Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Hey, look there's a Bomb symbol.

Still hopin' there's Assault in the final game. Objectives seem lacking, but to be fair the maps are hardly exciting. :P

Can't wait 'til Invasion.

I think they already said it would be in the final game, just not in the beta.
 
Seems like i'm always away from the thread when someone's giving out a code :(.
Also, holy shit i've never seen the Halo 3 Servers so deserted. 600 playing BTB :lol
 
Stuck at 1599, decide to have fun for one last game. I get 1629 but does the game count for yesterday, today, AT ALL!?!?!?
It says it was played at 12:00am PDT!!! DUN DUN DUN!!!!!

Yeah, that was me. (I'm not a Bungie guy - just a fan.) We should have tied that game. That last return was lame. :(

I'll do better next time. :lol
 
Really enjoying and getting into the headshot rhythym with the DMR. I now prefer it over the Needle Rifle.

Still not that great with the sniper in swordbase (unless you are jetpacking, then you're easy prey).
 
I played a few levels of Halo 1 (that game is just too fucking good) and then switched back to Reach and felt an uncanny resemblance between the two in regards to aiming, and it felt really good. I switched my sensitivity from 4 (which I use in Halo 3) to 7 (which I use in Halo 1) and I was able to do much better with dmr/pistol.

To some of the people here complaining about Reach, Dr. Induced prescribes a healthy dose of Silent Cartographer and Two Betrayals, but only after a full helping of Truth and Reconciliation. Play Reach after that, and it will feel much more natural.

I still can't quite get over the new shield/health system, and it still feels like there's some kind of malevolent essence embedded in Reach at a fundamental gameplay level that I just can't put my finger on (I'm still gonna blame reticle bloom), but everything else feels pretty solid. Can't wait to play Invasion on Friday and see how it holds up in a BTB-style match :D

p.s. I would be really intrigued to see how Reach plays on a replica of Hang 'em High.

p.p.s. Why does everyone like the microwave, I can't kill shit with that thing :(

They're used to the AR+charge+melee stuff from Halo 3. Doesn't work the same way, bros.

All I'm really hoping for in terms of changes between basic weaponry is grenades being reduced to the amount lying around the map. I don't have a personal problem with their damage really, but it's the amount people don't use them tactically rather than using them carelessly.
 
Played a game today where I returned the flag but it didn't actually return. Will post the film tomorrow. I'm also uber pumped for invasion. Also, the DMR is the shit.
 
Man I heard the Giantbomb guys saying how the unlocking is "antiquated" and "why don't you get new stuff, as you level up, like new armour abilities?"

I'm so thankful the unlocks are only cosmetic. Not every game needs to be Modern Warfare.

Unlocks made leveling up somewhat worthwhile. "I SURE CAN'T WAIT TO GET THE THROWING KNIFE!"

On the other hand, it's bullshit to unlock weapons and perks.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'M NOT HIGH ENOUGH LEVEL TO THROW A KNIFE?"
 
The more i play this, the more i am enjoying how useful each of the different weapons seem to be. I used the Plasma Repeater properly for the first time yesterday, and that gun is actually quite strong! It certainly seems to kill quicker than the AR does at least. It makes a nice change from Halo 3 where there were too many weapons that just weren't effective enough to actually bother picking up.

I also tried out the Theatre for the first time last night, and even though i knew about being able to access the file share in-game, it was really cool to actually do it for the first time. Being able to search for a persons gamertag and download / tag their files in-game is awesome :D

Do we know if there is a specific time that Invasion will be up tomorrow?
 
I wish I had more to spend on. My spartan looks how I like, and I have like 20K just sitting around.
 
Yeah I thought so because I didn't play that great a game.

Final game needs to have a very expensive, high rank required armor range. Somewhere in the ball part of a million cR a piece. Call it the "Master Chief".

Damn they really said that? I thought they would be smart enough to realize that's it's stupid as hell to put new players at a disadvantage like they do in CoD games, by having weaker perks and fewer weapon choices. Sure it gives you things to look forward to a lot, but damn if it doesn't annoy me that I have to play many hours before I can use the gun I actually want to use.

Well they just feel that the cosmetic changes aren't.. interesting enough. The payoff isn't .. noticable(?) enough to them.

I guess that's a matter of oppinion. But to me, Reach (first person shooters in general) is supposed to be a competitive multiplayer game with as much balance as possible. Not some wannabe rpg game where I unlock new abilities as I grind levels.
 
Green vs Purple elites is a bad move.

Would be ine on the existing maps but Purple team will be hard to pick out on the inevitable covie maps, and green team the same on jungle/forest maps.

Red vs blue or even red vs yellow would be much more distinct both from each other and from the majority of maps.

Just want to say, SWAT in Reach is awesome.

Far far less twitchy than H3 and takes proper skill to line up a good single headshot calmly rather than spunking a burst of BR fire the second someone comes into view and fluking the headshot.

Bloody lovely.

There's something about not being division'd until of the season.

Personally I'm still confused about Arena, when divisions are made, how you can move up and down etc.

In one of my arena games last night I'm sure someone switched at the start so they could rush power weapons, I was trying to shoot and everyone was going from smooth sailing to teleporting lag city for about 5 seconds as one of them grabbed the sniper and tried to fly away, I owned him though :p theature however shows no lag at all, so weird.

Man i sucked so hard today. idk what was going on, you know some days you just cant focus?

I have some problems with insomnia and sometimes ill play like at 4 or 5 am coz i cant fall asleep and i do really well. Im calm and go positive a lot but sometimes during the day i just cant play. Do you guys ever feel like you just cant play for shit sometimes?
 
One thing I didn't like about the Halo Reach beta is the in game Music/sound. There is no background music during the match, and It is too quite. You only hear gun shots, announcer saying "double kill", and few sound effect here and there. It feels like it is lacking something. I know that this has been the case with previous Halo games, but now is the time to do the change.

I didn't feel this way playing Modern warfare 1 or 2, but it is too noticeable in Halo games.

Yea, it was them, I checked their "view friends" and they had all of the MLG guys. I was just curious, I'm pretty sure anyone, pro or not, can fall prey to the bloom at any point in time. :lol

I've played Pistola about 12 times since this thing started, so I'm anxious to see what division I get put in considering how many times I've had to play pros. :|
 
I really hate some players. There was this one game that everyone choose to play 1 flag capture. I was the only one who was voting for some slayer, but okay, CTF is good too. And what happens? Everyone runs out of the base, off to kill the enemies. There was only one player who stayed with me to gaurd the flag, the other two went off to kill. They didn't come back and they weren't killed until later, so I know they weren't just trying to get power weapons. This was the same with enemy team too. I literally just walked in and took the flag, there was no one there to guard it. Why was everyone picking CTF if they just wanted to play slayer?

Still not as bad as quitters though. One asshole on my team decided that he needed to quit because he was the only one who wanted to play Team Slayer Pro rather than Team Slayer. Ugh. Bungie, why do you refuse to put bots to replace quitters in if you aren't going to give us servers. The bots wouldn't be much help, but they'd be better than nothing.

Also, I really wish I had the full game right now. Not just because I like Reach, but because then I could play the campaign and actually get decent using the Focus rifle and other power weapons.
 
He just had some really bad teammates, he uses a jetpack though, so...*thumbs down*

Also, when do we get to see what division we're in? Please don't say the end of the month. :(

They would be worse than nothing. They'd be free points for the other team compared to real players. If you think you'd be better off with a bot than -1 real player than you're just wrong. I know bots work well enough in other games but they absolutely wouldn't work in Halo.
