Halo: Reach Beta Thread

In the end I don't think it would matter, eventually people would adjust accordingly and get better. I have had moments where I'm shooting a person and then his teammate would be passing by and drag my reticle off the person I was shooting. Granted, these moments are/where few, they've also happened to me in H2 & H3. Just having the option wouldn't hinder anyone.
The auto-aim in Reach is not even in the same league as Halo 2 and 3.

dude you have no idea how important the assist is on a console shooter

turn on H3, go to team slayer and try to betray without using melee. That's what it feels like without auto aim.
Thats how it should be. No auto aim.

That's not auto-aim.

More screen shot spam. Me and three of my buddies during our final game of the night, decide to go into free for all with the intention of being as silly as possible.

By our powers combined!

Auto-aim: Metroid Prime

Aim-assist: Halo

I don't understand how can some people confuse them, the difference is obvious.

Bye ;)

No, wait! You can't just leave! Haha. :P, when terms get tossed around people get confused, like reticle bloom is actually the expanding reticle.

Well, to set the record straight then, Plywood and myself mean the magnetism when we are talking about auto-aim in regards to Halo. We obviously know the game doesn't aim for you...

finding out that bungie is going to fix the ghosting issues has made me very happy! now if i could get confirmation that they'll do something to fix the occasionally hard to see reticule i'll be extra happy!

The game plays well, but I don't know about Slayer Pro. The game-type itself depends on the person having a utility weapon and the DMR isn't it (leaving the majority of firefights to be won but someone with a different weapon). Maybe spawn with a Pistol as well ? Also the lack of radar on an asymmetrical map leaves something to be desired.

That's gonna get fixed for sure, everyone agrees on that one complaint.

Slayer pro has been reduced to whoever can sprint faster to get in double melees or sneak about best with the sword/shotgun/hammer.

There are barely any gun firefights left, stupid.

Damn after a almost 200 games I have STILL not been in a laggy game, love your new net code Bungie!

Lets see how it holds out with Invasion though :D

Whatever it is called PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE remove it from a charging Ghost.

You can't shoot while charging in a Ghost. Why should there be aim-assist to pull you off course?

Also, i have a fantastic idea on how to greatly improve the melee system by employing a simple feature found elsewhere in the new game. Unfortunately, it will have to wait until i get back home on Tuesday.

I'm not a big fan of some of the names for different game types. Slayer classic really shouldn't be used unless all the armor abilities are turned off. Otherwise, it's definitely not classic. I'm not a big fan of sprint, so I'm pretty much hosed when it comes to everyone choosing those gametypes.

Regardless of what you call it, sticky aim is necessary for console shooters. You don't wanna play without it. It would just be a sloppy mess of a game. It would take you all the ammo in your guns to kill someone. That's why I made the joke about mouse and keyboard because there is no sticky aiming on PC games. Ya dig?

I agree that there should always be a small amount of aim-assist present for console shooters, but what about the acceleration and deceleration in sensitivity. I wish there would be less of it so it could be more like Halo CE, Halo 2, Shadowrun, etc... Halo 3 had an absurd amount and made it seem very sluggish, and Reach has a lot less than 3, but still a little more than Halo CE, 2.

Would it be possible to have a custom option to change the settings on that like UT3 had?

How does the whole division thing work? I have several ranked days of arena and am currently 1594. When do we get put into the onyx and steel brackets and whatnot?

Finally dropped down to Silver. Knew that Onyx wouldn't last. I'm so shitty at this Halo vs 2/3. The slowing down of the spartans has completely fucked my strategy up, which always consisted of having to out-maneuver and out-jump my opponent until I had the upper hand. :(

My entire party just got rated. I'm in Onyx, I believe?

Halo 2 was worse than 3...

Halo reach needs more open maps imo. Something to push the distance of fights from melee range to mid/long range.

With the addition of movement based abilities the speed at which players close range, and the general distance between shootouts has shrunk in comparison to previous halo games. Those same abilities also speed up the rate of player encounters.

I think it's just a bit too common to be turning a corner and be forced into a beat-down match, or to face sprinting hammers/shotgun/beatdowns. I also find it pretty common to just finish a player kill and have that same player you just killed jet-pack or sprint to a position to take you out.

It's also frustrating to get stuck onto a piece of scenery while grenades are going off, this has happened to me a couple times on powerhouse, just with the edges of catwalks.

I'd really like to see the geometry in maps scaled back, and open up the playing field a little more, keeps sections closer quarters, but make routes from these sections a bit more visible.

Just wait a few hours.

You'll have your big map.

Yeah...I averaged in the 1600's for my daily ratings, except today's, which is currently 1580. And I'm in Onyx. But my friend, who averaged 1600's as well I believe, is only in Silver? The division ratings don't make sense to me :lol

Awww damn you Bungie!!! I got my Gold Arena status and don't play for 1 day....DOWN TO BRONZE!!! :lol

Now I have to play to regain my shattered ego.

Same thing just happened to me apparently :((((

I saw, and checked, but I won't tell. ;)

Edit: and I didn't play Arena at all yesterday and I'm still in Onyx. :lol

:D

At least we know the ratings are working for lower skilled players.

King of Steel motherfucker.

I really should try and get some arena games in over the weekend to get my rating, I only have one day rating so far - I'm intrigued where I'll place. I just hate jumping in with randoms and I and the rest of Halo GAF will probably never leave Invasion once it's up :lol
