If you were that low on health, why didn't you hang back and hit the sentinels from range?

:s

This was my experience the first time playing CE Legendary solo when I was like 15...
...older and wiser now of course :x

All hail the CE Banshee and it's hovering ability!

These ODST guys are getting crazy

After replaying the games

Halo 3 > Halo 4 > Halo 2 > Halo 1

I don't know where I would fit reach and ODST in there because It's been a while since I played ODST.

before replaying the games it probably would have been:

HALO 1 > HALO 4 > HALO 3 > HALO 2

The back half of halo 1 is absolutely terrible and it ruined this game for me. It's frustrating and unendurable. I used to play this game a lot growing up but I think I must have skipped everything after assault on the control room because it's downright terrible. The first half was amazing and the story is pretty cool but it's fairly straightforward.

Halo 2 ramped up the story telling considerably but the levels were fairly short and unmemorable except for a few at least.

Halo 3 is GOAT tier, I didn't appreciate it when I played it back then but the game is truly a masterpiece. No other game has captured being apart of a battle for civilization like this game has. It's simply incredible and it continues the amazing story of halo 2. Every level just ramps up the scale and intensity, I was blown away replaying this game.

Halo 4 is pretty amazing too, I loved the story telling here however that's because I sought out each terminal and watched them all. Without that it's pretty nonsensible. The gameplay is pretty fantastic here... It dropped a lot of the open world approach of the previous games which I actually appreciated, the gunplay was improved and the graphics are amazing. It really is it's own game with its own story and I'm curious to see where 343 takes this series.

New patch did almost nothing it seems. I decided to be a shit and just nearly team kill everyone in the match. Everyone but me left the game.

People bail out of matches on MCC like crazy. I'm never touching multiplayer in halo again. Bye old friend.

If there is one thing I've learned in my ongoing play through of Halo 1 through 4, it's that the flood are more interesting when you try to outrun them. I probably only killed 50 flood in the Library and I actually enjoyed playing it.

Big Team just crashed two times in a row. Anyone else having this problem?

Edit: I'm gonna move this to the MMC OT.

Any news on that live action H5G trailer?

Worked well enough last night for me aside from a couple issues. CE is so damn good on dedicated servers....even though I suck at it.

Now just make all the playlists BR starts.

Yesterday I was straight up sucking, but I couldn't stop playing.

I think I actually got into a game with you and you weren't sucking, I think you went something like +23 or had 23 kills on brever creek (I went like 2, but had 10 or more assists). I am learning to hate SMG starts. What is TTK on those? 5-6 seconds?

I've been having such a blast playing the game with my friends now that we can stay connected. Definitely still running into normal Halo issues. Quitters, teammates killing over power weapons, and people thinking that pro vision is acceptable.

But those are all normal Halo things, they don't bother me after dealing with this game for the past few months. I mean party chat still sucks at times, but I'm starting to believe it's all a xbone issue.

Glad to finally have Halo working again.

I'm going to rank the campaigns, and then the MPs

Campaign

Reach>ODST>Halo 1>3>2>4

MP (competitively speaking)

1>2>Reach ZBNS>3>>>>>>>>4

MP in which I had the most fun playing

3>Reach>2>1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>4

I hear the mod scene on the bone is pretty huge! Stupid MS!
No, but we should at least have a Custom Games Browser by now. That would help Halo similarly to how mods help UT in that they provide the fanbase with the possibility to play how they want with more ease.

The PC market and Console market are so different. There are games that are success on PC that would be brushed aside in the console market. UT included.

Either way, ADS is cosmetic other than being added to automatics which is bleh but whatever. Headshot bonus for ADS autos is going away. DMR visibility (the biggest ADS offender) is being improved.

Sprint... it's gonna stay in the base game. But at least if you want to play classic customs you can turn off every single spartan ability in the game, including sprint. Strafe acceleration and movement speed are getting increased. Sprint speed getting decreased so you can move at normal speed and the gap between sprint and no sprint will be smaller (curious to see how much smaller)

I'd love to play some classic customs with you guys though. Because the aiming and shooting in H5 was without a doubt the best in the series as far as online play goes.

And would help with the awful playlists selection/ rotations 343 provides

Bungies double xp/fiesta/ constant rotating playlists is no more.

Not a template, but clearly influenced.
Is it really?

CoD hardly invented ADS and Sprint. Halo 5 doesn't even have actual ADS.

I can see visual ADS might be an attempt to grab at more of the casual market, however considering it's effects on the gameplay are pretty minimal I don't see how that's a bad thing. More people playing and enjoying Halo is a good thing.

I'd say Halo 2 at 60 FPS has the best aiming and shooting feel. It's definitely the most responsive of all the games, and seems to have the best tuning of aim acceleration and such. The reticle moves exactly as you'd expect it to, and it does so quickly. Player movement is also the tightest and most responsive, especially compared the Halo 3 which constantly feels like you're ice skating in a straight jacket.

Unfortunately the auto-aim and bullet magnetism are a tad on the excessive side, though. And by a tad, I mean a lot.

Halo 5 did feel better than the other titles though. Scoped weapons felt weird though, the sniper and the DMR especially.

