Halo: Infinite |OT| Campaign. Evolved.

Has anyone here used that Scorpion Gun thing in Legendary difficulty ?

Are you able to keep that weapon through out the campaign ? Yes I know it's kind of 'cheating' but that's about the only way I'm interested in playing this in Legendary lol
You can use the Scorpion Gun throughout the campaign, but can never drop it, as it will disappear. It also doesn't respawn where you can get it initially. It's almost a must for a LASO playthrough.

I'm playing through on Legendary now and it doesn't seem that much harder than Heroic. Since I'm more experienced now, I'm actually dying less than I did on my Heroic run.

what a joke the bar has never been lower.
This is a half finished game.

What is a better FPS this year to you?

Personally I think this is a great game. It isn't perfect and needs more content for the open world, but overall it is a hell of a lot of fun to play. Only other FPS I played this year was Far Cry 6 and I certainly think this is a better game than that.

Village is better in almost every single way and is a finished and complete product.

I’ve also had more fun in Vanguard in SP and MP but I understand that’s more my opinion.

I keep forgetting RE Village is FPS. I’m not a horror fan so not on my radar. But I can definitely understand that pick. It got great reviews and a ton of GOTY awards already.

Nintendo couldn't do Halo if they tried. It is not in their DNA.

I understand the hype this game is getting. However, I didn't enjoy playing this, and this is from someone who thought Halo: Combat Evolved changed their life.

No troll here, by the way - I really want to like this game. However, whenever I play it, I feel so bored. The gunplay feels okay. However, compared to games like Apex Legends, the entry just doesn't hit the same heights. The open world feels empty, and Master Chief is such a reactionary character that investing in him feels difficult without external stimuli.

Again, I'm not trying to hate on this game. It seems to be the battleground of childish console warring at the moment. I do love Halo, and I want to know what people find so revolutionary in this particular entry so I can appreciate it.

The only FPS I can recall from this year are Village, Necromunda, FC6, Deathloop and .. that's it ..

Infinite is definitely the best playing game of the bunch, by a country mile (or a Zeta mile in this case).

I agree. Though you can artificially increase the length of the game by doing the side missions (like I did), I felt there was little variety in many of the encounters. Would have been nice to have different biomes or perhaps an additional enemy group to fight. The Banished are basically just re-skinned Covenant. I am not sure I like where the story direction is going either.

I gotta give Halo Infinite props for supporting keyboard mouse on Xbox Series. I wish every FPS would do that on console.

There are a lot of changes in story I would wish in the future but on top of that is the Cortana storyline. Not well versed in Halo timeline but please involve UNSC, Earth, other forces in play to have some stakes for the story. The time travel skipping part definitely piqued my interest though but that's the best part in a 15 hour campaign.

And just how lazy is it to introduce yet another super ancient races that will destroy everything,
You only can play that card once, Reapers. Or are Endless timeless because they can manipulate time ?

What time travel are you talking about? Please explain what scene contains that. I have to ask, did you even play the game or just watch videos?

Did played it and loved it.
Maybe I am misremembering now but in the last scene where they skipped 3 days (when they teleported from the end fight?) made me think that was a definite nod to things to come. Bungie planned it for Destiny-1, it is a good tool to get out of narrative tight spots one might have roped themselves into.

Same here, I’ve spent 10 hours trying to figure out why it’s getting game of the year awards. I like Halo 4 and Halo 5 more so far. The enemies, bases, weapons, the scenery, it’s all so incredibly samey.
Slowest start ever or am I missing something?

MidGenRefresh MidGenRefresh instead of just posting a triggered smiley, please say if things change later. Do I have anything different to look forward? New scenery or enemies or something?

I'm like 70% through the campaign and it's alright but like others have said, the open world is barebones, repetitive and just boring. I swear even something like Far Cry 3 wasn't as bad as this and that was released like 8 years ago.

Honestly have no idea how this game is getting the praise it is. If anything I just finished Call of Duty Vanguard the other day and the campaign for that was miles better, like the story missions were actually great (despite the story being trash). Shame how overlooked a lot of the Call of Duty campaigns are.

You are right. When The Weapon opens up the last portal, it sends the Master Chief three days into the future (at least for the MC and The Weapon). It's why Echo 216 is so surprised and happy to see the MC, as he figured he was dead.

Edit: I don't know if it is quite time travel though. Forerunner portals can sometime send you to another dimension/reality, where time passes differently while in them, compared to the outside world/reality. The concept was first intoduced in the Halo novel, Ghosts of Onyx.

On a semi related note, going back to Halo 3 in the MCC and going forward… and looking at the books. Any advice on how to play and follow the lore in the “proper” order? So many books 🤯.
so only lore that happens from the events of halo 3 and onward...?

well if you really want to get into the lore, you need to read fall of reach, first strike and ghost of onyx and contact harvest (which all happen before halo 3). there is lore in those books that needs to be well known before you can start to understand the story they unfolded after the events of halo 3. on the MCC, make sure you find and watch/view all of the terminals in halo 1 - 3 (the anniversary collections included some really important cutscenes, you can just look up a youtube video with all of them in a supercut). youre also going to want to read the the greg baer forerunner trilogy (cryptum, primordium and silentium).

additionally, 2 other things you might want to watch, the halo legends animated anthology (some of them are great, some of them are horrible, but there are little tid bits of info in the good ones that help flesh out the universe), also halo: forward unto to dawn (movie) if you want to get more familiar with Lasky and co, but those two arent necessary.

from there, its kind of complicated. halo: reach muddles some of the lore with contradictions and other weirdness but mostly keeps things intact (but it definitely retcons a few things, some like to say "clarify" but 🤷‍♂️), and halo 4 and 5 are important for the lore, but there are also books and comics in between each of those games that are important (which i havent read), and then there is halo wars 1 and 2 (which i havent played).

