Halo 4 - Media blow out

Thanks OdysseusVA

I noticed that the sounds were muffled during this section of the video, probably cos you're fighting outside the ship, right at this part:

Well, not to mention that floating body on the left.. heh

^ Holy shit, good catch. That part looks like its gonna be a blast.

So there isn't going to be
Flood
in this game right?

I love all the Halo Games. But those parts are by far the worse.
Going to say only Halo 2 did it right when it comes to that.

Nope, no flood. At least we wont be fighting them, who knows if they show up in some capacity.

I don't know about you guys, but I consider screenshots that have been anti-aliased to hell and back to be right in the Bullshot territory.

Art direction is fantastic but there's no way in hell it's going to look this good in the actual game. Even at 720p it's going to be all jaggie'd up.

Halo 4 uses FXAA, too.

My main issue with halo 4 IQ is the AF, rather than the AA.

It uses FXAA as well as running at 720p.

EDIT: Thought Gears 3 did use FXAA? My mistake.

So, the Hunters really didn't get a huge makeover, which is too bad as they could have done numerous things with them. They are after all only worms inside armor, so they can come in all shapes and sizes.

That said, it looks good.

As for the Jackals, Im not really diging the redesign (I liked the slightly longer snout, and the huge creepy avian/alien eyes) but the heavy variant is frighting and awesome.

Just watch the videos, obviously its not perfect, but holy hell does it look good.

Yeah! Seriously! Fuck all this complex character development bullshit! Deep narative? No thank you! Epic scores? No more! I don't need a story I gotta go to school to understand.

I just want to pew pew and hear some rad music in the end. Now that's my Halo!

Except that I explicitly said that I was completely down with every supporting character as had been done in the past. I also said I loved the complex narratives around him. Said nothing of scores or story disappearing. I just don't need to explore Chief's humanity. We need to stop pretending he isn't the guy who single-handedly destroyed an entire Covenant armarda and HALO ring by himself.

Seriously. Listen to Rock Anthem for Saving the World and remember what HALO used to be.

The HALO 2 announcement teaser perfectly surmises what Chief was in the HALO universe and what the tone of the games were. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32FPuIH35Hg

1. I think I said it in either this thread or over at HaloGaf, but for the first time in a halo game, the hunters actually look like they're comprised of worms.
2. Is that... saliva... i see dripping from the jackals mouth? Dear god these things look menacing now.

But why can't both work at the same time? Bad-ass man of few words who does awesome shit, and yet has a story and a little humanity at times.

Yeah, I love the touch with the worms, maybe if we are lucky there will be some Hunter variants. Hm. I wonder if the worms spill out when the Hunter dies.

I really like the new jackal design... I just don't like the new shield.

It looks so odd compared to the older shields

Hunter looks awesome. You can see more of a creature behind that armor instead of a tank.

Not a fan of the new jackals. They are now more intimidating which doesn't fit.

Its hard to find a good pic, but the shield/armor looks fine:

Reach:

In videos, it doesn't look right at all. Like its blurry on the whole shield

Unlike the halo 1/2/3 shields where you see shields with high contrast shifts in pattern

And reach sucks

So are we just going to encounter Elites that are hostile to us? Because that would be pretty lame.

In all the footage so far, they've all been enemies. Are we going to see the Elites that are our allies or no?

More than likely not. Frankie explained the covenant has split into factions, the one we're encountering happens to be hostile.

I added some previews/videos to the OP. Thanks for everyone who posted them in this thread.

I'd recommend to everyone to read Polygon's stuff.

Sorry for being a little passive-aggressive there. I just don't agree that it's not worth going into the human side of Chief because he's been established as something greater than human due to his actions. It's because of all he was and what he has become that one would like to go on that hero’s journey from to see what has become of Chief, the human, to bring him to where he is in the moments of Halo 4. How could this mean less to the game? How could this take away from the experience? I think Chief would seem even more like a badass if they can effectively establish his humanity in the midst of these impossible events. If it means my reaction goes from "Holy shit! Did he just do that? That’s not even human" to "Oh my god! How the hell can a human do that?" is fine with me because it just shows that I went from suspension of disbelief as narrative device to actually understanding that something special and different about Chief gives him that title of hero because he rose to greatness amongst humans.

I just hope Chief isn't humanized too much. It's kinda like trying to humanize Superman to the point where he's just some regular joe with super powers. That is BS.

Chief should always feel like the demi-god that he is. He is a human, sure, but not...really. He is the Master fuckin' Chief.

Why have that armour piece on just one shoulder?

In some fictions armour is on one side of the body or shoulder because the person enters a door or frames themselves in such a way that it is part of their forward profile to oncoming gunfire. In WH40k for example, spacemarine shoulder pads cover up a large portion of the marine when he stands gun pointing forward. If you understand what I mean.

simply put, turn your body the way your armour faces.

They always assured they are trying to find the right balance. At the end Bungie started to humanize the Chief in Halo 3 Edit: Halo 2 already.

Great find pointing out where that gif takes place on that pic, really shows the scope of the game.

The scope of this game and just the sure mass of the environments we have seen is what really has me excited. Fans always think bigger, these environments really show me that the people at 343 are fans.

Love it.

Such a badass reason for clothes.

Fucking hell, this looks like it is going to piss all over Bungies efforts. Halo has never been an outstanding looking game the Xbox360 yet with 343 it is looking unreal, even on of the best looking games on the platform.

I've always enjoyed Halo single player campaigns but I've never had a strong love for them, and never jumped into multi all that much but I'm really excited for this one.

There are plenty of videos that represent the actual image quality. You're not going to be playing stills.

Yeah, the available direct-feed footage should do a lot to assuage people's concern about bullshots. I mean, yes, they are supersampled bullshots, but nowhere near the extent they were for previous Halo titles.

A no. Have you watch any vids?

i've watched pretty much all the vids in 720p where available on a HDTV and yes, there's still noticeable aliasing whether it's realtime cutscenes or gameplay. the dudes right, most of the screens are bullshots, but hey at least its HD this time, thank god. so it won't be as bad as the past few halos.

Chief doesn't talk much. If he did, he wouldn't be Chief. There are many ways to flesh out his humanity without him rattling off about his feelings.

Exactly, let's just be fucking thankful they haven't taken the Other M approach, God bless Samus that poor girl.

There are barely any jaggies n no blurriness so dont know where you get your previous post from.
