I doubt there will be. Technically, there weren't any new buttons on the 360 controller (not if you include the guide). It was just re-designed. Unlike the Xbox controller though, the 360 controller has reached peak success. I don't see them changing it much and tbh, with the PS4 controller not changing the layout of their joysticks (the touch pad won't change much in-game wise), I still find the 360 controller a better product.

I imagine MS will prolong the battery and the guide button will shine actual designs on it instead of a ring of lights to project low battery, friend is online, and whatnot (you can also edit the brightness). And the new D-pad will be standard.

Nah, an idea for Durango. Would be nice though. That thing is a beacon in a dark room.

Yeah, let's add a bit more to this...

After you do that, to successfully get the reroll you need to match a set of directions given to you (like a Simon Says).
Steitzer could even tell them to you: "UP, DOWN, LEFT, UP".

Up on d-pad is used for Ordnance re-roll. Yes, that is the entire purpose of wasting a button on the controller. I couldn't believe it the first time I saw it either.

It feels like the Halo franchise has this weird, long term form of feature creep. The serial nature means people want something new with each release, but really, there aren't any mechanics missing from the formula. Even under Bungie, it felt like most of Halo's innovation came from networking and other periphery, not the gameplay. For the franchise's health, I think it'd be best for the games to subvert the weird feature creep that's been hounding them for so long. Personally, I can think of a few ways:
A - Keep to the Bungie method. Focus innovation on the theater, the networking, the map making, et cetera.
B - Completely change the game. Third person action adventure, racing, whatever. 343 will be able to build and add features to a game that will actually need defining.
C - Become a platform a la TF2, Dota, Starcraft 2. If it's a platform, you aren't faulted for sticking to the core gameplay because it becomes acknowledged as a singular system to be tweaked, not "refreshed". Besides, this fits with what Bungie had been doing -- keeping the core similar from game to game while innovating the features that surround it.

I think when Halo as a franchise has built up such great antagonists, alien race designs and a constantly expanding scale for the universe at large, it would be pretty damn boring to just fight humans, even augmented humans, in campaign. It'd just lose the lustre of what makes Halo fun when you bring it back down to a human vs. human level many players can get in every other FPS.

Outside of the mainline games, perhaps. After 343 shoehorned the covenant to be the main bad guys again, I don't think we'll get something new.

There's a reason I come to GAF as opposed to other sites. It's so we don't have to deal with a lot of trolls and flamers.
