Alright time to give a bit of my thoughts. Realize that until we find out more, and magazines are outlawed as a form to give people news about video games, the opinions here will probably change. This is just a gut impression based on the news today. I'll just cover the bullet points from the write up and a couple of other miscellaneous comments.
-The screens look visually great. I don't know how 343 is doing this on 360 hardware, but it is seriously impressive.
-The DMR looks ugly as shit lol. Not a big deal though.
-As for custom loadouts and choosing starting weapons, it was said in the last preview and now it looks like it's confirmed. Assuming we stick to "starting weapons" being available to choose from, I actually think this is a good change, and gets rid of the awful AR vs. BR/DMR start fragmentation both from a playlist management perspective and a weapon sandbox balance perspective.
Now for the bullet points of the write up:
Spartan Points- credits/xp. Nothing to really write about here.
Spartan Ops- Sounds cool. Several HaloGAFers, including myself, have wished for an objective and/or mission based coop mode. This looks to be it.
Why Reds Fight Blues- No surprise here, I believe I said this was probably why they fight the day of the vidoc.
Sprint- Not surprised. This seemed to be evident from the previous footage. I would rather not have sprint at all, but if we are going to have it, being a native ability is probably the best way to do it. As long as the base speed and movement options are still good by default, sprint won't be a huge detriment to gameplay.
Forerunner Vision- Sounds terrible. Moving on.
Returning Armor Abilities- Not surpised on Hologram and Jetpack (hopefully functions a bit differently than Reach), but Active Camo as a starting ability is ugh.
Elites Not Returning to Multiplayer- Good for general gamemodes, as it is in Reach. Does this confirm no Invasion-type gamemode?
Firefight- This was a surprise. I'm happy about the new mission coop modes, but I did not expect traditional Firefight to not make a return.
No More Weapon Camping- This is where we get into the seriously WTF are you doing section. This is just a plain and simple terrible design decision. There isn't much else to say.
No More Respawn Delay- Also awful.
Joining In-Progress Games- Not really surprised, but not excited for this feature.
Of course, this is all just based on the limited info we got today and is subject to change with new info/clarifications from 343. Magazines are awful.
I get Battle Creek KOTH on there often. Extremely fun if the teams are somewhat balanced.
I have no idea how you guys get DLC in this game. It's doesn't exist.
Been a while since I've played CoD anything, but I'm fairly certain only a couple of the playlists have actual respawn timers. I know one of them was the bomb planting mode, and it always had the lowest population. I know Domination doesn't have one & and I'm pretty certain CTF didn't either.
People will always flock to the playlists with instant respawns. Even if the game does ship with a classic playlist, it'll have about a 500 player population and probably be axed half way in, lol.
CTF definitely have respawn timers, Domination may not. (King has the same respawn timers as Slayer does in Halo, so that's a parallel.)
