Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn - Part 4 [Available To Watch]

I wonder if any of the disabled Spartans will ever show up in a Halo game. They are supposed to be key to the battle planning.

Strangely they don't even show up in the books very often.

Probably because all of the parts that aren't Spartans capping Covenant fools are being taken up by Halsey

Hey Frankie. Will there be extra footage for the Blu-ray/LE download? There must have been lots of extras they cut due to the 15 mins per episode restriction.

Bravo 343 Industries! I just finished watching episode 5, what a great ending!

I hope we get more storytelling in this medium in the Halo universe.

As someone who has been a fan of this franchise since its beginnings, I have to admit I haven't been this excited for a new entry since Halo 2. This miniseries has a lot to do with that.

My lord best adaption of a video game to live action ever. I am so impressed. What a excellent way for this to wrap up.

Master Chiefs Cirque De Soleil acrobatics over the Hunter followed by the monk music was just......awesome

One thing though. When I asked about his voice not just being the same VA as master chief I was told to wait till the final episode. I watched it and I don't see any reason for the difference did I miss something?

That was excellent from start to finish. Can't wait to see it again on Blu-ray and I hope we get more like this. A mini-series for Halo 5, a full-fledged TV series, a movie; something. Anything. Well done, 343. Well done, indeed.

The girl playing Kelly was cute.

I have a life outside the internet. Apologies I didn't reply in a timely manner for you.

Also, you are not "NeoGAF" so you can stop referring to yourself as "we".

Jackass.

We typically refrain from insults. Or at least blatant/clumsy ones.

The reasoning is that they are all in their mid-teens.

Also the monk halo theme when chief is getting up... was almost too badass.

LOL...Once again, the "we".

Carry on.

My body is fully ready to play Halo 4 but this series didn't really do anything for me. I guess I can't 'switch off' and watch material below your usual AAA TV series. I appreciate the effort by Microsoft though in building up the franchise in all directions which is cool.
Halo 4 marketing is a bit lacking to earlier entries but in contrast I think the game looks the most promising since the second outing.

Can you do this with the next clip? The one where he sits up covered in Hunter juices and the music plays. The look of awe on Sullivan's face was great.

How so? I think regular IIIs are WAY cooler (as underdogs tend to be), and so is their crappy armor. Putting them in Mjolnir was boring as hell.

Yeah! It's the raddest. The photoreactive camouflage could result in some really interesting visuals, but instead we just got a bunch of tiny Chiefs with really big butts.

what do they look like in their "crappy armor" i'm intrigued.

Episode 5 was great. One issue: I didn't recognize Fred and Kelly in that gray armor. Thought they were ODSTs at first. They looked fantastic when the helmets came off, though. Really sold the moment.

This series is better than competent. It can only have been the product of talented people who understand cinematic storytelling and the Halo universe equally well. I enjoyed the cast, the plot, and also the art direction, with the exception of Master Chief's armor in Episode 4. (The lighting made it look like plastic.)

I was also impressed by the music. It was very effective as punctuation for certain standout moments in this episode. And it made the ending. I have to say I'm less concerned about Halo 4's Marty-less soundtrack now.

I appreciated the way that the Hunter was clearly represented as a worm colony. That's one fascinating detail that Bungie never gave enough attention to. In fact, I'd say that on a broad scale, this is what the FUD production team have done throughout the show, and what 343 appear to have done in Halo 4: picked out and amplified the most distinctive aspects of Halo relative to the scale of the story being told.

Congrats and applause to everyone involved in this project. I went from being mildly intrigued at best to counting the days until the next episode once I finally sat down to watch the first three. This is how to promote a game with supplemental media. FUD intensified my excitement for Halo 4 more than all the rest of the game's promo material combined.

I couldn't believe how good this looks for a 10 million dollar budget 'movie'. Just imagine what they can do with a 100-200 million dollars.

Uh, isn't
that Hunter a little too big
?

eh, it seems right to me.

S-IIIs wear SPI Semi-powered Infiltration armor.

