Halo: Reach Beta Thread

I have been enjoying Reach a lot. Everythin seems pretty awesome. I just can't play stockpile :p those waypoints are ather confusing ehe.

Can't wait for a change of scenery.

For headhunter, would an audio cue for someone with 10 skulls be necessary? I swear I never saw any real indicator that there was a player with so many. I was peeved cuz I had a score of 9 :p

I mean they already do this with the scoring in Firefight for ODST, and it feels great there. I've said before that "+10" is the greatest thing CoD4 introduced, and it would be a missed step not to ape it to some degree.

It shows me as being able to level up to a Captain, but when you reach the required amount of cR it says "max level".

I do hope that in the final game, it takes a long, LONG time to hit the max rank. With the daily and weekly Challenges they'll roll out, I'd like those to keep the rank moving forward over a healthy span. Seeing that little bar fill up after a match feels good (man).
 
augh just had the most bullshit game ever of slayer pro FFA, I hate pro mode so much and many times got rushed and beat down before I could even react due to 1 melee = no shields, it's not a mode I enjoy and I fear that everyone in the arena will pick slayer pro, which IMO should BE IT'S OWN PLAYLIST, it's so different that it doesn't deserve to be in and ruin the other fun modes.
 
(hey i'm not that great so bear with me here)

just got my first killing spree in reach and actually ran out of bullets in the dmr. things are looking up. (still a surprise every time I get a headshot though.)

flag juggling with the jetpack is awesome btw. and with the default control scheme you can get into quite a nice rhythm with it.

Sez u. Slayer Pro is fun. I love radar-less games.

I hope the change to flag juggling is only in effect in 1/2flag, I would hate to lose the ability to run two flags at once in stock pile. It's frakkin hard work, no need to axe it.
 
Well it looks like Halo Reach has been modded already, which is not a bad thing, because Bungie should be able to block it now :)

Really? I think it's the opposite; I often can't tell if I've hit the Spartan (Elites are fine) because the shield flare is so dim.
 
I hated 3 Plots until a few moments ago. Used a Jetpack and it became too easy. :lol

I am still not sure about Swordbase. Sometimes I enjoy it, other times I find it too complicated. Just had an earlier Stockpile match and nobody on my team knew where the capture point was. :lol

Bring on the new maps!!

3 Plots is too short, Oddball too long, and Juggernaut and Crazy King just suck.

So far every game of Headhunter has ended with either me lazily chipping away cashing 2-3 heads at a time for an easy win or someone being the last man standing of a clusterfuck and the turn-in location randomly moving towards right on top of him. It's either boring or random. I wish there was a team variant.
 
People have suggested that Pistol, DMR , and possibly NR can be buffed in a way that still allows it to perform as before in close combat but perform better in long range combat. More specifically, either the bloom should be smaller or resets faster when you're a zoomed in versus zoomed out. I am guessing a smaller bloom would be more intuitive to the human eye.

Who's on board with this idea?

Why does Flag Juggling work? Didn't Bungie said it wouldn't be in matchmaking, but it would be an option in custom matches, or something like that?

Ugh, one of my matches last night had the other team camping our goal and them using the Sword and Shotgun. They were smart for doing that, but it pissed me off so much.
 
Juggernaut in Reach as it is now is garbage. The juggernaut has way too much health, shields recharge too fast, oh and they move faster than everybody combined with the hammer's ridiculous lunge.

Not fun at all.

This. I got betrayed by a team-mate before I dropped the flag in the base, just so he could have it. :(

Maybe they could lock it to a player until an enemy removes it.

Uh, Halo 3 has been modded to. None of it makes it on Xbox Live, so why would you care?

So, I suck really bad at this game. :( It makes it so I can hardly enjoy it, unless I'm in with a party of 3 other people that are good at it. I think that if I master the DMR, Magnum, and Needle Rifle, I would probably start enjoying Team games a lot more. Also, Grenades need to be toned down a lot. Too much spamming.. reminds me of Call of Duty 4.

