Halo 5 Forge

I wonder if they'll allow exact mirroring of grouped items. That would probably save the most time for forgers, completely simplify symmetrical map design. Probably would even help build better asymmetrical or functionally symmetrical maps.

I'd imagine copying and then rotating a group 180 degrees will mostly get you what you want if you're careful about it.

The scripting will be so good. Can't wait to see the puzzles (also, mini-games) people will create with that.

How do the colored Forge pieces (and lighting) look when everything is fully rendered?

Overall, does it help the visuals of the map read better, and allow the depth to pop more?
Unfortunately, we only got to see our creations fully rendered in a few brief tests sessions since we were using Forge Mode dev boxes. The pros were in there so we had little time to enjoy the view. From what i did manage to see, the maps looked great.

Any word on what theatre will be like? For example can we change timescales yet and is there a dolly cam? This sort of stuff would be really useful for us lot that make fragmovies and shortclips. They're the reason why CS and CoD are at the top of the movie making scene and it would be nice to see some great halo content being created.
They did not discuss Theatre Mode with us for exactly this reason.

Will we see some gameplay on the maps the cartographers created soon? really curious to see how the maps look from first person pov
We do not know the fate of our maps and will be as surprised as you when this information is released. They could have spent days with the devs and artists receiving polish and proper game testing with the pros, or they could have been binned.

So this entire fucking time Zoba is A 3 Legged Goat , the creator of motherfucking JACKAL CREEK?

i need to sit down for this

Shit I LOVED Jackal Creek. I forgot A 3 Legged Goat made it.

Was my favorite map to test for the Community Cartographers. I kept re-inserting it into the test queue just so I had an excuse to play it again.

It was the first Forge map I played in Reach where I completely forgot I was on Forge World and had to actually go into Forge and delete stuff to figure out where it was built at

I had no idea that map ended up being as popular as it was. I co-forged it with a friend from GodlyPerfection's forge group and I spent most of the time bitching about how I didn't think it was good enough.

I recall Urk asking about whether the blue and red sides were balanced, and unfortunately they weren't because there was a bigass rock native to Forge World that I couldn't move. Terrain has always been difficult to work with in the past, but now that we can control it there's a lot that I would do differently with it. (That includes removing some rather silly aspects of it. I wish somebody stopped me before I put that dam up...)

I owe Homeboyd a remake so I'll revisit it sometime.

It was really good and a lot of fun. You can view our test films for it on Jeremiah's Reach rendered videos:

The Terrain pieces go from small to HUGE (almost the size of the Big Island on Forge Island) and add very little strain on the engine.

Soooo would a Valhalla or Blood Gulch canyon on Alpine, or the boomerang-shaped snowy walls for a remake of Avalanche or Sidewinder, be feasible with these terrain pieces?

I really hope they add more "locations" to Halo 5 Forge. That is, if they're planning adding these maps into Matchmaking.

But the current locations they have look great! Especially the snow one. Great job 343i. My ONLY annoyance about Halo 5 is the lack of split screen, even 2P split screen. Oh well, hopefully for Halo 6?

I've got a question for Nok (or whoever else knows);

Trying to see how many canvases we have to work with here...

I know we have the 3 blank canvases, but they mentioned Breakout and other maps could be Forged on as well right? How many other maps are there that can be used as canvases (aka all the assets can be removed and you can then build from scratch)? And are all palettes available for all maps?

I wasn't really sure how "forgeable" those other pre-built maps actually were considering most of the time in the past you could remove or edit some objects on maps like those, but not really use them as canvases.

Also, what's this about taking/using campaign assets or forging in campaign?

silverlight y u no load

if you're on Chrome, Chrome now blocks NPAPI plugins (which Silverlight is), so you have to use Firefox unless you want to go to the deep settings of Chrome.

Whenever Bungie.net rendered videos work again, I should start pushing these videos over to Youtube anyway.

Sandbox/Sandtrap map canvas DLC pls

Its nice to see old names in here, gonna have a blast playing and testing map creations like in the good old times of Blueprint.

@homeboyd

I think he mentioned that the Breakout Arena is its own canvas

We finally get an ice canvas and people are asking for sand? Fuuuuck that. I want a magma canvas.

NOKYARD said a modicum of campaign assets are probably being added to the Forge item lists for use in Arena MP maps, e.g. one of those big statues on Sangheilios or holograms.

