Halo: Reach Beta Thread

It's kind of disgusting when people quit games during this early access part of the Beta. You'd think if you went through the effort to get in you'd have the decency to not behave like a spoiled child.

Yea, lord knows nobody else can possibly have anything more important to be doing than finishing a game of Halo with you.

Anyways, the Focus Rifle is absolutely disgusting. It needs to burn through more ammo or something. Lasting nearly 10 kills is hilarious.

A few games ago i had a covy slayer game. Me and a budy got killed by a grenade launcher but the dude was so close he killed himself, flew back, hit the wall and got stuck on the sink LMAO i love the physics, i love this game!

Reach Covie Slayer is the best thing to ever happen to Halo.


Bungie, please leave Evade exactly the way it is, excluding glitches, in the final. It is soo much fun to quickly do a double roll to go from 15 ft. in front of an enemy to shoving a plasma wrist dagger through their skulls.
 
The netcode is so good that I have beatdowns as my number one weapon, by a small margin. I can play SWAT and enjoy it. The hammer works. The sword works (except for when people block it!). The DMR, Nerfle, and pistol all feel like instruments of destruction.

Does it take more needles to supercombine now? I haven't picked it up much, but that was my impression.
 
It's great that Matchmaking is super fast now, but it needs to make some sort of sound effect when you get to the vote screen; it's so fast that I'm still usually just looking at my K/D for the last match and I'm barely getting in a vote. And I'll forgive it for now since it's a Beta, but along with being super fast it does also seem to make randomly poor choices about team make up. We were playing with a group of 4 of us, and it would be all over the place where we would get totally donged on (every single one of us went negative, their whole team went positive) but it would keep it matched, and then the other way around. Then we'd have actual close matches and it would drop the other team. Makes no sense, but it doesn't seem fair to bitch about it at this point yet.

That said, if the current caliber of players is any indication, I'll be passing on playing this weekend and waiting until it opens up next week; getting donged on constantly by people who are waaaaay better than me. The last several games I played were basically reminding me of why I stopped playing Halo 3 online :/

At this point the Beta is so limited that I still don't know how I feel about the game. It's a mixed bag for me personally, but we still haven't even touched vehicles and large maps. At the end of the day I spend 90% of my time playing BTB with my friends, and I will get NO indication of how that is really going to play at all in this Beta, so I don't even know if I'll feel like I can make a judgment even after the Beta's over. Still really, really bummed there's no BTB in the Beta (and no, Invasion is similar but not the same and with smaller player counts).

If you have something urgent, fine quit. but have the decency to see out the game instead of just quitting and looking for some noobs whenever things don't go your way.
 
Played with this one asshole last night. Was playing stockpile and a guy on our team was hanging around our teams collection area. About halfway through the game I notice only one person on our team has been getting points for collecting flags. SO I go to our collection area and every time one of our team mates would drop the flag in the area the shithead would run up throw the flag out and back in basically giving himself all the collection points. So I tell him he's being a piece of shit and not to do that anymore, let us earn our hard earned points. He tells me to stop having a sandy vagina and team kills me. I promptly kicked him with that but seriously what a dickhead.
 
Flag running on Swrod Base is intense, I love it.

I also noticed that there appears to be SSAO. Very subtle though. And to chime in with everyone else, yes the netcode is much improved. Let's see how it holds up with 16 players plus all of the typical Halo bells and whistles.
 
Does anyone here besides me not enjoy stockpile? Almost everybody online votes for it but I just cant stand the game type.
 
I think once everyone and their mother had EZ codes, seemed like it was kind of pointless to hold back at all. Plus it builds goodwill since the people who really want to play it were probably not happy about thousands of people creating fake accounts and getting it immediately. Good on Bungie for sure though.

Grab sword, focus rifle, or plasma launcher. I love that gametype, it's such a palette cleanser, and Evade is my second favourite AA after Sprint.

Just checked my stats and I have played 80 games of Reach. I'm not sure I played many past a hundred games in the Halo 3 beta. At this rate I'll have surpassed that before the beta proper rolls out.

Not a huge fan of it on Powerhouse, like it a little more on Sword Base (both capture points feel too exposed and spammy on PH). In general, I find it to be an incredibly stressful gametype, and the other teams always seem frighteningly coordinated. And I had to play a lot of it with randoms this afternoon, which didn't endear me to it.

What weapons are what? I don't know what the DMR is and I don't actually believe it says so in the beta. It just has a picture.

That was nice of Bungie - I was too late getting one but I like when developers throw an extra bone to their fans.
 
My list for improvements:
Add to the clip of the pistol
decrease grenade damage
add a Team DMR playlist

FIX THE BLOOM AND AIMING ISSUES. HOLY SHIT I can't even see my crosshair at times because of the bloom.

IMO Bungie really dropped the ball with this game, I don't think I'm going to get it

I also think Swordbase is a terrible map
 
I'm loving what I've played so far, but god do I suck. Reach makes me feel like everyone else is better than me in a way that no previous Halo game has managed to do. :lol Please tell me I'm not the only one that feels this way?
 
Now that I've figured out Swordbase's layout, I'm liking it a lot more. The flag route is far too linear, but it works great for Slayer gametypes.
 
Halo Nade Spam beta is getting on my nerves. I really hope Bungie listens to the community on a few things. Overall its nice, just a few tweaks and it could be perfect.

I like nades, but they need a dmg reduction and i also agree the AR is a POS, i dont even bother...i basically use the pistol till i find a better wpn
 
It is hard to find a weapon at times though. Add some ammo to the pistol clip and its a beast. Should I be aiming a bit above the head to increase my headshot rates? I'm really struggling with this
 
The bathroom area, where the Pro Pipe™ spawns, needs a third way in. Just played a game of Oddball in which the enemy team managed to get the ball into that bathroom and my team couldn't get it out. The guys just camped there.

Great! I'm glad to see that some of the guys that played in the pistol challenge got a code.