The only thing I can play by myself and actually have fun is Free For All. I just love the insanity of all the gametypes.. especially Headhunter. It's so awesome sprinting to the drop-off point with like 4 skulls while everyone seems to be after you. It's even more awesome when you make it to the area. :D

On a unrelated note, is anyone else getting a film grain effect? It looks a lot like the effect in Mass Effect, and it kinda bugs me. I don't know if it's just my setup though.

Also, is anyone else noticing lost frames in the reload animation?

No radar I can deal with, use to use it all the time in goldeneye and halo 1 but the problem I find is that you either get rushed and beat down or you attempt to kill with the DMR and avoid grenade rain. I love halo for what it is when you spawn with regular gear, plenty of stuff around the maps and in reach never knowing what the enemy has for an AA. But for pro it's just a huge DMR fest and it also doesn't work well on sword base. The plasma launcher doesn't help either.

I personally think stuff like slayer pro and swat should be it's own playlist in the retail game, it changes the game a lot more then just changing the objective. Swat was it's own playtime in halo 2 and 3 so I hope bungie keep with that pattern.

I know this is a beta but i'll vent all my thoughts anyway.

You can only really get the speed boost of juggling by jumping and throwing the flag. You don't get any speed boost by simply dropping it and picking it up like in H3.

It has NOT been modded for online play. If any player were to try to take a mod onto Live, they would be banned near instantly.

Err I meant flag tossing. Right now flag juggling doesn't "work" in that you can't gain speed from it. Although apparantly maybe you can? But you can throw the flag for miles right now, which gets kinda absurd with the lift in sword base. Urk said it was one of the things already changed since beta.

Oh, never used Flag Juggling in Halo 3, also jumped there too, didn't know you ran faster then.

I did noticed one time a film grain effect in theater mode, but that was it.

They are using JTag'ed 360's to mod Reach. They can't go on live with it.

I would suggest Bungie to keep a tentative score onto a player, unless the flag is grabbed by someone from the other team.

^This. It's hard to remember that we're seeing a super small subset of what Reach will have on offer at retail. I have to imagine that there will be a bit more granular approach to the playlists than we're seeing now with well, one playlist.

Although it would ruin the perfectly good tactic of picking a flag up to use as an offensive weapon while defending...

Oh yeah, that's a pretty good idea, but only make the points not count then. I love to pick up a flag to punch somebody in a face. Not for the points. Thought that you meant when you pick up a flag, you have to be the one that has to take it to the stockpile.

Firefight WILL be in Reach, There will be Hornets, you fight Elites, brutes, grunts, jackals, buggers, mules, skirmishes, hunters, the Elites and Grunts have jet packs, Dr Halsey will be in the game, the civilian vehicles are a forklift, a pickup, a cab truck thing, Claymore grenades and Firebomb grenades, Fuel Rod is returning, and Longswords.

It doesn't even have to be that. Just make it "Person who deposits first or since last touched by enemy gets credit for cap."

Although personally I'd rather the impetus be put on flag running. I usually have 2+ minutes of flag running with hardly any caps because I like depositing them at our team's doorstep and getting back at it.

Halo 3 is 2 years older than MW2, and it has never been possible to use modded Halo 3 content on LIVE. Don't ascribe IW's incompetence to Bungie.

Yes, this has been discussed in another thread, i'll try to dig it up. With all due respect, it does essentially come down to IW incompetence.

... Im so split down the middle LMAO. My K/D ratio would be higher but im constantly putting myself in deaths way for the sake of CTF. Ill go postitive for like 5 games in a row only to go -16 in CTF because i was the only person in my team pulling the flag out which negates all my positives LOL.

Not really. The fact there are editions of the game that include Dr. Halsey's notes should be evidence enough she will play key part of the game story.

Night vision goggles on one of those helmets, heh nice effect. I like the look of those huge neck guards too to give us some unique shapes to customise with, if it makes it into final.

Yea it's annoying, hopefully the stats tracker will differentiate between arena, standard, and objective games like it currently does for social/ranked.
