miss the trip mine on Valhalla a LOT. Equipment is far too rare on the maps, and the mix is really weird. Power drain but no mine on Valhalla? I remain flummoxed at that decision.

I really enjoy Halo 3's MP game, which is remarkable for me because by and large, I hate multiplayer games. Halo and Halo 2 are two very rare exceptions. Honestly, if they just fix melee, I'll be playing a lot more (yes, that dead horse again), but even the other changes would get me more engaged. As it is, I'm selecting gametypes that are less likely to involve melee. (BTB, Rocket Race.)

I really love the Campaign, and want to love the MP.

they're in fileshares RIGHT NOW AT THIS VERY MOMENT, but everybody is too obsessed with their own forged maps to download and play anybody else's.

Power Drainer is awesome. Perhaps the best equipment overall in the game, IMO.

We should Rocket Race sometime, you can be my wingman any day. We'll have more on different playlists soon, there are some changes that I hope folks from all walks of life will enjoy, in addition to the Hardcore playlist fans.

You know what I never really understood about this. Why do they not just have a Special in Social. Like replace rocket race with special. Special includes rocket race game types, But also Zombie, Predators, Swat, and whatever else. Use that to get some good user content out not to mention I'm sure people will love it. I can play all those unique types then without always having try and find people for a custom game.

And what happened to one side games? One Side Assualt, One Side CTF, etc. I love playing big team battle but its always the same types. What the heck happened to those types?

Groovy. I'm crawing out of my hermit hole slowly. I look forward to the update.

I hopped online for a few games tonight and had a good time - best so far, actually. Which is funny, because I sucked, big time. Halo is one of the few games I've played where I don't mind getting my arse kicked, because it's still fun. It's a bar few games clear, IMO. Usually when I'm not doing well, I'm not enjoying myself.

It helped that I didn't run into griefers or a certain issue much. I'm still impressed by the low lag in BTB - all my bitching about dedicated servers is kind of embarassing in hindsight. I have yet to have a problem. :\

Random side note: successful equipment deployments are delightful.

The second part of your comment is being addressed soon.

The first part is something we're going to be tweaking more post holidays. We want to have more variety in the hoppers and things like the Infection experiment went well, we were actually doing some pretty important testing on live subjects during that. It's not like we're ignoring things folks are saying, we're taking it all pretty seriously and I've been looking at the new hopper specs and if you check the games I've been playing lately, it hasn't included much H3, but the new hoppers are going to get me playing MP again, too. Plus, there's just a lot to play right now, in general :b

Lovin the first part which is the 2nd :lol I loved playing Headlong and Terminal with those One sided modes on big team battle. So much fun.

And the 2nd, awesome. As long as they know and are working on it. I can not complain. Lovely, fantastic, wonderful. I'm content. Will hopefully be awesome with whatever they decide. Hopefully it will make User Content soar also.

And a bit off an odd question here. I know you all at Bungie will eventually bring Halo 2 and 1 maps to 3. But my question is...What about the 3 maps they had on the PC version for Halo. Just curious but do you ever think we will see those ones in Halo 3? I loved the Silent Cart. Based one. And the other two were pretty good too. Those were really big maps and it would be awesome bring in another level or two other then Sandtrap that is heavily vehicle based. Some Fighters, Tanks, and Guass Hogs Oh My

Is there any word on improvements to Prefer Good Connection Luke?

A lot of my friends have given up on H3 for the time being because of the crap you get in the EU (or outside North America); namely still being forced to play those in North America due to a fairly useless ping filter of 200ms and that half of US networks are like a black hole for internet traffic.

Can someone convince me that Narrows isn't a shit map? I am fully prepared to be proved wrong, maybe I just don't have the right tactics.

As I see it, there are basically two main problems with Narrows: the hill, and the spawns.

If you control the hill with a sniper and BRs, the other team is basically fucked. From the top of the hill you can see into the main base, and from the sides of the bridge you can see the man-cannon/fusion-core sides of the base too.

If trapped in the base, your team can't get out. Running under the bridge you're working at a disadvantage, especially to grenade throws. Running up the middle you'll be out-BRed. Going over the man cannon just puts you in the other base instead, which doesn't help. What am I missing?

The hill put me off Narrows for Team Slayer, but I thought it would be good for objective games. The problem here is the spawns. Time and again my team will assault the base, clear it out but end up with no shields, arm the bomb, and then the other team will spawn in the base next to us and a couple of grenades gets the other team an Extermination medal.

Again, am I missing some tactic here? Basically the only way we've been successful in Assault is by engaging the other team in the middle of the map, and sending a ninja bomb planting dude to their base.

I would also love an answer to this question. Please, Bungie, make non-American players happy with more regional/lower latency matchmaking.

I love the core gameplay but Bungie is dropping the ball on the playlists big time - which is frustrating because they could quickly and easily change them. Especially now with the veto statistics telling them exactly what is unpopular among players.

