No, I will day 1 them when they come out for 3ds VC.
I did beat Link's awakening recently though. good game.

Link to the past in the ocarina engine. Mother of god.

Yea whenever the fuck that will be.

I played some of Link's Awakening and just stopped for whatever reason. I'll go back to it though for sure.

Could you imagine Nintendo's A-team doing a brand new 2D Zelda like a Link to the Past? That's dream come true shit right there.

I think part of the beaty of LTTP is the simplicity afforded by the 2D engine. It wouldn't be as pure, as perfect, if it was in 3D.

Did anyone here play Graal? My friends were obsessed with that game back in the day. It was basically LttP online (MMO style).

I just enjoyed building levels and scripting weapons offline, but maybe that's because I only had dialup.
Yeah, I tried it out when I heard about it from someone while playing Odyssey, another free MMO thing from the '90s. Didn't play much though, just thought to myself "cool, this looks a lot like Zelda" then never touched it again.

Much faster? The length of the progression systems in Reach and Halo 4 are in different universes. After 2 years of Reach, I got through roughly a third of the progression system based on credits. After a week of Halo 4, I calculated that I would finish the progression system in 3 months. I'm probably off that pace a bit now, but the progression system is still very short in this game. I assume they plan to add more down the road because I can't think of a major MP game in recent history with a progression system nearly this short.

Kinda blows my mind how fast progression is and how odd the XP system is. There doesn't seem to be any longevity to it, and its odd that weapons, mods, and AAs were unlocked in it so early. If it was so early, what was the point at all? Its just odd.

Also, Challenges. I'm disappointed by them at this point.

Why don't you get into the driver seat and let the Marine who is standing right next to the thing when you enter the area operate the turret? The AI won't get in immediately for whatever reason, but as soon as Phantoms start dropping in he'll hop on, and until then there's a rock right there to shield you if you drive forward a little bit. That's what I've done for each of my runs, it hasn't failed me yet.

Interesting. On both of my runs, that gentlemen has suicidal levels of ambition and an extreme prejudice against riding in Warthogs with Spartans.

I played it religiously, but not much after it got violated sideways, forwards and inside-out by hackers. Someone spawned a main boss in the central town and yeah things didn't end well

I would rather a brand new 3DS Zelda. Either 2D or 3D.

Have you played the Oracle games for GBC? They're godly.
I managed to leave my GBC on an airplane during a family vacation with a half-beaten Oracle of Seasons in it. Still makes me so sad. Never ended up getting a replacement.

No. I wish but Nintendo is long done with 2D, if they do another major 2D game, I'll be surprised.

Agree. I guess I was implicitly saying, I didn't see any reason other than marketing. I suspect they were looking for ways to add value to the LE, and given the emphasis on digital content, it sounds like something that would have emerged from marketing discussions. As you said, if it were a balance thing, 343 would have not granted early access to so many and created a schism in the player base purely for marketing purposes.

I wish I had more confidence in that last sentence than I do. :(

It seems to me that if 343 wanted to meter or throttle player progression so a relative handful of players didn't blast through and get the specializations early, the way to do that is by limiting XP accumulation. And there we again have mixed messages: Double XP Dew! Also, daily XP cap.

Sort of like, only two specializations unlocked at launch! Unless you buy the game early (in the US) or the LE.

It's a needlessly convoluted and self-conflicting setup. The game and community has not been well served by it.

It definitely seems like marketing is running the show there. Several of the game design decisions scream marketing involvement just to tick some more boxes. Which is disappointing since 343 obviously employs some very intelligent people.

So I finished all of the first 5 episodes of Spartan Ops and no cheevo. Anyone know if this is happening to others also? I went back and checked to make sure I had done them all and I had.

Also had 2 matches yesterday that had 15 or more kills and 0 deaths and no daily challenge. Not a phrase I use very often, but WTF?

I'm astounded at how quickly they're recycling them. Drop Bears, Exterminate! Exterminate!, Deadeye have all been repeated several times already? Another Kingslayer weekly? Having the same monthly twice in a row? It's incredible.

Plus, you have a huge number of them like Take the Hill! that require the player to go into specific playlists to get them. That's all well and good if a playlist is on the decline and they're trying to breathe some new life into it, but when they're doing just fine I'd rather be able to get the challenges playing whatever I want. That's something Reach challenges, no matter how poorly designed some of them were, excelled at. You were restricted into modes by category, like Firefight/Campaign/Multiplayer, but beyond that you played whatever you wanted to get them. It doesn't seem like 343 learned to get rid of challenges that dramatically affect player behavior, either. The Sticky Grenade/Assassination challenges from Reach were awful in this regard, and stuff like Drop Bears continues the trend.

I really like the structure they've set up, but the content is lacking.

Same here. You'd think they would have had someone meticulously plan out the first two months of challenges.

It would only take 2 months, because at this rate there are going to be a gazillion maxed out XP players after 2 months. I think once people hit 130, they will lose interest unless 343 introduces something that will raise the SR max.