i havent read anything past the forerunner trilogy, and usually wind up just looking up what happened on youtube whenever a new game releases and i want to catch up on the lore. from what i hear, the newer books and comics arent as good, but some of them have essential lore events that you need to understand in order to keep up with all the changes that have happened in the universe. as it is now, im kind of lost lol, but still mostly understanding whats going on. but because i read most of the material leading up to Halo 4, im way better off than those who never had a good foundation for the lore.

im sure someone else could explain all this better, so dont crucify if im mixing up details

its honestly just easier to watch a youtube video that summarizes everything. heres a couple good ones. the first 13 minute long one covers most everything, but the other two are longer and more detailed if thats what youre looking for

I've been meaning to find something like that. I'm completely new to Halo so a bit lost at times. Thanks.

I've been playing the campaign the past few days and I'm having a blast. The gameplay is smooth like butter, absolute top notch. The grapplehook is a gamechanger and the open world is fun to traverse and explore.

Been kicking ass in the multiplayer as well. My last free for all game I posted the modest 25 kills to 8 deaths. Game of the past few years for me, no doubt.

Yeah, when it comes to their "Halo" franchises, they seem to do pretty well with them.
I guess when you say their “halo” franchises I could agree somewhat. But only a few of their IPs seem to get that halo treatment nowadays. One could also argue BOTW suffers from a lot of the same issues halo seems to have while still being a great game.

Just finished the campaign and although it's better than 4 and 5, I honestly don't get it at all.

The open world feels tacked on. It's as if they wanted a few broader missions with more freedom and just ended up creating a boring, repetitive, uninteresting world. Hardly any variety in how it looks and almost everything to do is the same. I can't be bothered to go back in and clear up all I missed. I don't think it adds anything to the game at all.

Also the campaign is quite short which isn't a bad thing but the ending comes out of nowhere the last hour or so? Then all the indoor linear parts look almost exactly the same, at least have some variety surely since there isn't much at all in the outdoor levels. Plus there's not exactly many enemy types, I kind of expected more.

Not to say it's a bad game but I'm shocked at the praise the campaign is getting. I'll admit the gameplay is smooth and it's fun here and there in parts especially with the grappling hook but the rest feels like I'm playing a game designed and released years ago, heck it's not even anything great graphically either.

Well start with Halo 3 terminals, maybe read the Forerunner trilogy books by Greg Bear and play Halo 4. Also Halo Wars 2, the antagonists in Halo Infinite were introduced in Halo Wars 2 but you can just watch the cutscenes in YouTube. The lore that Infinite is going forward with involves characters first mentioned in Halo 3 terminals then expanded with Forerunner trilogy books and formed the basis of Halo 4. Installation 00 made a video of the Halo 3 terminals with voice acting if you hate reading and this includes all the extra bits in legendary mode. The "Didact" in these terminals is Iso-Didact aka Bornstellar Makes Eternal Lasting, not Ur-Didact from Halo 4. Except for Terminal 6, where the Librarian meant Ur-Didact when she said "my love".

Apart from this I really hope you were paying attention to all of 343 Guilty Spark's dialogue in Halo CE library mission. Now watch the Halo CE Anniversary terminals.

You can also watch the Halo 2 Anniversary terminals but the CE Anniversary terminals have more future lore implications. Make sure to check out the Halo 4 terminals. If you don't like RTS games like me, you can just watch the Halo Wars 2 cutscenes in YouTube. Play every game in MCC. People say Fall of Reach but its not that essential unless you want to dive further into EU(extended universe).

Because of the legendary mode ending in Halo Infinite, you should know who Mendicant Bias(first referenced in Halo 2 and mentioned in Halo 3 terminals) and Offensive Bias(first mentioned in Halo 3 terminals) are for future.

And ofcourse the Precursor and Flood lore

Also read the Halo Reach data pads or watch the Installation 00 video discussing them

Halo Canon has made a video summarizing events of Halo 5 and everything else upto Halo Infinite if you don't want to play Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2.

You may also read the Halo Fractures short story Into the Fire and the Kelly Gay trilogy that continued it.

You can go deeper into things like the "Meddlers" and "Hollowmen".

If you still want to go deeper into lore follow Halo Canon and Installation 00 in YouYube for lore and theories and maybe even visit r/halostory. And keep diving deeper exploring the extended universe.

Darn, I think I had less to study for my ECE degree  , amazing thanks go to you and Kev Kev Kev Kev that took the time to compile this.

With all this material, I do wonder why it has been so difficult to get a series like The Expanse done for Halo… there is material for a lot of seasons too. Hopefully by the time the new series is done CG would have kept dropping in price and it will be possible to get multiple seasons (good thing about improvement in graphic techniques and HW is that TV CG is way past the point of good enough for a movie level of quality).

Just finished the campaign in Legendary difficulty. It was as difficult, if not more, than Halo2. Bosses and Hunters were tough, real tough. Amazing game, my feeling is that Halo combat has no equal in the gaming industry. The combat loop is close to perfection, though it probably shines more at Heroic difficulty than in Legendary, where you have to be more timid and less MasterChiefy.

If I delete my local install (original XBOX One), can I resume the campaign where I left off with the cloud version?

The reason I ask, I think my XBOX is screwing up. I've had numerous crashes and audio glitches. If I can stream it, it can't be any worse.

The more I play the game, the more I think I am starting to share your opinion, specially the one on MC (I enjoy MC interactions with The Weapon but that is mostly because of The Weapon); minus the Halo: Combat Evolved changing life thing - back then you could not get me to play any type of first person shooter.