From a quick glance at the Bungie.net forums, seems like the guy who was in charge of maintaining the Halo 2 playlists (Ninja 0n Fire) left a few months back. I guess that explains some things....

I think maybe people are missing some perspective on things. The game has only been out two months, and we've already had one permanent playlist change (no more social doubles, added rocket race, reduced shotty snipers, added guardian/valhalla to TS, lone wolves to 6 and added swords). Then there was the two day Hallowe'en special forged maps, which were fun.

I'd guess that most people who play Halo online have only played a couple of hundred games on average, so they haven't really had time to get used to the playlists. If Bungie change up the playlists every week or two weeks, as it seems you guys want, casual players won't have time to get used to the changes and might be put off.

On top of that, I don't understand why people really playlist changes. I can understand wanting a proper Team Hardcore, but apart from that what's the problem with the current hoppers?

Jeremiah/Ninja 0n Fire left? Surprising.

Met him once in MM on Halo 2. The connection was shitty and we discussed this in the post-game lobby. Basically what his reasoning was Comcast was having problems. He also asked me and Fox, "Do you know who I am?" -- big celeb, amirite? :lol

Dude seemed like a jerkoff, at least in that context. When he inserted Ninja CTF, Ninja Assault, and some other stupid gametype into MM in Halo 2 -- he replied, "It's been asked over and over on the forums", when in fact, Clan matches, 6v6, and multiple suggestions of BTB were most often discussed. Not Ninja Capture the Flag.

I'm curious who runs the playlists right now. They should be updating or configuring this kind of stuff daily, yet it hasn't been that way.

So this game is finally building up my host record again. Fuck that little shit who ruined it by forcing the host to them mid-game.

I wonder if my Bungie contact completely deleted my host record and reset it to "unknown" ... after my email to him this morning, I got host over and over and over and over and over ... compared to the past few weeks where I've hosted about 5 games. The game finally thinks I have a good host again!

Or maybe it's just a coincidence.

At any rate, I might just start playing this game more!

Anybody here need a 48hr XBL code? One of my friends asked me if he could have mine, and I PM'ed him the code, but he never answered me back and hasn't been online in a couple days so I'm assuming he hasn't used the code yet. Would any of you like it?

Any word on including 2 flag, 2 bomb, or KoH on Team Objective? Team Objective really needs an infusion of players. 5000 a night just makes matching slow for my friends and I. It is the most awesome playlist after all. Maybe there can be a ranked playlist of both slayer and objective (like when Halo 2 launched)? That would be awesome.

Ranked BTB needs to happen ASAP too.

Maybe ranked 6v6 with a slayer and objective mix? Sounds awesome to me.

That would be awesome. Multi Flag on The Pit is amazing. Also: Team Ball, or Lowball.

Social Skirmish has Multi Flag and Assault, but for obvious reasons social games are rarely close, and therefore not as fun :(

Yes yes yes. Listen to this man, for he speaks the truth. Six players is the sweet spot.

My friends and I are all mid 40s in slayer so social games are often not competitive when we play them. I really miss 2 sided objective games in ranked. Having to play offense and defense adds a lot to the strategy.

My friends and I are all mid 40s in slayer so social games are often not competitive when we play them. I really miss 2 sided objective games in ranked. Having to play offense and defense adds a lot to the strategy.
I miss games from Halo 2, such as Multi flag in Sanctuary and Assault in Terminal.

I'm curious to why Multi Flag is in The Pit in Social Games and not Team Objective.

KotH and Land Grab would be fun in The Pit, as well.

There's enough Land Grab in MM right now. They should add Multi Flag and some KotH though. Even Oddball would work.

Very good points. Why can't you be the person who makes the playlists? :lol

I would do it in a heartbeat!

I'd probably do it for free too!

Do you hear me Luke/Stinkles? I will work for free for you! :D

You're thinking Territories. Land Grab is first capture, no matter which team.

The more variety the better. But what do we know. We'll probably get Ninja CTF or something.

Jailbreak CTF is up in Bungie Favorites (along with new film clips and screenshots [the "Hero" photo is great <3]).

I'm trying it out and it looks great. Although I don't like the creator's weapon placement and some parts of his map setup. I'm in Forge changing stuff around. :)

The Weekly Update is up. And its a damn good read. I wish they were all written that way. In my opinion, Frankie usually makes them wordy just because he has nothing to really say. And seeing a brand new Mister Chief is like seeing a long lost brother.

It was a good update this week. $10 for the maps is a little steep. But I don't think any of us on this board can honestly say $10 would break us.

Yeah. I mean, I paid $7.50 for a quesadilla and some beans tonight that I snarfed in 10 minutes. I can shell out $10 on three maps I'll play for hours on. I'll hold off until the first title update, but while an incremental rise from last gen, it's not much at all. Especially if they are as good as the first batch of Halo 2 maps were.
