Halo: MCC Multiplayer "1th" patch "fix" live!

Is it unreasonable to think that MS has access to some of the best testing & dev tools available in the world? It's hard for me to imagine they didn't have a means to test this game properly. I could believe they didn't have time, but not the means.

I just can't make sense of the process and steps that happened and led to the release of the game and it's current state.

EDIT: Maybe I am wrong... I don't know :(
Think about it though. They fuck up every other version of Windows.
Windows ME
Windows Vista
Windows 8

They totally struck out in the mobile market with multiple versions of the OS. Verizon Nokia owners are still waiting for the Cyan update with the correct drivers for the icon

Then there is the complete Xbox One botch. This company gets a lot more wrong then it gets right.

Well I'd like to know what testing they actually did on matchmaking. Because it flat-out doesn't work - it's not just a little broken.

Let's take a moment to really put this into context. Halo CE, Halo 1, whatever you'd like to call it, now has Internet multiplayer available through XBL, 13 years after the original release. Despite that length of time inbetween the original release and this rerelease there is still no lag compensation in Halo CE's Internet games. The CE mp we're playing is effectively intended to function in a zero-latency splitscreen or system link environment. This is why one has to "lead" other players in Halo CE multiplayer to a varying degree dependent upon one's own latency.

In the most recent update, whoever was responsible for improving CE instead further deteriorated the CE mp experience by removing hit marker sounds - the audio cues that play to indicate a hit has registered. There's no visual feedback beyond the first bullet in CE, now there's no audio feedback either. These issues are separate from the matchmaking, but just as pathetic. Halo CE is my favorite game in the series and it's still just as inconsistent to play online as it was nearly a decade ago on PC.

It also bothers me that people vote for Halo 2 or 3 in the slayer playlist. Both of those titles already have multiple dedicated playlists, CE has none...

I've been trying to get in a match for the past 45 minutes. Nothing.

I think I'm gonna get a refund and sell my XB1 on ebay. I'm done with this. I don't want to support this company.

Have 343 said anything yet as to what's going on?

I was just going to post that things are running much more smoothly today. Just turned on my Xbox, joined a match on Burial Grounds with 16 players. Took 5 mins.

Tell me about it. All i get is: Team Slayer BR, Team Slayer BR, Team Slayer BR, Team Slayer BR, Team Slayer BR over and over. I had to stop playing cause i was fed up.

so.. it doesn't?

It does in that sense, is what I mean. People who have played H1 anniversary and Halo 3 knew that they were always P2P on Xbox 360, except for Halo 4 if I'm not mistaken. Even then you would think they would put every fucking thing under Azure which im sure it would have been possible if MS gave them the time to polish it up more. For me though, I am going through the campaigns and going after different things from collectibles, par time, difficulties, special requirements in completing a level.etc and I am enjoying it alot. The game has replay value up the ass but it's such a shame how half-assed the performance of the game is in terms of MP or basically communication side as a whole. MP, roaster, parties.etc are all fucked when it comes to this game.

I didn't experience hard locks in campaign when I'm playing alone. Only occurred to me 4 times on Halo 4 when I was playing co-op with 2 others thus I ruled out that problems never arise when you're alone based on the time I played the collection which is alot. It becomes apparent just how deep the problems are when you search for a MP game with another person in your roaster, it would be quite the miracle to find a game like that.

Sounds delicious... someone must have Turkey Day on their mind... XD

They need to stop telling Hitler all the bad news and some of the good news. Like he'll play the partial (like almost all betas) broken Halo 5 alpha/beta next month

Troubling times like these it pays to be a bit light hearted indeed, brother.

Oh well, at least I still have all those campaigns and cheevos, not to mention I just got Pokemon Omega Ruby. I can keep busy until shit gets more straightened out.

Yup, same here. That's why I am really enjoying this set SP wise and have been reliving some great bitter sweet memories with the games. All we could do now is wait but at the same time I feel for the people who only wanted to play MP or only could afford one or two games each month so I understand why people would want a refund as quick as possible so that they could get another game to play with.

real talk - i feel sorry for a lot of 343 employees who are probably going to be putting in 15 hour days up until thanksgiving trying to get this fixed.

What a cluster fuck.

Halo 5 first day sales will hopefully be affected.
It could help actually. Publications will be fearful of posting scores upon release for fear of the MP being broken, so only the less reputable places will score it, inflating the MC average.

The latest? The latest was supposed to be the patch...

Halo Waypoint post alluded to additional patch/patches coming soon down the pipeline. Anyone who seriously thought this would be the "be-all-end-all" patch that fixed near everything broken with MCC was delluding themselves.

That said, I understand folks' frustrations, but there's nothing WE can do about it at this current juncture.

IN B4 "No one should feel sorry for ANYONE at 343" post...

But yeah, I'm 100% with you there.

The reason I feel bad is because the people who are going to be putting in all of the overtime fixing this are most likely not the people who put them in this situation in the first place.

I dont think anyone thought that.

I think people thought the things 343 themselves put in the patch notes, specifically:
-Addressed a number of issues that resulted in extended matchmaking times and low matchmaking success rates.
-Made an update to ensure that parties stick together when returning from the post-game carnage report

Neither of those have happened. Matchmaking is no better and sometimes worse for most users. Parties break up after every game for me still.

11 hours later
57% installed.

I don't know why Destiny would install in 1.5 hours and halo would take what's looking like 20.

CE is 100%, Halo 4 is 100%, halo 2 is 43%, halo 3 is 0%.

Wish I could have chosen the order in which the games installed... because I don't give 2 shits about halo 4.

I obviously can't attest for other players, but my experience was that post-patch MM did IMPROVE for me playing solo. I tried fruitlessly to get into anything on the BTB playlist the first week to no avail, first attempt last night I got into a 7 v 8 H2 Team BR Slayer on Uplift and it ran mostly lag-free.

Again, what's most puzzling to me about this release in general to me is how bugs/networking/etc. are so damn inconsistently reported by folks and this patch looks like it continues this bizarre trend. For some folks the game runs almost entirely fine, for others, they can't seem to run MM or even campaigns. It's really odd to me.

Wow. Guess I am one of the only ones who bought this primarily for the campaigns. I'm getting my money's worth, at least. Sorry for you multiplayer-only peeps.

At this point the only way MS can save grace with this fiasco is to offer everyone who bought this game a free title of choice. No bullshit cheapo title I'm talking a 60 dollar new release. It's only fair at this point.

Nah, this really kicks Halo players in the balls. For the sake of the brand put 3 new remakes in the H2A playlist for free.

Halo 5 deserves lower sales because of Halo MCC bugs. Okay.

H5 sales deserve to be hit because this isn't the first time things were promised or presented in a way that they aren't by 343. Plus ADS.

It's evidently clear that they were rushed to release this for the holidays.

idk, halo 4 released in 2012. What else were they working on? They are huge, can they really not handle a remaster and collection of games someone else made? Now if design decisions fucked this up, the UI and all that well, that's on them. You can have all the great ideas in the world but it has to work.

Yeah, I feel bad for them, but I hope other devs take notice. If you're going to release a game in Nov/Dec, make sure it works so you can take the holidays off.

All I know is that the game is outsourced to kingdom come. Had it been made by 343 exclusively, we would have seen a way different and better outcome that's for sure.

I'm too scared to try campaign since I read reports of checkpoints not being saved. Otherwise, I would play SP until everything is sorted.