I'm hoping that the reduced time to scope on the sniper helps out with that weapon's issues. I'm also really curious to see how it works on larger maps.

Actually, it very well might have. I was an avid PC FPS player back in the day, and I can't recall any game that used iron sights as a major game mechanic before Call of Duty 1. I remember being intrigued by it in the initial videos.

It became one of the major differentiating features from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, which was the other World War II FPS franchise and still one of the top non-CS shooters at the time. The groups I played with tended to split their time between CoD and MoHAA as a result, as did I.

Was the ADS really that bad for you? After my first H5 game I practically forgot it was there aside from the DMR.

Really don't understand the people so offended by something so trivial.

MCC Halo 2 has some hit detection issues though and like you said, the auto aim is absurd. Player movement felt the best in the series though. Hopefully H5's base movement and strafe increases bring it up to speed.

DMR scope lacked visibility and sniper scope was a bit glitched. They are addressing both issues. Hope to see a vidoc or sprint or something about the changes. Like footage of the new visual changes to maps, the new intro and outros, the new scope, and maybe someone from the pro team doing a sick strafe.

Whether COD invented them or not really isn't the issue. If you take COD and 2007-ish Halo and put them on opposite sides of a scale, where is Halo 5 going to fall? With the exception of shields- which at this point I would venture is now the last significant differentiator- the mechanics and gameplay of Halo 5 look alot more like COD (AW especially) than Halo CE/2/3.

I'm sure that's fine for some people, but for many, it isn't. At all.

(and this wasn't directed at you, Dwells, I know you were responding to Jem)

Yo, so MCC is fixed now?

Like for real?
"Fixed" is a strong word.

It's in roughly the state you'd expect a rushed port collection to be in at launch. The playlist and map settings are still bad, there are still numerous issues with the ports, and people are still having occasional glitchy experiences. But it is much better at finding games than it was.

That moment when, after trying for an hour to beat that section legitimately, you say "fuck it" and use aforementioned cheese method, escaping with the banshee with only one or two bars of health... only to die nearly instantly to the sentinels guarding the entrance to the final pulse generator.

True story. One of the most challenging/frustrating campaign sections (Legendary) across the entire series.

Yeah, this. I did the shotty / plasma pistol only achievement on Legendary and no matter how many times I tried cheesing with the Ghost, the Banshee ends up way too damaged to survive taking off / fighting Sentinels. I didn't want to take any chances so I ended up clearing out the entire area, Wraiths included.

Yes. This is just common sense given the popularity of CoD and the features those games have.

Whether that's good or bad is a more complicated issue, but I would personally err on the side of not good. Instead of making decisions in regards to pure, fun gameplay, they are making some of them based on other games- and then working around that. In essence, they seem to be adding mechanics not because they are inherently good, but because they are popular.

This is not the best plan for making a fun game, but it might be for a best-selling game.

No argument. They're terrible additions.

I enjoyed their additions. You still have the same great accurace without using ADS, and when you do it you need to use it safe, otherwise it can kill you.

The sprint, together with some melees and the jetpack can make the battles very fast paced, and some really nice stuff happening. For example, I saw a record from someone here on GAF, that the player was being chased by another one, but he managed to jump and dash behind the guy and completely reverse the situation killing him with a backstab.

The gameplay in Halo 5 was pretty damn great. What worries me are the technical issues that MCC still suffers.

I just hurtle through the door and GTFO.
Yeah, that's another option (certainly the one used in speedruns).

The Sentinels trash the Banshee in CE, it's not worth even trying to fight them.
It's a bit clumsy if you don't have the health to spare. If you do, though, splattering them is a blast.

//====================

Another option:

Steal a banshee early, wreck everything with it, then fly off with a full-health banshee.

:D

When you say "look like", I hope you mean that extremely literally. Otherwise, this statement tells me you never player AW and/or Halo 5.

Agreed. Halo 2 just feels 'right'.

I've played both, thanks.

And I mean look like as in, they share many more features now than they did when COD4 was released. Sprint, ADS, large maps with long corridors and engagements that often involve chasing down players. Hit Markers, medals for nearly every action you perform. These are now elements shared by both games that were not shared by both games in 2007.

Are you suggesting that COD has not had a massive influence on the development of Halo 5? Because everything I've listed there says otherwise.

With Clique still (apparently) MIA, does anyone want to join forces with me to help reboot the first "post-patch" MCC Throwdown for this Saturday?

I feel like I'm the only one who had very few issues with Halo 5. It played like a better style of how I play Halo 4. Infinite sprint, thruster pack and dexterity for a very quick feeling Spartan. I enjoy using thrust to confuse an opponent, or running a lap around someone just to get away.

Yes maybe raising the base speed will make us utilize sprint less, which is what some want. But without it I can't see classic weapons like the sword/shotgun getting any use without outright camping. And lord knows it was tough enough to get close to another player in the beta. I know many people hate the melees and close quarters battles but to me it's an inherent part of my gameplay. And sprint allows me to get close and kill the players who may be better shots at a distance.

I enjoyed it and could care less what they "take" from other games. It was fun and felt like a new age Halo, which is what I want. As long as the release isn't botched like MCC I think I'll love it.
