Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn - Part 4 [Available To Watch]

Some cool shots and otherwise nice stuff, but holy cat those lines from Master Chief. Hearing him end a radio transmission with "...Chief out" and later saying "Call me Master Chief" just sounded so wrong and terrible.

Don't act so innocent. It's obvious you're trying to imply that the user has no authority, and thus their critiques have no merit.

That pretty much says it all.

I love how you've already made yourself the victim. If you were really curious about their "training" in the field, you would have gone by asking that question without sounding like an asshole.

Victim? What the hell are you talking about? Seriously you're having a one man conversation because I'm not on whatever you're thinking. I said what I had to say, there wasn't any douche intent behind it. If you or anyone else takes it that way then so be it, I can't do anything about that but that wasn't my goal. I wanted to know so I asked. No crime in that. Relax.

Probably was discussed earlier, but is that a different actor for the MC? I get that the voice would be "younger" but it sounded off to me. Not a mega Halo fan so maybe that comes across as a dumb question.

Agreed on his dialogue being pretty cheesy.

Oh come on. Nobody is buying that.

Yeah, pretty sure that isn't the main VA.

I dont get the complaints.

you guys know me to be a critical ass lol, and I hate 90% of the shit out there, but this was flawless movie directing to me. just incredible.

That elite was just truly terrifying, great suspence, built tension....just incredible stuff.

and master chief was done amazingly well. I don't know too many other directors that could pull this off to be honest.

well done.

Edit: Oh yeah and nice music too.

I dont think it was terrible to be honest. what else is he going to say? " cya brah" ?

"I'm the Master Chief" sounds a lot better than "Call me the Master Chief", like it's some nickname he insists on being called.

What planet is this academy supposed to be on? The whole last survivors on the planet thing confused me, as I think I was imagining it was somewhere on earth the whole time.

Aw someone is upset. Anyone else get some angry PMs? lmao

"Look dude I don't know you from Adam and don't care what you have to say about the issue. Nor do I care what anyone else has to say about it. My intent was not foul and I stated my case. Drop it. There's no point arguing in an open thread ruining it for everyone else.[/QUOTE]"

That's exactly what I sent to you and one other person because I didn't want the thread to get ruined. If that's angry then whatever.

OT: Do you know if they have plans to continue the series? I know there are only these episodes thus far (one more to go right?) but after that have the announced anything in the live action area?

1) Usually when operating on the field the Spartans are divided into teams (blue, red). He could've said "blue-one out" or something like that. It would have been more militaristic and realistic. There's a clear protocol considering radio transmissions and I've got the image Spartans usually were quite by the book regarding these things, thanks to the incredibly hard and long training.

2) When identifying himself, he could've just said his rank and designation. No "You can call me Master Chief", instead "I'm Master Chief", "Spartan 117" or "Master Chief". Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, the armor should really have something that indicates the rank of the soldier, and the cadets should be able to recognize "Ah, he's Master Chief, better follow his orders".

The name of the planet is Circinius IV.

Do you have any examples of your work? With each episode of Forward Unto Dawn you have put up a critique and I'm curious to see some of what you've done. You talk a lot so I'd like to see examples.

Ok. first let me clarify something. Are you asking for examples of something I have done out of genuine curiosity since I tend to be specifically critical about things, or because unless I have something good my critiques are void? If its the former, ok, fair enough, if its the latter... well others have covered that.

Honesty time: I wish I had the talent to get the things inside of my head on paper. It seems all my friends have the talent, but sometimes they don't have the ideas.. So sometimes we work together, make projects, etc. I sketch a lot, but I really have nothing to show for it.. nothing good anyways. And I certainly have no professional experience working on a film or props. That said, I am going to school for filmmaking, its a passion of mine, and I tend to have a critical eye, especially on the art side of things.

I mean no disrespect to the artist who have worked hard on this project.. Some things are all to the eye of the beholder, and for me some issues bug me. To others they may be nothing. But I fully respect the production here, and I also understand there was a limited budget. Like I said, I am passionate about this type of stuff.. I'm not throwing critiques out to diss, I am bringing them up for conversation points. This stuff is really interesting to me, and I love talking design. I may not have the hands on experience, but I hope to someday.

