Halo:CE Anniversary Announced (MS Conf, Nov 15th 2011, $40)

this is garbage, what is the point in re-releasing all of this stuff if it doesn't have the classic pistol.

It's not like they have to make new weapons or anything, you can keep all of the reach assets just tweak them so that the weapon damage is the same as it was in H1.. I don't want a DMR/Needle Rifle/Pro Pipe on Damnation, I want the pistol, invis/OS & rocks, and a sniper.

3rd most played multiplayer game on XBL = dead!

According to bungie.net 750k players have been on in the past 24 hours. That's not dead, stop blowing shit out of proportion.

Terrible. All hype killed with the multiplayer news. Can't believe they're charging $40 for half of a game.

Get real, Microsoft.
How is it a 1/2 price game?
It is the exact same campaign as when it first launched, only now made with the Reach engine. Also, the multiplayer is being handled the same way as ODST. Rather than fragmenting the Halo fan base they are just going to make the 7 original maps part of a map pack (included on disk) and do it that way.

I think GAF forgot what Halo 1 looked like at E3 10 years ago.

It was awful in terms of presentation.

Yes it was, a 12fps nightmare. Even the Halo 3 gameplay trailer had an unstable framerate that was improved in the final game. Reach had its own issues iirc. All of them got better at release.

Dead? 650,000 daily unique users, almost always over 80,000 concurrent.
They're clearly playing it ironically. They don't really want to play it, so everything sucks because Halo Anniversary doesn't have multiplayer. At least, that's what I'm getting from all this.

I don't really get the whole splinter fanbase argument, it is still people playing and loving Halo. If this Halo remake would have faithfully recreated the Halo 1 MP with original gameplay and a better framerate, I would have been excited for Halo 4. It would be a good showing by them to remake my favorite MP for Xbox Live, and it would give me hope for their future endeavors for Halo.

That was a dream scenario, and I realistically didn't expect it, but it is kind of sad that they just pulled an ODST 2 with the Halo Anniversary edition. Expect a Beta Key for Halo 4 in there as well.

Now I just don't really care, I'm not gonna buy this, and I will just wait and see about Halo 4.

You only get the original campaign, and not the multiplayer. It's half of a game. I don't give a shit how many map packs you give me, it's not the original multiplayer, so why should I care?

It is using the Reach engine. It's even using Reach's assets (see Marines and AR).

I know, but.. it would have made more sense for the Spartans to look how they looked in Reach, and the Elites. I mean.. exactly like them. With the physics of Reach too.

Do you know what I mean? Probably not.. I don't know how to explain my self that well. haha

What "fanbase"? The multiplayer is dead. Rebooting at this point wouldn't hurt anyone.

so less than Call of Duty = dead?

companies don't live and die by top 10 lists unlike some of you slovenly basement fucks. Just about every single game company out there would kill to be "#2 to COD."

Not having multi would be so so stupid. Nobody was asking for a remake all these years to play campaign. Nobody.
That's all I cared about. No way you can just slap the original game online. Worked fine for local but so many adjustments have to be made for latency.

Dude, calm down and relax.

For my 2 cents, this is exactly what I wanted. Campaign with new art assets and online co-op.

That's a pathetically small number.
There are 100,000 people online right now. Where the hell are you seeing this?

If it was OG Halo online multiplayer there would be no end to the "he's too slow" "can't jump over a pebble or past a foot gap." Halo LAN parties were fun, but it's Halo 2 multiplayer that'd I'd want to actually be original, that's where my nostalgia lives. Too bad Halo 2 is the forgotten one it seems.

How can comments like this be allowed? It is nothing but trolling bait. Halo Reach is the 3rd most played game on live and nightly has over 100k players on at a time. According to Bungie.net Halo Reach has had over 600k unique users in 24hours.

I'm very glad the original campaign is just getting a cosmetic facelift, I really don't want any changes to the gameplay. For me, it's a game that if you're going to touch at all, don't mess with anything but the graphics.

That being said, the lack of the original multiplayer put online is severely disappointing. I don't like Reach's multiplayer that much so a map pack doesn't really wet my whistle.

I have to admit that replaying the campaign is not enough for me. With the lack of MP I will most likely not be purchasing this. Which is a shame because my favorite Halo experience was LANs with friends on the original.

I wonder - does this game require you to have Halo Reach game disc to play multiplayer or is the multiplayer standalone like ODST? It's not clear to me.

It's dead compared to relevant online shooters. I love Halo but I'm fucking infuriated that Microsoft thinks it's okay to "remake" CE without the original multiplayer. I'm not trolling, stop being so defensive.

I hope they add more levels to the front of the game, as soon as the flood turn up the game becomes slightly less awesome.
The level Two Betrayals is as awesome as the rest, if not more in some cases, because how great the gameplay becomes. Three way battles between UNSC, Covenant, and flood is great.

MW2 and Blops = the only relevant online shooters. Because those are the only games above it.

Don't confuse speed with Jump height, Halo 1 had the quickest speed of any of the games, running and strafing were a lot faster than subsequent Halo games. The jump height is lower, but the maps are designed with that in mind, and it also makes it less of an option when in firefights. I guess people loved jumping around in Halo 2 and 3, but in Halo CE it was about your strafe, your shot, and skill. You were better off crouching in a Pistol duel than jumping.

just a guess - but i bet its the equivalent of halo 3's ODST release and it will have a second disc of reach multiplayer with the new maps and old.

So since numbers aren't working for you, you're just using ranks. Alright. Have fun with your little crusade. I hope you don't run out of arguments, because you're winding down pretty quickly.

So many people are gonna get burned this November, thinking they can finally play Halo 1 on Xbox Live. Think again SUUUUUUUUUUUUCKERS!!!

Seriously, that's pretty shitty. My chances of buying this are slim to none now. I'm not paying $40 for a campaign I've played a billion times and 7 maps for a game I traded-in months ago. No way in hell this is going to make me buy Reach again. I wouldn't be surprised if they threw in Halo 4 beta access either.

In short: Fuck this shit. Pass.

On Xbox. That's the only gaming platform that exists, right?

They could just have you select Multiplayer from the front end and seamlessly transition you into a locked down Reach MP experience without the player even knowing that they have crossed a gap.