Spartan Ops is self-aware (line from chapter 2 of this week's episode). Roland:
"This whole Spartan Ops thing is pretty darn exciting! Although this mission here, maybe not so much."
And having just completed that mission: accurate.

I'm really enjoying Roland's lines in general. He's almost like satire poking fun at the rest of the writing.

It's actually kind of odd. In parts Palmer definitely seems to be breaking the fourth wall with her exclamations that "yep, you're going back there to fight".

There's going to be people playing non-stop that don't have jobs or responsibilities or just have a lot of vacation time that are going to chew through any progression system. There's no way to make one that's attainable for general players and that also won't be beaten in a month after launch.

So far it seems like a better version of the Reach's ranks, at least.

I hope we'll get some extra loadouts added. I want to have a mix of different stuff in loadouts and ones for specific modes.

5 isn't enough.

Some friend of a friend joined our party saying that he didn't get the Achievement either when playing solo, but played one mission with us co-op and got it. Me and a friend got it as soon as we finished the last mission together though.

Not enough bandwidth.

That's a reasonable excuse, but at the same time they had someone plan out how the playlist rotation is going to work for the initial couple of weeks. I would have thought that challenges would have landed in the same ballpark of responsibilities.

Get out! I'd die if jetpack was ever removed from Halo.

Not to single you out, but I think you're the only person I've ever heard defend jetpack in regular multiplayer.

We're talking about Zelda again? Now that's my type of Halo discussion! I think I'm going to buy a Wii and try Twilight Princess again soon, but this time the GC version. I wonder if the superior camera controls will make me like it more. I'm curious to go back to it nonetheless.

Gamecube version has gotten fairly expensive though. I regret selling mine, but I'm really not a fan of TP.

I think over Christmas break I'm finally gonna play LttP.

It sucks that I only have the Wii version because 6 years after launch, waggle controls to replace a button press is worse than ever. So immersive to have to wave this remote to unsheathe my blade.

It does a body good.

Ahh, really? I might just replay Wind Waker then.

And that's awesome that you're finally gonna play LTTP. I'm pretty sure it's my favorite, though Link's Awakening is very close. I'm going to finally play through Super Metroid whenever I get a Wii. Metroid is one of my favorite series, and I still haven't played the supposed best entry. I'm stoked.

So this zelda lark should I start playing them I'm somewhat interested but iv never played any of them where do I start

Edit: Cyren I'll have an invite aswell

Wind Waker was OK, but that time sink towards the end (I think you have to sail around collecting like a crazy amount of pieces or somethin) just almost killed it near completely for me. Don't think I ever finished cause of that.

I understand and appreciate that they didn't make you play for months on end to get access to all the weapons, but why they didn't extend aesthetic unlocks and such for much longer than the system currently does is truly odd.

Yeah, challenges suck so far. Reusing a monthly on the second month. Wat

So that Halo 2 gametype I made is REALLY close to playing exactly like Halo 2. Will host customs after work tonight, get the remakes ready!

Oh get this guys, there is now a slayer variant with....NO SPRINT!

Thank you modders!
(I actually REALLY like Sprint)

I need this.

I like how "the horrible hackers that ruin games" are giving us more options without proper tools or RESOURCES than 343 was able to give us.

Also ALTTP is the best Zelda followed closely by TWW and OOT. Then again, I'm sure someone will come in here and accuse me of nostalgia tainting my opinion because ALTTP had button glitches and nodders....oh wait, wrong series.

Since you've never played one before, I'd start with Skyward Sword. It's the easiest to obtain and it's great for beginners. Plus, it's chronologically the first game in the series.

Wind Waker was OK, but that time sink towards the end (I think you have to sail around collecting like a crazy amount of pieces or somethin) just almost killed it near completely for me. Don't think I ever finished cause of that.

Yeah, that part is definitely a grind. It's worth doing though because the ending dungeons in the game are so awesome.

Despite feeling like ODST is the better Firefight experience of the two, I do wish they went a little farther with the arcadey survival aspect. Make it a single life, with no additional lives added. Make the initial ramp smaller so that I feel like I'm always concerned with my well being, instead of having it gradually happen forty minutes in or so. I'd have played it obsessively like that, shorter games but longer time spent playing it overall.

This achievement was just pointless actually.

No Easy Way Out 20
In Ch 1, Ep 5 of Spartan Ops survived the enemy assault during the defense on Normal or harder.

I dunno who chose this Cheevo, you have unlimited lives, there is no way you can fail.

Link to the Past is still the best one ever. I wish Nintendo would just make a mildly isometric version of that, with the same mechanics, or go full Skyrim (although really I'm thinking Red Dead Redemption).

I think Link to the Past is really a great intro to the series. Pretty accessible, but still challenging. Great 2D sprite graphics, fun variety, well designed dungeons. The easiest way to legitimately play it is via the GBA port or the Wii virtual console.
