I don't like how Bungie keeps passing it off like it's nothing. I've been able to compensate, somewhat, by just back-peddling and shooting more instead of going for the melee. But in many instances, the melee is the only option. I don't care what the apologists say, it's broken.
I remember when Forge was announced and how it was trumpeted as changing matchmaking as we know it. There'd be forge variant maps in matchmaking. There'd be all kinds of insane gametypes to go with those maps. There'd be a whole new level of matchmaking like we didn't see in Halo 2.
Two months after launch...we're still sitting on the same gametypes we were using, with the exception of Rocket Race. And what's so great about rocket race? One, maybe two, teams actually play it. The others get off Mongeese and try to assassinate everyone. Why do we still not have a ranked BTB? It's one of the more popular playlists. Yeah, apologists say it's because of the guests. Why not rank it, while the population is at its highest, and see what happens?
Bungie made the mistake of adding playlists like Actionsack into Halo 2 after the population died down. Don't do that with Halo 3. The game is booming right now. This is when we should be seeing experimentation. Instead, it's the same stuff.
With the addition of all these new weapons, why aren't we using them? Where's the trip mine in Valhalla? Why can't we use it on Last Resort? Where are the flame grenades? Where are the prowlers? Where are the flamethrowers? Construct is actually one of the worst maps to have a flamethrower on because it just breeds camping. Trust me, I'm one of those who uses it. Why so many maulers? Why the lack of spike grenades? Plasma turrets, fuel rod guns, etc.
I love the game, it's a lot of fun. But it's nowhere near as fun as it used to be. That's why I'm not playing it as much. When there's some better playlists and more variety. I'll come back full-force.

When you feel like just ramming your foot through your own TV, it's time to stop playing it for a while. Also getting reallllly tired of winning tons of matches, then losing one match and going down a rank. Out of the past 30 or so TS matches I've only lost like 5 or 6, yet I've gone down from a 40 to a 35. I think I'm pretty much done except for when I get dragged on by friends (like last night).
I hope they do a major update when the new maps roll out. This was hinted at in the b.net story, and it's about time. I'd like to see the maps really changed for each gametype - really different stuff on Valhalla for CTF and Assault, for example. There's a huge opportunity to mix things up.JdFoX187 said:I remember when Forge was announced and how it was trumpeted as changing matchmaking as we know it. I just played my first two games of Rocket Race last night. It's a fun mode, but I ran into what you described in both of them; it was my team and one other racing around, and the other two teams trying to kill us. Part of the second game was fun, but alas. Yup. The custom game options seem made for these kinds of crazy games. Where are they?Bungie made the mistake of adding playlists like Actionsack into Halo 2 after the population died down. Yup. I miss the trip mine on Valhalla a LOT. Equipment is far too rare on the maps, and the mix is really weird. Power drain but no mine on Valhalla? I remain flummoxed at that decision. With the addition of all these new weapons, why aren't we using them? Where's the trip mine in Valhalla? Why can't we use it on Last Resort? Domino Theory said:Pretty much the same situation with me. Only reason I continue to play it every day is because the other 3 people I play with pretty much only own Halo 3. Two of them have The Orange Box, but they don't feel like playing TF2 [anymore]. The four of us are just waiting until we all have the money, then we're going to buy COD4 and migrate there for a long time.

It did feel like the game type belonged in a larger set, though. I remember reading about Hammer Time in EGM and thinking it should be in Team Action Sack. Those kinds of crazy game types are the ones I have the most fun with, but I have never found anyone else to make or play them with. The clan I was a part of for a while did mostly straight-up slayer and the odd CTF game, which gets old pretty fast for me. I need different stuff in matchmaking, or I'll never get to play it.

