Halo |OT16| Oh Bungie, Where Art Thou?

They will NEVER do this. Selling armor visa microtransactions is a way to get MORE revenue, not a way to displace one form of income for another. Thinking that selling armor will get us all free DLC is delusional.

eh I don't think so. If free DLC was offered more players may actually come back to play the game + and might say "wow these playlists aren't as awful as before," and continue to play. And if more people stay that means more people to spend money on pointless armor.

I really could care less if microtransactions are implemented so people can buy armor. It's only when it impacts gameplay that I would be pissed.

It has to deal with putting them as textures on every model. I don't remember the specifics of it, but there isn't enough memory to map them on to every armor so you either cut armor or cut emblems. There was an HBO thread about why certain emblems from 3/ODST not making it into Reach.
Apparently Bungie does hold copyright over at least some of the famous emblems from Halo, such as the Splatter icon, the Septagon, and the Marathon logo. Of course, all of these have their meta-purposes beyond Halo. And as far as I know, Halo 4 has a very similar Splatter medal to previous Halo games, so it wouldn't surprise me if there was some agreement between Bungie and MS/343 to use certain images without any legal issues.

Mass Effect 3 says hi!

It worked for TF2.
Are either if those properties owned by Microsoft or developed by 343?

It would take a massive paradigm shift to give all Halo DLC away for free. Six years on and they're still selling Halo 3 DLC. They're not abandoning that money stream, they are looking to add to it...

edit - Free DLC makes great sense for the player base and longevity of the game. However many developers have proven that all they care about is up front ( first month ) sales. After that they have the money.

Give me DLC free and you can have your micro-transactions. I fear cosmetic changes will in time turn into gameplay changes as well.

brb $2 for armor lock

No thx Microsoft, slowly killing off the Halo franchise

No it wouldn't.

Unfortunately.
You're killing the dream, man.

But the Splatter icon is in H4

Edit: nvm, read your whole post

You didn't read the rest of my post, did you?

They did in the Halo 2 days, and did it with the first Halo 3 DLC. What happened between the Halo 2 DLC and Halo 3 was the hiring of Don Mattrick.

Wait, so can you not buy Halo Reach 2 Vol. 2 anywhere physically? I haven't seen anywhere it's available for US digital sale that'll give me a better lossless option than iTunes which isn't true lossless in the first place.

Do you guys think 911 industrials learned their lesson with the decisions made for Halo 4?
Will armor abilities, ordnance drops and what not be heavily present in the next game?

Like this comment if you agree

Halo4soundtrack.com offers a FLAC download. At least the European sale page.

Every game that isn't CoD should look at having free maps. Splitting communities because of maps never works.

They may only care about upfront sales, but I hope the continuing decline of Halo shows to Microsoft that their current model flops. Not only is their player base declining, but its made worse by new maps that divide the community even further. The franchise is no longer the beast it once was and can't support it. But keep thinking short term, 343, chasing that map pack money, I'm sure your franchise wont be dead soon, lol.

I still don't know how the only thing I've really improved on in Halo over the years is sniping. I used to detest snipers gametypes but towards the end of Reach and now in 4 I find myself doing better and better.

Why would they focus on the people that are going to buy the game regardless of what they change when they can chase that Call of Duty money?

"Halo 4 is the best and fastest-selling Halo game in the series"

Mission accomplished

But clearly there is a vocal group (I have not idea if it truly is a majority or minority) that does not feel that mission was accomplished. I'm sure people would love to add "and fasted-growing" to the above statement.

I'm not asking with an agenda here, saying that "why don't they do this, they should totally do this", I'm asking what drives the decision not to go that route?

The typical argument, if I'm parsing it right is that success derived from a certain formula and if you stuck with that formula you would have more success. The only way that wouldn't be true is if you capped out the audience that was interested in that formula, but is there anything to suggest that?

Paid DLC does not work with multiplayer.
I wish this was a law of gaming. Its such a short-sighted way to do things.

Charge for aesthetic customization, charge for more single player and co-op content. But for the sake of the game and the community and matchmaking, keep map packs free.

Another thing I'd love to see as a standard is for new installments of a series to include ALL previous maps.

Sequels should definitely have previous maps, but only fan favorites. That would include stellar maps like Orbital, Sword Base, and Backwas. The last thing we need are new versions of those.

Just direct port them.

That only works for games like CoD or even Smash Bros where the gameplay isn't inherently changed.

Halo has all these changes to weapons, vehicles, spawns, and movement that make ports play different than they used to.

And that sucks.

A remake should play like the original but with better graphics. I don't remember giant robots on Valhalla or Jetpacks on Beaver Creek, or even kids camo shooting across Blood Gulch.

We should focus on getting the gameplay where it needs to be. The map catalog will then fall into place.

First I thought Lasky's Theme would be it, but it is not.

There are still some tracks missing. Mostly from the second half of SpOps...

Yeah I liked some of the Spartan Ops tunes. Is there a reason they weren't included here along with that awesome BTS song? I enjoy the soundtrack but figured it would include the rest of the tracks featured in Halo 4s Campaign, SpOps and BTS videos. :/
