Halo |OT 20| It really does feel like Halo

Those of you discussing the latest Bulletin on the Halo Channel and the pause at 1:05 you can see the list of Spartan AAs:

- Smart Scope (oh god wtf is this :()
- Thruster Pack
- Stabilizer (hover)
- Spartan charge (which if you look to the far left monitor you can see as hes sprinting his
< > reticule goes green over a friendly indicating a requirement for spartan charge to be sprinting
- Ground pound
- can't read last one
Oh no.

To be fair these models look nothing like what we've seen from IGN and that was official, I highly assume like the baseball card menus in the latest bulletin on Halo channel that they're completely placeholder. I mean the difference in those models compared to what we saw from IGN is like PS2 to PS4 era difference.

Honestly, I'm not really liking the idea that everyone will just jump around everywhere. I guess we'll wait for tonight, but still.

This. I'm not sure why 343 is such a fan of these dull desaturated colors. A tad bit of an increase in the saturation makes a nice difference.

Just realized by looking closer...

Nice SMGs there! :-D

Does this mean we're gonna go back to the SMG/BR starts debate all over again?

True, but he was mentioning getting headshots easily, I thought (making it seem like the super-pro Smart Pistol in Titanfall)... looks like they took down the article though.
His wording was: "Using the Smart Scope with the DMR meant headshots, and lots of them, though return fire now brings players back out of the scope as it did in previous Halo games."

Where are you getting that from? A bulletin video on the Halo Channel XB1 app?

Edit : Ah yeah, I bet you're right about the smart scope, Demon.

Halo 4: preview leaked from a barn.
Halo 5: preview written by a barn.

Can you imagine if an article like that appeared in the Wall Street Journal?

"This stock is kind of whatever with all of its moving up and down and also jetpacks and earnings. I bought a lot of shares with the new Smart Buy--which I'm totally not going to describe in any useful way because to me words are just things that come out of my mouth that only sometimes match the pictures in my head. Also: I'm so fucking sick of capital markets."

Hnnn... interesting. I like the thruster pack, for sure, but I'm not certain about the rest. We'll see how it looks in the reveal and the beta.

Can't wait to play the Halo 5 beta in December. Should prove definitive if there's any hope left for Halo to still be Halo. At least this time around we get a "free" beta to play and make an informed decsion.

At least the game looks super clean, hopefully no more annoying color filters or muggy tones.

I wonder if the boost is somewhere between pre-nerf and nerfed thrust.

Perhaps 'smart scope' is the term used for weapons that do not use the ADS aesthetic?
Yeah, I bet you're right. I don't see it being a Spartan Ability, though. That makes no sense.

I lol'd.

"Video Game Journalism" in the year 2014 everyone!

I like how they said they changed the color of Lockout due to a blue advantage and Halo 5 has a map that is almost entirely the same shade of blue as the players. Granted, it was CA who handled Lockout and 343 with 5. That map looks awesome though. The ground pound, vault and double jump seem dumb, like the sound of thruster pack though.

I no longer have interest in playing the beta.

This sounds like a B game designers masterpiece.

Easily alol9.

IMO, it needs to cover a distance greater than the Halo 4 thruster pack, but maybe not as far as Reach's Evade. I do like the idea of only one use before cooldown, but I always thought Halo 4's cooldown for thruster pack was still too long. Maybe a cooldown of about 4 seconds or so?

EDIT: Maybe the "Thruster Pack" is what's used to achieve all the movement options? In that way, once airborne, you then have to decide to either hover, double-jump or ground pound?

Didn't this guy say he was getting headshots with it? I don't trust him to get headshots with a traditional Halo scope.

My hype level has weathered this storm and I am still anxiously awaiting MCC and the 1080p 60fps (mostly) that come with it.

Nope. It's many times worse

Please stop calling this game halo 5. It isn't a halo game.
Hyperbole is nice

It really is. Being able to tell exactly what your opponents options are is a huge step up from the roulette that was Reach and 4. Unless the abilities are well and truly broken, this is nothing but good news for the skill gap.

So, so much better than spawning with just one of a selection of possible AAs it's not even funny.

True dat. Take Destiny's Crucible for example. It's not bad, hell it's even downright FUN at times, but I'll tell you what it's God-damn frustrating when you round a corner never knowing if the enemy on the motion tracker is just gonna pull out a Super from their back pocket and OHKO you.

We don't know how they work, so it's too early to say, but I can imagine them being implemented in a way that just adds to the toolset. There's no reason this stuff has to conflict with the spirit of Halo. These are radical changes, yes, but if they are in line with what Halo has tried to achieve in the past, then I'm open minded.

Except for vaulting over walls. That sounds totally pointless, lol.

Perhaps. My concern is just being able to do exactly what you want, when you want it. Everyone knows how annoying it could be to unintentionally trigger assassination animations.

Yeah the ledge grabbing is eh imo but we'll see how it works.

Speaking of which, I wonder if those will be back.

True. Still, I'm mostly thinking about how they compare to the AAs in Reach and 4. Even the better AAs were still effectively random from a player perspective; maybe that guy has thruster pack, or maybe he's got the hard light shield, or maybe... it meant that whatever potential they might have had as a tool to increase the skill gap was totally squandered, since nobody (NOBODY!) could be prepared for every eventuality. Making them a known quantity is much, much better.

You seem to not understand what hyperbole is.

In relation to this: "this looks good!" Is hyperbole

"This isn't a halo game" is fact.

Opinions, how do they work?

I'll agree, but I have to admit my inner 10-year-old was giddily awakened everytime I assassinated someone even if only to have my own death immediately follow. So it was satisfying to a point.

Yup, agreed. We're already used to watching out for melees, possession of power weapons, grenades, etc. And in Halo 2 we had to watch out for the added variable of button glitches -- something many people praised. Now we have a whoooole lot else to watch out for. Some of it might be terrible, some of it might work really consistently with the classic Halo formula.

Speaking of SMG starts, I'm curious about starting weapons. The preview (ugh) mentioned that people had SMGs, the DMR rifle [sic], and the pistol? I doubt it's a 3 weapon start, so I'm thinking they might be doing one of SMG/pistol, DMR(or BR, god only knows what this guy thinks a DMR is)/pistol or DMR/SMG depending on map or gametype.

I get your frustrations man. Halo has to evolve in some form to keep going though. How would you change things around but still keep it Halo?

I will point out that all evidence we have thus far of "evolving Halo gameplay" has in fact led to lower and lower population numbers.
