Halo |OT12| Last One Out, Get the Lights

What type of changes require a TU, and what things can just be added/removed in a normal update?

Considering MP is a 2 gig download, they could have an update in the same vein as the BF updates where you just redownload the maps/MP with drastic changes made.

Or at least I assume they could make it work like that.

I don't believe it's tied to any commendation, and outside of the pre-order bonuses, the only way to get it is through the Halo 4 King of the Hill iOS game (which I have yet to figure out how to do).

After one attack, I have to either buy Doritos/Dew or go to a 7/11 for more attack points and capture the hill. ugh not worth it at all

You realize each side is red/blue tinted? I didn't notice until last night.

Also, fellow HaloGAF, keep me in your thoughts, I'm going through some terrible personal issues, and I've about hit my limit today. My son & nightly games of Halo are the only thing keeping me sane. Thanks <3

Hope everything goes well.

They should randomly determine the list of personal ordinances at the beginning of the game. Each team has an identical list. They are doled out in the same order. Example: team 1 gets the incinerator option in the 3rd ordinance, team 2 gets the incinerator option in the 3rd ordinance. This would at least make things somewhat more even, imo, only thing not being even is that the person who gets it might not be ideal, lol.

That would be a good start.

This really is the best solution and exactly what I was thinking. One team should not start with a binary rifle while the other team gets plasma grenades/needler.

My biggest problem with the global ordnance system right now is that it is susceptible to malfunction due to flaws in network communications. Many times we won't get notifications on the initial drop, or the waypoints will report the incorrect weapon, and it seems subsequent drops are either very rare, not reported, or both.

I've encountered this glitch far too often.

Thanks guys, you really don't know how something as simple as arguing/interacting about Halo can keep your mind off the bad shit going on in your life.

In your example you make the point that comebacks like you describe can't happen without knowing in advance where power weapons will spawn, and I'd disagree with that. No, you can't predict that in Halo 4, but that doesnt stop you from acquiring them and utilizing them in a plan of attack.

Instead of "hey guys, lets push up and get those rockets", it's more "OK guys, I've got rockets, lets push up turret-side". It's more about seizing opportunities as they present themselves instead of planning them out in advance, but neither way seems to me to be 'damaging'.
I was specifically citing the situation where you are behind, don't have power weapons, and the other team does, citing an actual game that took place in the example. There will be fewer come from behind victories in those situations because you cannot make plans based on ordnance locations. There's a healthy injection of luck into the equation. And I think that does damage the game.

I can think back on scores of games where the outcome would have been taken out of our hands and determined by the behind the scenes ordnance dice roll. I think that's a decidedly bad thing. I get the sense you guys have adapted, which is cool. But it's one of many bridges too far for me.

(There's more to it as well. But I really don't have it in me to berate the game further. I do not like it, Sam-I-Am.)

You know what's fucking stupid? The number of credits you get from SpOps doesn't change no matter the difficulty your on.

Good shit 343.
I didn't think I'd miss campaign/spops scoring, commendations, etc. as much as I have.

Also, managed to get 10 regicides in one game without deliberately going for the weekly, but seriously, fuck that.

Halo4, I don't love nor hate it, the game is just kinda there and I'm playing it because of the name on the box, monotonously going through the meaningless "sprint/shoot/die-randomly" motion while feeling dead on the inside and wondering why I keep playing it. At least Reach made me feel anger and frustration because of its shitty flaws and how much better it could've been with some tweaks, this one just makes me feel nothing, like it's some random souless flavor of the month game and not a fucking Halo.. sigh.

I would kill for the next Bungie game to have a original Halo trilogy-style MP component.

Sorry to hear that, man. Wishing you better times soon.

'Bout to beast out on some Easy after I unlock Fast Track.

I spent 6 hours in Forge last night and it is pretty damn incredible how big of a difference magnets make in completing a map quickly. I had an entire Dominion map built in like 1 hour. It is a hell of a lot of fun to construct the Dominion objectives in Forge too.

I definitely do miss the precision controls for random decorative pieces though. But for the most part, Forge is way easier to use this time around. No more having to add a shitload of walkways and ramps and just cross your fingers that they match up together for the symmetrical sides.

Hope everything turns out good Ram.

And on topic, credits for SpOps on easy are as much as for legendary? What...