SPI.jpg

It is not nearly as tough as MJOLNIR, and has no shields at all, but it basically makes the S-IIIs into chameleons and lets them blend into any terrain.

I love how that armor looks, both bulky and sleek and ultimately cohesive. Too bad we never got a set of SPI armor for the MP.

Ah, so that's from the cover of Ghost of Onyx then. cool.

Kinda reminds me of the Security Helmet.

If you're at MLG's Fall Championships, stop by and pick up some of the Halo 4 maps ! :D

There's like 10 maps total!

At the end of the last episode, why did adult Lasky look completely different to the ingame model? Could they not get an actor who at least looked a tiny bit like him?

So outside of reviving MC, I missed what Cortana was doing in the 5th episode? All the red and shiny blue stuff going into her little sphere... wth was that?

Watched Episode 5 twice and must say I'm very impressed with the series as a whole. Some of the dialog was a tad corny, but overall it was well written.

Very nice lead in to the game. Now if only I had a functional Xbox :(

Any of the developers here at neogaf could tell us what was the name of the songs that were used in Episode 5? Particularly at the 9minute mark one.

I must've been the only one who didn't enjoy the series that much. The look of everything was just too clean (the props looked like props basically, not like weapons), way too many slow-mo moments, and too much cheese in general.
It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great either.

Halo: Landfall, now that's how it's done!

Will Halo 4 limited edition buyers be able to download the complete version of this when they get the game this week or is it going to be made available sometime later?

Also, any confirmed date for the UK release of the Blu-Ray yet? It still doesn't appear to be up for pre-order on Amazon.co.uk...

The whole part after Silva's death was extremely good. Silva's death was not enjoyable to watch even though it hit all the right emotional tones.

Highlights of the series for me:
The destruction of the space elevator.
The first elite scene.
Seeing chief in action.
The entire hunter sequence.
The helmet removal sequence.
The rescue jump sequence.

If you have the LE now, the "film" version is available to watch right away. It also has loads of extra content and bonus features, and set galleries, all navigable through the Waypoint console app. My streaming experience was razor sharp and instant.

I have terrible connection to the xbox streaming stuff, hope it works for me :(

Me too at home and it was as crisp as Zune, which is always really good for me on my ghetto pipe.

Also the director, Stewart Hendler might be lurking at the Seattle Halo 4 launch event tonight at the University Village Microsoft store. So if you see him, say hi.

I will wave from here, Austria, maybe he can see me over the Alps, ocean and stuff... :)

Was the main feature on the LE meant to have more content? I thought it was supposed to be slightly longer, but it didn't seem to be.

Either way, my Dad and I highly enjoyed watching it. Works well as one big movie.

I'm a little late to the Halo 4 hype. I did a good job not getting caught up in it -- I've almost completely moved on from 360/PS3 to PC, but the reviews (and commercials) finally sucked back me in this past week and reminded me that I really enjoyed Halo 3 and Reach.

So I picked up Halo 4 and watched Forward Unto Dawn (which I was barely just aware of) last night.

I was pleasantly surprised. While not perfect, it was quite enjoyable overall and had some very powerful moments.

As a small nitpick, I think they should have made Kelly and Fred as physically imposing as Master Chief. It wasn't until they took their helmets off that I realized they were Spartan IIs as well -- I figured they were merely ODSTs or something similar prior to that.

If you would have seen those teenage faces on near-7-foot giants, it would have really hit home. I think that's what they were going for, but just seeing Kelly standing a full foot shorter than the Chief in the previous scene kind of spoiled that moment.

Oh well... very cool overall. The production values for web projects continue to rapidly and radically improve, which is quite exciting for the future (Battlestar Galatica: Blood and Chome being another such example of a project to debut on Machinima Prime that smokes most television sci-fi in terms of special effects...).

Actually Blood & Chrome is a bit different. It's a cut up TV pilot that the SyFy channel passed on. It was made to start a TV series, not be a single film/web series as it now.

So, considering that, I'd say FUD is unrivaled.