I really enjoy Halo 3's MP game, which is remarkable for me because by and large, I hate multiplayer games. Halo and Halo 2 are two very rare exceptions. Honestly, if they just fix melee, I'll be playing a lot more (yes, that dead horse again), but even the other changes would get me more engaged. As it is, I'm selecting gametypes that are less likely to involve melee. (BTB, Rocket Race.)
I really love the Campaign, and want to love the MP.
Groovy. I'm crawing out of my hermit hole slowly. I look forward to the update.LukeSmith said:We should Rocket Race sometime, you can be my wingman any day. We'll have more on different playlists soon, there are some changes that I hope folks from all walks of life will enjoy, in addition to the Hardcore playlist fans.
shintoki said:You know what I never really understood about this. Why do they not just have a Special in Social. Like replace rocket race with special. Special includes rocket race game types, But also Zombie, Predators, Swat, and whatever else. Use that to get some good user content out not to mention I'm sure people will love it. I can play all those unique types then without always having try and find people for a custom game.
And what happened to one side games? One Side Assualt, One Side CTF, etc. I love playing big team battle but its always the same types. What the heck happened to those types?

The first part is something we're going to be tweaking more post holidays. We want to have more variety in the hoppers and things like the Infection experiment went well, we were actually doing some pretty important testing on live subjects during that. It's not like we're ignoring things folks are saying, we're taking it all pretty seriously and I've been looking at the new hopper specs and if you check the games I've been playing lately, it hasn't included much H3, but the new hoppers are going to get me playing MP again, too. Plus, there's just a lot to play right now, in general :b
I would also love an answer to this question. Please, Bungie, make non-American players happy with more regional/lower latency matchmaking.Photolysis said:Is there any word on improvements to Prefer Good Connection Luke?

The game has only been out two months, and we've already had one permanent playlist change (no more social doubles, added rocket race, reduced shotty snipers, added guardian/valhalla to TS, lone wolves to 6 and added swords). Then there was the two day Hallowe'en special forged maps, which were fun.
I'd guess that most people who play Halo online have only played a couple of hundred games on average, so they haven't really had time to get used to the playlists. If Bungie change up the playlists every week or two weeks, as it seems you guys want, casual players won't have time to get used to the changes and might be put off.
On top of that, I don't understand why people really playlist changes. I can understand wanting a proper Team Hardcore, but apart from that what's the problem with the current hoppers?
Striker said:Power Drainer is awesome. Perhaps the best equipment overall in the game, IMO.
I love using it specifically in Valhalla and Last Resort.
I've dropped it while I was in the middle of the map while man-cannoning across the other side.siamesedreamer said:Yeah, I like using it on Narrows as they land at the foot of the man cannon.
Jeremiah/Ninja 0n Fire left? Surprising.Sean said:This is my complaint with Halo 3 as well.
I love the core gameplay but Bungie is dropping the ball on the playlists big time - which is frustrating because they could quickly and easily change them. Especially now with the veto statistics telling them exactly what is unpopular among players.
From a quick glance at the Bungie.net forums, seems like the guy who was in charge of maintaining the Halo 2 playlists (Ninja 0n Fire) left a few months back. I guess that explains some things....
I like you.LunaticPuma said:Any word on including 2 flag, 2 bomb, or KoH on Team Objective? Team Objective really needs an infusion of players. 5000 a night just makes matching slow for my friends and I. It is the most awesome playlist after all. Maybe there can be a ranked playlist of both slayer and objective (like when Halo 2 launched)? That would be awesome.
Ranked BTB needs to happen ASAP too.
Maybe ranked 6v6 with a slayer and objective mix? Sounds awesome to me.
That would be awesome. Multi Flag on The Pit is amazing. Also: Team Ball, or Lowball.LunaticPuma said:Any word on including 2 flag, 2 bomb, or KoH on Team Objective?

Social Skirmish has Multi Flag and Assault, but for obvious reasons social games are rarely close, and therefore not as fun

There's enough Land Grab in MM right now. They should add Multi Flag and some KotH though. Even Oddball would work.Striker said:I miss games from Halo 2, such as Multi flag in Sanctuary and Assault in Terminal.
I'm curious to why Multi Flag is in The Pit in Social Games and not Team Objective.
KotH and Land Grab would be fun in The Pit, as well.

Yeah. I mean, I paid $7.50 for a quesadilla and some beans tonight that I snarfed in 10 minutes. I can shell out $10 on three maps I'll play for hours on. I'll hold off until the first title update, but while an incremental rise from last gen, it's not much at all.