In a way, I'm glad that the XP doesn't scale for Spartan Ops, considering that the lower difficulties will have to be played in order to max out the lower-ranked enemy commendations at any sort of reasonable rate. On Heroic and Legendary, it's skewed so far towards Officers and Generals that I have maxed those two out already but are on like 2/5 for Elite Infantry.

Got you in my thoughts man. I have been dealing with very ill family members and it certainly is nice to have games and things to fall back on.

The ability to troll people in Oddball by throwing the ball at them and shooting them when they're confusedly now carrying it is simultaneously awful and hilarious.

Keep strong, Ram.

Again, please understand I an not opposed to altering the "classical interpretation of competition in Halo". I've actually been one of the guys more open to evolving the game around here. I am objecting to what I think is a system that harms the game in general.

Your objections seem built upon preferences reinforced by playing the prior Halos. If auto-pick up was always in Halo, one would argue that it forces you to be aware of your surroundings so that you don't accidentally pick up the flag. There is nothing random about that situation - it's your own doing.

My own disclaimer: I'm not saying your problems with the game are just you trying to chase past ghosts. I more or less just deal with ordnance as implemented. They do introduce more randomness in the game but I would not explicitly call it detrimental to the game, as you would. I never feel like I don't have a fighting chance thanks to the base gameplay, so it doesn't infringe on my enjoyment of the game. It does bring an element of real-time adapting (which NullPointer brought up) which I've come to like.

saying that the outright bad design choices shoved into this game only harms one "interpretation" of Halo is a really, really bad and disingenuous thing to say because it's literally the equivalent of saying "I like that Halo 5 added Global Vehicle Ordinance drops, I know you other guys who play BTB and analyze its strategies don't like it, but Halo's different now, so your interpretation has no place in 343's New Framework For Basic FPS Mechanics"

It's not disingenuous at all to understand that the core of Halo still exists and that the surrounding systems only influence said core - not define it. Your little example is disingenuous because I'm not telling people who liked classic BTB to deal and that their opinion has no place. Their opinion is as legitimate as those who want the changes.

'Join in progress' they said. Our networking code is 'silky smooth' they said.

Gaaah. Too many blackscreens and too much rubberbanding!

You could do this in CE as well, except there was a little trick that allowed you to get out of auto-pickup. It made for some pretty funny matches where I would troll someone with the oddball, but when they tried doing it back, it wouldn't work.

I wonder if there's something like that in this game. Don't have a copy to test though :/

YEAR OF THE TRIPLE A BLOCKBUSTERS!

jkr7Y8NGWgwhH.png

GOTY is Mark of The Ninja, suckers.

Assassin's Creed III was a massive disappointment (6 hour opening? Jeeez)
Halo 4's multiplayer has some very questionable changes and I'm not entirely sure if I like yet
Blops II is just a mess. Don't even know where to begin.

So much disappointment this year. GTAV looks awesome though... hopefully 2013 is better.

Borderlands 2 is GOTY easily.

Just waiting for a GOTY edition with all of the DLC included before I buy this.

So far I'm really enjoying Halo 4. Don't know what all the vitriol is stemming from around here, but for the most part the game is solid. Yes there are things we would all change, but this is so much better than Reach.

I'm still playing AC3 and I absolutely like it. The main missions are a little bit too short, but all in all it's a great game, imo.

Naval missions are a really cool addition to the series and it's just pure fun.

If I had to rank the AC games it would be the following: AC1 > AC3 = AC2 > AC Brotherhood >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> AC Revalations

(Story and gameplay combined)

Hope everything turns out good for you Ram.

Personal Ordnance Drops are acting silly sometimes, especially when you are on ramps or something similiar. Will upload a vid tommorow.

GOTY for me is still Mass Effect 3. No other game made me feel the way it did all the way through and at the end.

Halo 4 is the best recent game IMO. Borderlands 2 was boring as hell.

X-COM tops my list (as much as I'd like to give it to a Halo release). Man, I hope that game sold well. Also, don't sleep on Sleeping Dogs (get it?).

Also, having to max out "Faction X Ordnance Mastery" for three player stances seems incredibly silly given that some of those weapons just don't appear very often. Grifball looks like it'll be the only place to find a Gravity Hammer, the Beam Rifle doesn't appear on any map outside of Personal Ordnance, the Shotgun is relegated almost exclusively to Dominion (where it is laughably useless) and Personal Ordnance. Just seems like a waste to gate aesthetic customization options behind ridiculously difficult/long-term commendations, especially since there are so few of those stances.