Ok so 4 canvases that are or can be blank?

Oh ok that makes sense. Sweeeet

That actually reminds me of a Blueprint test that we had on the Reach Hang 'em High* map. They threw it at the top of the bases and made a floor. The cool part was how it felt like a new map, but it used the Hang 'em High* assets.

*I forgot what the Hang 'em High map name was in Reach.

High Noon I believe

And yeah, BP times were great times, I had lots of fun testing and making heavies map variants.

Heavies were the bane of my existence in that group. Mostly because getting 12 people near the end of Reach's lifespan was tough, but also because it was heavies. If only we had gotten Cragmire through that group so I could have put my stamp of disapproval on it.

Ok so 4 canvases that are or can be blank?

Thats how it seems, I guess the stadium roof and lights etc are always there.

Idk if the "floor" is fixed though, because there are some breakout maps that have descending ramps, not sure. Either way, awesome news. The 3-4 Breakout maps Ive seen have all looked pretty cool.

edit: heavies testing, shudders.

I just realized we can make Invasion-type maps. It's probably not possible to do multiple objectives in one game though... Unless someone can debunk that ;)

I'm hoping that we have gametype settings now that allow us to perform similar feats, even if one of the gametypes we get at launch is a "toolset" that mainly allows for a new objective per round, etc.

I don't see why not, really. Complete objective 1, despawn objective 1, spawn objective 2, repeat. If Objective [X] isn't complete in time, Red Team wins!

When did Jackal Creek enter circulation? I don't remember seeing it in Reach MM.

Going back and checking the Bungie CC forum, it appears it was a victim of the Bungie -> 343 Reach transition. It was submitted right before that.

Disclaimer: a map could pass through the entire CC process, and be vouched for by Bungie employees, and it still wouldn't guarantee it would show up.. but it definitely had poor timing. Around right before the transition Bungie went into updating Reach in legacy mode rather than building new Community Map playlists

They should release Megalo tools and let the community run wild, community has already proven they can create new gametypes from scratch and even bring old gametypes which 343i left out at launch.

Probably will never happen but one can dream.

I don't think it ever did. Goat hated that map. Community loved it.

(maybe it did, I really can't remember.. maybe one of those "community fuck around" playlists or something)

Didn't literally hate it, but I disliked not being able to flesh it out as much as I would and then it taking off before I could fix it. I put an updated version out sometime after the first one, but as Fyrewulff said, the transition kinda cut its lifespan in half.

I recently went back to the drawing board to try and reinvision it. This was some previz I was doing for another map that was kind of a successor. Jackal Creek took the "two bases in a field" concept from Timberlands and condensed it, so the trick has been to reinvent that with interesting gameplay dynamics. I'm no Sparth, but this helps me to visualize the kind of mood I want to take something before I put the blocks down.

Previous BNET name was Quantum, if anyone is wondering.

oh that. that was one of those mandatory games in custom lobbies. absolutely hilarious... until you played it 30 times.

i think i remember a Quantum. Will have to see a matching avatar though to be sure but I'm certain we played Reach a few times.

That map is the origin of some of my best memories on Halo multiplayer. It was so so fun.
Also, one of the only time the lag actually doubled the fun.
Yup, one of the few. I also remember that Shark infection mode, as well as this weird map where everyone spawned next to a massive bridge and had to get across in slayer while spawning with rockets.

The days when I stayed up to watch Forward Unto Dawn episodes on cold nights... and made threads about it. No regrets.
Some regrets. Many regrets.

Two Words.

Duck. Hunt.
:O

Halo 5 has a lot to prove...

Great to see people hyped for Forge. :D

I am hoping we can play way more with Gametype options to create some unique ideas.

Soooo would a Valhalla or Blood Gulch canyon on Alpine, or the boomerang-shaped snowy walls for a remake of Avalanche or Sidewinder, be feasible with these terrain pieces?
Yes, absolutely. And if you didn't like your Blood Gulch to be grassy, you could move it to the Glacier map to see what it would look like in winter.

Breakout Arena plus 3 canvases, with 3 distinct variants each. Alpine at high noon, at sunset, overcast. Space has 3 different stellar locales, i forget the Glacier variants.

I have no information on other Arena or BTB maps because we never got to see any of the. We didn't even get to play Warzone.

Campaign assets are most likely to be a handful of crates, barrels, and other small decorative items. It's easier to port them from the campaign than to create from scratch.