So yeah, I might not have much to show, but I really don't think that makes my opinion less valid. Are those who play games only allowed to dislike them if they made them?

But anyways, how about work from a friend of mine instead?

He sculpted and painted the Raptor.. Its movie accurate... Done on a small budget and looks fantastic. So what I am saying is I do have a general understanding of certain things, and definitely have a passion for them.

I thought Master Chief was just a title? Is he already the rank of "Master chief" at that age?

That's one thing bugging me. Well besides the dialog. It's a title and if I weren't being lazy right now I'd look but I could swear that he hadn't gotten that rank yet by the Fall of Reach. I'm probably wrong though. I really need to go back and read Fall of Reach again.

Something with Chiefs armor is just off to me. Its hard to say what it is... I guess it just looks fake/plasticky
Awesome episode though. They keep gettin better every week!

Watching episode 4 and goddamn I want a live-action movie of this.

I do agree. This does show the real potential of a Halo movie. Despite the dialog issues and other minor things since Episode 3 I've been enjoying the hell out of it. I really have. They got the action right and the suspense with the elite was well done.

Sadly I just never see us getting a true Halo movie. I really don't.

He's mentioned as being Master Chief during the mission when Sam gets killed (right after they get the MJOLNIR suits) in 2525.

Ah ok then. So I was wrong. I guess it's just the referring to yourself the way he did that bugs me then. It just seems weird.

What they've shown so far could easily be turned into a blockbuster if they hired some decent actors and upped the budget for costumes/weapons (it's still a bit plasticky, but that's understandable).
The Elites, the energy swords, gun fire, ships - it's all looking big screen worthy already.

To be fair, it's a rather obscure bit of info because prior to that it wasn't really made explicit (as in "you're now MCPO") as far as I can tell. The SIIs graduated as PO Second Class, so presumably he is made a higher rank as squad leader, but again it's not mentioned explicitly until the following events and then only mentioned as MCPO once. :s

Ah yea that's all coming back to me now that you mention it. I still think I'd kill to see Fall of Reach as a movie first. In fact I'd prefer to see the books made into movies over the games to be honest.

MC is fifteen? hory shet

anyone have a timeline of Fall of Reach, id love to know how old they were as they went through the book.

2517 - John etc are kidnapped ~6 years old

I suppose you can work it out from there, but then we also don't know how long they've spent in cryosleep over the years either (maybe not too significant in the grand scheme). :p

What exactly is the excuse for Forward Unto Dawn being better than most (if not all) movies based off video games.

This is in the hands of a pretty much unknown producer/director.
It's low budget.
It is a made-for-web-series movie.
Contains generally unknown actors except the Narnia girl.

And yet it manages to be better than all the crappy Tomb Raiders, Resident Evils, the Uwe Boll abominations, Mass Effect: Paragon Lost (lol!), etc.

Is it the close involvement between 343i and the producers? Microsoft breathing down their backs wielding whips?

No. It's Halo, and is by default better than all that other stuff.
I would kill for a movie adaption of Fall of Reach.

Awesome episode though. They keep gettin better every week!

I think its a mix of things, first and foremost the actual look of the armor.. Basing it off of the armor from the anime seems to be a bad move..it just doesn't look right, it comes off way too cartoony. Especially compared to Halo 4 armor. On top of that, the actual paint application mixed with the material the armor is made from just comes off looking like plastic unfortunately. Same with the visor, which looks a ton like the Halo 3 Legendary edition helmet. It has a weird mix of looking cheap and not cheap at the same time.

Another issue is the actual lighting and way the armor was shot.. Im sure the lighting could have been made more complimentary towards the suit, same with the cinematography. It just comes off on screen as cheesy, and it reveals a lot of the suits flaws. He just kinda looks like a really tall guy awkwardly running around, emulating action hero's while in a really expensive Halloween suit.
