Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Get rid of Proximity Voice in Arena Bungie, I mean, what the hell?
What's wrong with it?

I would hope in the final game they make voice-chat (non-party chat) primary in Arena. You rather your teammates who fall random are there to communicate with you rather than their homies away from the game.

He just had some really bad teammates, he uses a jetpack though, so...*thumbs down*

Also, when do we get to see what division we're in? Please don't say the end of the month. :(
I don't know about y'all but I'm rocking the onyx.

Everyone on my friend's list who has a rank up there it displays the same image. Don't know what that's about.

I still don't know where the focus rifle and rockets are on Powerhouse.

Rockets are in the water at the far back area of the map and the focus rifle is near those crane/walkway things to the left (facing up the hill).

They would be worse than nothing. They'd be free points for the other team compared to real players. If you think you'd be better off with a bot than -1 real player than you're just wrong. I know bots work well enough in other games but they absolutely wouldn't work in Halo.
I think it could be done. Have them follow a player to munch others with an AR. They'd do their part, either as distractions or assists. It'd depend how effective they are, I guess.

And where is the shotgun on powerhouse?

So is there going to be any sort of per-playlist progression? Maybe not rank like Halo 3 but I was thinking about how much I enjoyed trying to rank up in Halo 3. Social felt less worth my time in Halo 3 simply because I wasn't gaining anything but exp. Shallow I guess but it was still fun.

Because when I'm playing Slayer Pro, I don't want the other team to know there is a guy close just because I'm calling out. You shouldn't hear enemies, just like in Halo 3 Ranked.

Suffered through 4 days of arena now where's my division?

Can't wait for Invasion, competitive Reach is the antithesis of fun, just give me some guests to beat up on.

Here's us pooping on another pro.

Im actually a bit annoyed with the Arena system, I have exams at the moment so can maybe play the bare minimum of 3 games a day, people who play non stop all day are garunteed better ratings than me. Yesterday was the first time since the F+F where I had a few hours to play and I have to say I loved it, but going for Onyx is now a huge time commitment more than anything.

What is considered a good arena rating by the way? I was at about 1630 yesterday but apparently there are people hitting 1700+?

Eh, I have no issue with it. Never hurt Halo 2's gameplay. If you have that much of an issue, join a party with your teammates.

So as it turns out, AR is junk, Magnum is King. Burst fire with Magnum at very close range works wonders, very deadly but nothing beats carefully blast headshots. You wouldn't believe the number of people that spray the AR while you just stay back, unloading a clip in their faces.

My Sprint and I eagerly await a sea of crouching, slow-moving targets to pounce on.

Edit: Both Sage and Derek hail from FASA.

Well as much as there are tactics to counter it (which involve running into the enemy and meleeing hopefully before you get 5 shot :lol ). Its just not very fun and I dont see why it was included? Clearly you guys didnt want precision weapons dominating the map and so bloom was added, but why encourage people to also slow down? The essence of Halo is movement.

I would like to say that nades are horrible, they really shouldnt kill a fully shielded Spartan in one go. I have been loving the core gameplay yesterday, but nades are still my one main gripe.

They don't but it's extremely close to death, you can be tagged by a bullet or two first and then the grenade will wipe you out. Or they just throw two in at the same time.

I love proxy chat in arena, amazing fun when you pounce on someone and they shout "what the fuck" as you stab them in the spine :lol

There where multiple times on a CTF game on Powerhouse yesterday where I was full shields (and health), saw a nade fly towards me and died in one go, I remember that game well because my first death was a random 'martyrdom' nade to the face. :lol

Im pretty sure it was just the one nade, I have seen that happen a few other times throughout the day aswell, can anyone confirm?

Finally got to play the beta. I would be underwhelmed if I were at all excited about it. Pretty mediocre in all aspects, but frankly I didn't expect much anyway.

However, I ran into some pretty big glitches in a game I uploaded to my file share. No armor ability and strange symbols above the flag capture point. GT is Jack Scofield. I would link to it but I'm on my phone and lazy as fuck. Bungie can sort through it if they're at all curious about it. I know some employees read the thread.

All in all, good effort, but the execution is woefully lacking.

lol

The DMR and the pistol are both on pretty equal footing. The pistol is really good at close range and can be used at range to some success and then the DMR works inversely, great at range, decent in CQC.

They both have their applicable situations, which is why I really love Reach. No more are the days of the god weapon. Each weapon has a clearly defined role.

There's a gun that shoots grenades on that map. Instant kills.

I point it at someone and shoot. I haven't figured out how to deflect off a surface and kill someone with it yet like I can with other games that have similiar guns.

Both maps in the beta so far are incredible. I disliked them at first but they're actually some of the best Bungie has done.

Im not talking about the pro pipe, im talking about standard frag grenades :lol

Heres a link to that game:
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/GameStats.aspx?gameid=3775183&player=bobs99

Half of my deaths were to nades :lol Only 3 of those where frag nades, but thats a third of my deaths right there. The first one of those was a random nade thrown by a desperate enemy who I killed, he turned around and threw a nade just as I killed him, a second later his nade exploded and killed me despite me being full shields, unfortunatly I cant check if I got shot between the nade exploding but im pretty sure the rest of his team were all camping the flag :lol

Can anyone else confirm that nades can kill a fully shielded Spartan (with full health)?

I can't stand sword base. The map is pretty much designed to encourage blatant camping of the upper-levels.

And it is totally broken in one-flag CTF. The attacking team is always faster at the flag than the defending team and a quick ride on the lift with a properly timed flagdrop puts the flag immediately on the top floor, near the capture point. Have a teammate there and the job is done.

i will disagree. With sprint on i can get to the flag to defend in no time, its like 10 yrds to the right. LOL

Gah, they really need to punish deaths in arena much harder, one death should subtract the same as a kill/assist adds to your rating.

Right now I often see people with 3-4 kills/assists more than me get a higher rating, despite the fact that they have maybe 15 deaths, whereas I might have 7-8 deaths.

Got a great team for Arena yesterday. Moonman, Jury, Chapel and I. Kicked sum ass

Not sure I'll pick Arena once the game is out. Having to do well is to stressful for me. I'm more of a noob play-to-have-fun kind of guy

Yeah, but then you'd have to choose sprint to just stand a chance in fighting them off. If you don't have sprint the door will be spammed with grenades when you get there. There's no time to set-up a defense. When you're in a proper team or against a proper team the match is over in 30 seconds, because of this and the possibility to throw the flag a few feet of the capture point by using the elevator.

I like it, means I don't cramp from holding it down, which would be WAY worse. Secondly, I use down on the left stick to stop, not LB toggle-off. This feels natural anyway and I even play a cartoon skid noise in my head when I do it.
How are you in my head?!

My Xbox's NAT had gone back to Moderate by itself.. I reconfigure/reboot the router, bam! strait from 1400 to 1650 :D
My router is open NAT and has been since I bought the new router but halo 3 and reach all say it's not open NAT, doesn't effect my search times at all though.

I think bungie's detection method is a bit funky and is telling me porkies!

Hey does anyone think that one think that trick of setting your time forward to play special playlist like on Halo 3 would work for Invasion?

What did you do to reconfigure it? Just set up port forwarding? Mine is moderate now and I need to fix it.

I disagree, then people will turtle up even more than they are now.
