Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Is there gonna be no armor ability playlists?? :(

I just want classic Halo, this armor ability crazy gameplay sucks :(

I'm sick of seeing people filling the skies shooting at me from every possible angle instead of walking in certain paths as usual in halo (I hate not having specific places to look out for enemies on), cloaked racking up kills with hammers, and armor lock dudes shrugging off all kinds of stuff... at least If they had a 1 or 2 minutes cooldown or something it could be great, but with how fast cooldown periods are, it's just a constant spam, and yeah, most of the stuff can be countered, but even if I do, it's just no fun at all for me.

sigh

I would say learn to adapt cause I doubt they are going to have playlist without them.

I suck big time
Maybe my tastes have changed, or maybe I just suck. One of the two. I don't know how anyone can track someone who is jumping, jetpacking, and rolling around all the same time. I feel like I can't hit anything. I need to look at what weapons should be used at what ranges...

Oddball on Powerhouse is fundamentally broken thanks to the shower/bathroom. Every game I've played of it has come down to which team can park the ball in the shower and camp the entrances with rockets and/or the hammer. The game is one giant sprint for who can take the ball and get into the room first; whoever does, wins. It needs to be blocked off for Oddball.

Catching up after work. BWU was great. I like seeing the arena formula, and every choice makes sense. Should have involved calculus though. You guys know we want it. :P
The video on the new partnership was great. I was a little hesitant before, but now I'm confident Bungie will continue to make great games.
And damn, it's
was
a code storm! I bet the 500 people who are going to get into the beta through ODST instead of F+F are really disappointed. :D The more the merrier, though. I think I'll jump on now, maybe somebody can teach me how to use the pro pipe.

I'm pretty damn terrible at Halo, but have been doing reasonably well.
At least I'm happy with my performance.

Man, I really love the Jetpack! It's become second nature.
The animation is pretty wild, the Spartans look menacing as fuck.

Some dude was sprinting right at me and gave me a pretty big scare. Also, the crouch thing when they fall from high distances is badass. Kind of disappointed with the fidelity of the graphics, maybe it's just the two maps that are available right now, but it really doesn't look that much better than Halo3. Oh well, not a big deal to me.

Definitely enjoying it, the active roster is slick. Also really liking the AR. You gotta fire it in bursts. It's a fun time, so far the combat is a lot more interesting than any of the other Halos.

Found a big glitch earlier;

My bro threw a grenade that bounced off of an ally. It didn't kill him and barely hurt him. For the next minute that guy wanders off on his own and after a while falls off of the map and my bro gets the betrayal.

It'd be helpful if you'd save the film the game was from, upload it to your fileshare and PM me the link as well as the gamertags to look at in the film.

Good games to those who played with and against dboythagr8 (zayne, jury, violent, and everybody else) ! :D

I finally became comfortable with the game today (weapons, map layouts, armor..everything) and it showed. And whomever ViolentBreed is I'm sorry you don't like the game:lol :lol

I think I already have an answer from reading impressions in this thread but to be blunt I'll go ahead and ask it:

Does the game feel more like Halo 3 or Halo: CE? Or does it feel like a different breed of Halo altogether?

Speaking of glitches, I was playing on Sword Base, and I think someone got stuck or something, and when the explosion happened, there was a shadow of purple in the water where it would normally be shiny from the explosion.

After a second evening of playing, the list of problems I have with Reach has grown drastically. It really is a bit of a mess, and is absent the core of what made the other Halo games great. It's not beyond saving, but several of the core gameplay systems need overhauling in ways I'm not confident will take place between now and ship; this game plays like something I do not want to play for very long.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

Yup, that's one of them. The golden tripod is utterly broken. I really, really hate the close quarters combat in this game.

Just thought I'd toss this out there early: someone other than myself needs to make the official Reach thread. I'm not digging this game enough to put the work into it.

Rollercoaster much? :/

ugh, I hate the melee. I just don't get it. So you HOLD the right bumper behind the person? Can you be holding it like you can when you pick up a weapon or do you have to start right when you get behind someone?

Head hunters is pretty fun :D
but still fuck these granades :lol
guy perfectly throws it at my feet , boom full health and I'm dead. I try the same thing, it bounces off his leg and explodes on me :lol
that needle br rifle is just terrible

Armor Lock can be pretty useless too.

That's me on the left, Dax on the right. :lol

What is there to NOT get about melee guys? One hit takes down shields, and another takes the guy out. I know in previous Halo games whenever you got in close 8/10 times you'd melee and it'd kill a guy instantly...but cmon.

It's not like that in Reach. It's been mentioned a billion times that it's more about the gun play which is pretty fun. I've been reading complaints about melee all day. Are you all that used to just shooting..charging..press B for instant double beatdowns that you all cannot adjust?

The only time you have to hold the bumper down is if you want an assassination animation. Otherwise it's just a tap of RB.

I think they should...

-fix the melees
-make it easier to tell were your getting shot from
-make all the non power weapons stronger(dmr, pistol, etc)
-slightly nerf the grenades
-reduce the aim bloom on the guns, some of the guns become extremely innacurate way too fast

and to top it off

-bring flag juggling back

Just my two cents

You can't just hold the bumper and move over to the person, you have to initiate the hit like you would any other melee hit. The difference being if you just tap the button behind someone, you do the normal old school assassination, and if you hold the button after hitting it, you'll trigger the fancy assassination animation.

I really don't get Commendations. It seems the only sure fire way to get a lot of cR is to score a shit ton of head shots, as I usually get ~500cR after a game of SWAT, but even if I score the most flags out of anyone in Stockpile, I end up with ~150cR.

When you get behind them.

More people really need to try different control schemes out. with default I kept on mixing up what I wanted to press, then I went Recon control and it fixed all my problems I had with the controls.

I've had another game of stockpile where some dick on our team would take all the flags we put in the holding area out and put them back in himself taking everyones captures points for himself. TWICE NOW. Wanted to team kill the fucker but I'm sure he would have booted me.

A bit. My initial reaction yesterday was sharply negative, as is well documented at this point. I was feeling a touch more positive at the end of the day yesterday, but my bottom line, as I said, was that Reach didn't feel like a Halo game to me. Generally speaking, I don't like FPS; Halo was the only exception (okay, and the original DOOM). HL2 and Bioshock are two others that I bought and played through but didn't really care for.

I often make snap judgments about games; I give most games about ten minutes, and if I don't like them after that I stop playing them. Were the game I played and posted about most of yesterday not called Halo, I'd have stopped playing it. But it is, so I kept at it hoping to learn the new model. I found several things to like about it, and listed them at the end of the day yesterday. Today added to the list of things I didn't enjoy, tipping the balance further. I'm just not having much fun with Reach, despite the many things it does well. It does not feel like Halo to me at all; it's this alien thing that looks like Halo, and mimics many of Halo's attributes, but the foundation that game was build on is just not there. I just can't escape that conclusion.

I never really thought I would use the pistol this much, I never used to in Halo CE
Then you were playing Halo CE wrong. Seriously, the Halo CE Pistol was fucking ridiculous in the right hands.
